THE MAGIC OF OWLS
What is it about Owls that so captivates our hearts and our imaginations whenever we see them? Humans have had a long history of being enthralled by the magic of Owls as we read about in ancient Greek manuscripts and still do today in Harry Potter books.
For me personally it's a few things that do it. Firstly, it's those big, beautiful, piercing eyes that seem to look right through you. Next, I love the shape of their heads and bodies and the fabulous colours of their camouflaged feathers. Next, I love the way they fly - they surely are pure grace and poetry in motion. And finally, I love their calm and confident demeanor. If a human happens upon their perch they don't freak out and take off like many other birds. If you're not too loud or threatening, most Owls will just calmly blink and turn their heads and go back to sleep.
In this video you see Barred Owls, Great Horned Owls Eastern Screech Owls, Snowy Owls, a Great Gray Owl and a Short-eared Owl all seen in Ottawa Ontario.
