Silver Dollar City is way more than just an amusement park. It is almost a lifestyle, history, hillbillies, family times, good food, and music all rolled into one great experience. It is a slice of time. So the cookbook is more about the area, family times, the Ozarks and old times than just an amusement park. I grew up in Kansas and we traveled to Silver Dollar City and the Ozarks at least once a year. Now I am almost 70 and my favorite place to visit in the whole wide world is still Silver Dollar City and the Ozarks even though I now reside in Texas.

I love the General Electric cookbook. I found The Betty Furness Westinghouse Cookbook (1954) today at my thrift store! I wonder if anyone is as old as I am and remembers Betty Furness??😂😂 She was an actress but was well known in her later life as the infomercial queen.

The little dog "chef" in the Fisher Price cookbook is one of the "Little People" figures that came with the FP play house family sets back in the 70s and 80s. You'd get the house, the furniture, and the little family. I had him when I was a kid! And Marc's/northeast Ohio...I suspect we must be from roughly the same area, lol. I grew up just south of Youngstown. (I live in Virginia now.)

Yes! I love old Fisher Price toys. I remember going with my mom to doctor's appointments, and they had the FP A-Frame house in the waiting room. Definitely made the time pass more quickly! 😄 I grew up in Northwest Ohio, but have lived in/around the Western suburbs of Cleveland for most of the last 20 years. Marc's is a staple in my life. 😂

I'm in Dayton, Ohio. Yep, we did have a Marc's (now closed, sadly, found some cute things there), was a Kroger's before, and now, nothing. We also have an Ollie's, lol. Love those kinds of places. You made me think of the different state grange cookbooks (my dad bought me one years ago) and church cookbooks (made to raise money, I guess, lol). I love those things. The older ones crack me up, the kind that say "bake until done."

Aw sorry your Marc's closed! It's such an interesting store. I can't remember if I told the story in this video, but my husband (who does NOT like going to Marc's and has probably been there less than 5 times in his life) SAW THE ACTUAL MARC at our local store once. I was SO jealous. 😂

Another fun haul to watch. I enjoy your channel so much. I love collecting cookbooks too. I love the graphics and photos in cookbooks too. I live in Missouri, and I’m guessing the Silver Dollar City and Ma’s Cookin’ were picked up on the same trip because Branson is just southwest of Ozark (Lake of the Ozarks is another popular destination in the summer especially). At least I can imagine them on the same twirling rack in a gift shop!

That was a fun and varied haul. I went all nostalgic though, when you showed your new girl scout handbook. That was probably the very printing mine was. I remember I loved that book as it was so full of things to do. I will have to go out to the world wide webs and see if I can find one.

Oh gosh, that is a hard question! For me it's kind of more about finding things I love 'in the wild'. There are a couple of cookbooks I've donated over the years in an attempt to declutter and I regret letting them go. I could proooobably go to ebay and get other copies (and there's nothing wrong with that!), but would much prefer the surprise and delight of finding them on a trip to the thrift or antique store.
