A wildlife video shot with the Canon R5.
We rarely see Short-eared Owls in Ottawa Ontario, and when we do it's only very briefly. A couple of days ago someone spotted and SEO at 7:30 am sleeping in some brush in a roadside culvert in rural south Ottawa. The word spread like wildfire among birders and photographers. By the time I got there at 2:00 pm there were 15 people in attendance and by the time I had to leave at 3:30 pm there were 45+! The Shortie never moved all day except to turn its head and blink occasinally.
Nevertheless, despite the lack of any real action and the constant chatter of people making an ambient ambient audio track impossible, I really wanted a video record of this rare and beautiful visitor to our area. So I took some footage and collected all my head rotation and blinking "action" shots and interspersed them some B-roll scenery clips, added some music, and voila!
At 4:00 pm, 30 minutes after I had to go home, the Owl woke up, became active and put on a fabulous flying show for those who were able to stay. It was -20 C.
Cheers,
Rudy
