Ive been running a similar aetup for 1.5 years. Adjustable gas block but haven't adjusted since the initial tuning. Faxon 11.5 mid, superlative AGB, standard bcg, BCM versions of the vltor A5 running a5h2 buffer weight, runs a dead air nomad almost full time. I'm almost surprised by how well it works. It's been reliable, accurate, and consistent, and softer shooting than my friends SOLGWs. With red dot and magnifier I've gotten consistent hits at 440yards on reduced c zone steel.

I like it. .078 to .081 seems like a fair place to end up on this type of barrel if it is intended to be suppressed only using traditional baffles like you said. For me, the reason for middy is about attaining more bolt life, longer receiver life, and lower port pop but still being able to use lower back pressure cans, hybrid designs etc. Lower back pressure cans, regardless of the system they are added to, provide less delta between suppressed and unsuppressed usage, meaning they need less drastic measures to make them function effectively. The less adjustment needed, the wider your potential operating envelope becomes. That lands me the camp of wanting to use a system like this but still in conjunction of a lower back pressure can. That may warrant a slightly larger port size than this. Also, I'd be very curious to see how well it would run unsuppressed with a .08-.09 port with a confirmed efficient carrier and no gas key leaks (moreso as a safety net than to be considered 100% reliable). With the testing I've done, fixing gas leaks significantly changes ejection angle and ejection authority. This suggests potentially a sizable increase in reliability from short dwell time systems that are often considered to be finicky and unreliable if mitigation is applied to the leaks. I attest much of the finicky unreliableness of these systems can be attributed to inefficient carriers with leaky gas keys. Most carriers on the market at this point are subpar in some department. I.E. - both of my BCM carriers have leaky gas keys and my friends BCM carrier even had a hugely oversized bolt tail seal. Luckily the rest of his system was sealed well enough that it ran fine but was ejecting more around the 4-4:30 area (16" mid, H1 I think).

@@geraldphillips8999 for .300bo?
@geraldphillips8999
@geraldphillips8999 Ай бұрын
@@FocusTripp for .300bo the carbine length system may be a bit much. Supers would operate just fine but subsonic may need a shorter gas system to build enough back pressure. This is partly why it's so hard to tune a gas gun in .300bo and 8.6bo. The powder used must burn completely before the projectile reaches the gas port. If you shoot subsonic rounds, or supersonic rounds, and there is unburned particles of gunpowder inside the system (can be seen down the bore, inside the chamber, on the bcg, etc...) then the incorrect powder has been chosen. Shooting factory ammo, we have no choice but to accept what is there. This is just my opinion. I have built hundreds of direct impingement guns, and once I started using the correct ammunition (full burn before the gas port) I noticed improvements in reliability and accuracy.

That's just not correct. We wouldn't tune it up so far that it is overgassed. Right now it is ejecting at about 4 oclock with a carbine buffer and spring. If we tune it up to have a 3:30ish ejection with an H2 buffer, then when it gets cold you can swap in a carbine buffer to keep your bolt velocity up where it needs to be.

I believe that, just like how the original meaning of dissipator has morphed from midlength gas with rifle length FSB to simply a rifle length gas with the shortest barrel possible, the correct term for a shorty dissipator should be Kino. BCM and even KAK themselves produce a 12.5 *carbine* gas barrel with midlength FSB for more rail space that they call Kino. Thus, middy gas 11.5/12.5 = Kino

Machinist related question, and just something I see in my own shop infrequently - are the gauge pins you checked the gas port with a plus/minus set? I use almost exclusively minus pins, and have to factor in the slight difference when diagnosing problems or checking diameters. Thanks, if you have the chance to reply.

@@FocusTripp I wonder if that’s why you got the readout you did on the gas port. It’s such a small difference and I imagine is truly a non-issue, but interesting nontheless. Thank you!
