You can use any AAA battery on it

I was about to buy the RS170 and now Ive saw this... Its listed on amazon uk but its £60 more expensive as the RS170 seems to be on sale, I'm wondering what exactly is the difference between the new and old cans? both have a surround feature and both as far as I am aware operate on the 2.4ghz channel. I don't mind paying more for a newer version but I'd like to know what sort of upgrade it is.

Hey man! I've just bought RS170 2 weeks ago and now saw this. But GBP 60 difference is a good amount of moneis.

Do they use a completely different transmission technology compared to the RS 160, 170, and 180?

Yes. 1x5 series are using wireless technology developed by Sennhieser, while 1x0 series are using KLEER technology. Also, new line is limited to just 2 pairs of heaphones that can be connected simultanously to the transmitter.
