This'll be the last lore video for couple weeks I think now while I knuckle down and get the Third Succession War scripts finished. I will probably release a couple chapters of an HBS BattleTech playthrough before then. There'll be one more chapter in this mini-series after I finish that game. I bumped the timeline forwards to 3028 for this one. Felt appropriate since we've been going for about three years now.

You know, I get a lot of flak for liking the "dead and forgotten background faction" of the Rim Worlds Republic, yet their ghost is everywhere and it's something that makes my day whenever we hear of the..."descendents" of the RWR. I just wish the Finmarks lasted longer.

@@MDFification1 Yes. However I feel like they're a century late to the setting. Though if they popped up earlier, they'd definitely have been wiped out by the clans for reasons.

I love and appreciate getting to learn the detailed backstory of these parts of the setting I've never really read into before (despite being into it since the beginning). I feel very well briefed on the history of the Inner Sphere at this point.

Great video, thanks for that. It's a funny thing with some players; they've played the game for decades, know the Houses, the various mercs, Comstar and the Clans and can talk and debate them for hours (slowing down a perfectly good battle) and yet apart from the three larger periphery states and a couple of pirate groups they've fought, their eyes sort of glaze over when Niops, the Lothian League, St. Andrews etc. are mentioned. Needless to say I've told my group to watch your previous video (and will this one too). Oh, was Santander V and jolly ol' Helmar Valasek overlooked or do you consider his band not part of the Rift bandit kingdoms?

I was gonna include him (I said half-a-dozen at the start of the video but then added in the Ptolemeans in his place) but technically he's in the Draconis Drift and not the Rift. He'll probs get a mention in the 3rdSW towards the end.

Some of the worse periphery pirates of the period between 3025 and 3075 were actually from the "civilized" Inner Sphere. Red Jack Ryan was former LCAF, Helmar Valasek was AFFS, Vance Rezak was DCMS. Of the 5 worst offenders only Lady Death Paula Trevaline and Hopper Morrison were born in the periphery. Johann "Ceasar" O'Reilly was also a native of the periphery, but he was more a concurring warlord who supplemented his recourses and income with privateering.

As far as I know, it's sole appearance was in the 25th anniversary book. Very minor thing to include but I wanted to highlight that some of those systems that have been greyed out are still supporting sizable populations.

Bandit or government... In BT it's all a matter of perspective, the ability to gain "respectability" through force of arms, and whether the bother of deployment of a single nuke can easily & quickly resolve any difference of opinions.

You're not wrong. The Successor States are nothing if not hypocritical. They'll decry bandit attacks striking at their periphery facing worlds, then turn around and launch another invasion against their neighbour.

I mentioned it in the 2ndSW briefly. Grimm was described as someone who was once reliable but has slipped into a kind of paranoia. He was tasked with defending a crucial lynchpin near Terra but snapped under the pressure. He claimed a lack of support from the LCAF, and several other sources have given that at face value, but in the context of his known personality, who knows what the actual situation was.

Well the scripts were already written for this one, so I sat down to record after yesterday's went out and then did 50/50 last night and this morning to have it rendering over lunch. When you don't have many complications like map work to slow things down you can really crank this shit out after you've been doing it for a while, lol

Still alive. I got really burned out and was struggling a lot to write the next project. Then in early June I was really unwell and that lasted for over a week. But I'm finally getting back into it now. I'm fact, there should be a new video going live within the next 24 hours.

@@getfreur2458I meant with Finmark and Oberon. They destroyed any semblance of functional government that could have kept the pirates in check. They wanted an unstable region but didn't consider the long term consequences of creating a lawless region right in their own back yard.
