Surviving a SERIOUS WINTER TEMPEST - Sailing to an abandoned ghost town Part 2 - Report 11

In the last episode we arrive at Grand Bruit with the intention to try and finish out winter in this remote abandoned outport / ghost town. But Mother Nature unleashed her fury while we were there - more so than we had experienced anywhere else during our winter sailing trip around Newfoundland. This storm was powerful and as serious as storms get. We found ourselves being slammed into the dock by near hurricane force winds in bitter arctic cold temperatures. It was a fight for Hakluyt's survival at times - and coincided while both of us came down with wicked head colds. With energy levels fading during the 36 hour tempest we did our best to keep everyone and Hakluyt safe. After the storm, the crew (including the dogs!) work on our daily chores and exploring this incredible wild remote outport and surrounding wilderness.

Thanks for the video, the little sign on the Crammalot Inn was for a memorial for Joe Billard who was a long time resident and fisherman from Grand Bruit who sadly left us too early.

Breathtaking, as always - just beautiful. Judith - nice save of Fin! I'm curious to know if during that 24 hours of relentless storm you ever got really scared? That must be crazy for your nervous system!

Really enjoying your videos. Drone work is great! Cramalot Inn was the creation of Joe Billard and the dates you are referencing may be his birth and death. He was a fine man who was the last to leave Grand Bruit. He spent his time between Grand Bruit and Burgeo. Stay safe

I do enjoy this look at the high latitudes for sure...but the many layers needed just to watch all this ice and snow is a bit daunting for this denizen of the south!

You are tuff' ,sailing in winter in Newfoundland. I plan on sailing there next summer...not winter 😅. Did you visit Fogo? That is where I live. Safe travels .

Oh my….I love keeping up with you…but it’s so very scary to watch at times 🥴🌬️💨🥶. Thank God for the drone and your videos….it’s so interesting to follow your journey and to know where you are. I went to highschool with a guy from their. We used to call him John Bruitter because he was from grand bruit! :p I think he was actually a Billiard though now that I think about it... When he lived their he said there were only a couple kids left in the town. I think they town resettled shortly after I finished highschool (2004) Not sure when they left but I don't think it was long after that.

Do you think it would have been possible to drop an anchor off your beam to pull you off of the dock a bit? Great content! Nuts place to be in the middle of the winter... we're planning to cruise there this summer!
