Hi Max, in the previous episode , you said that it was the middle of winter there, and the temperature had dropped to 20°c, and your wearing your woolly hat and a thick jacket. Well in England were in the middle of summer here, and we having a bit of a heat wave at the moment, and it's a barmy 23°c here!!! All the best from the UK, keep up the good work, I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos.

Hi Max! At about 29:30 : even on the Multifix toolpost you can loosen the nut on top and turn the toolpost until you get the desired angle. The beauty of the Multifix system is that it gives you perfect repeatability.
@swanvalleymachineshop
@swanvalleymachineshop 27 күн бұрын
You need a 50mm socket to undo that nut ! I do not like the holders with only 3 tool holding bolts . It makes it too restrictive in the tooling that i can use . So it's going to get changed to a Dickson style . Cheers 👍

G'day Max. Excellent videos on Spray Welding, & machining the axle. Good to see the use of a Round Nose Profile on your lathe tool, giving a finer finish to the job. Glad you showed the complexity of all the surfaces that work together from the baring surface right through to the seal finished face. Well done.

Hi Max, there should be a locating pin underneath the body of your Multifix tool holder for clocking in different multiples of degrees (If it's like mine). I just removed that pin and now I use the main nut for adjusting the angle I want and it hasn't moved on me even with deep cuts at high feed rates. I hope that helps and yep, keep up the good work!

Hi Max, I always work in thou's for close tolerance work, means more to me than working in metric, showing my age. Multifix toolpost verses piston, wedge, Dickson or the turret and the old style lantern toolpost. They all have their pros and cons. For ridgity you can't beat the 4 way turret toolpost which I used on my DSG.

It's hard enough alone Max...Are you're you want help?🤣🤣 Great stuff again Max. Micro 100 for the win. That is what I use most of the time in the portable boring rig. I have no idea where the myth came from you cannot take small cuts with carbide, probably inserted tooling as you need tool pressure for a good finish. As you obviously know a good sharp brazed carbide will take a small cut and leave a great finish despite what 99% of people say Just like a HSS tool It has to be sharp, ground and honed. But with a diamond wheel. Right off a green wheel is a recipe for disaster. What a great repair Max I enjoyed it very much. Are still Cat Fitting Max? Cheers

I really like my multifix. But I don’t have the body pinned down to the top slide either. So I can just loosen up the tool post stud and swing it in whatever angle I want. But… I’m not on a real big machine either, I’m just on a little 1330. So if it’s seeing enough load to move that tool post then I’ve made some poor decisions or something went horribly wrong ! lol 😂

I don't like the multifix either. The only one who does like it is abom so of course all of his minions have to follow suit and claim its the best ever. LOL. Hello Max. The repair turned out nicely. It must be a good feeling to be finally using the lathe after putting all the effort into fixing it up. I know I felt that way when I started using my HBM after spending two years getting it in order. I wanted to ask you how the tailstock way lube set up is working? I saw the oil cups at the back of the tailstock in this video and it reminded me about that. I've been thinking of doing that to mine but I was waiting to hear how yours worked out. Thanks, Ken

I agree with you on the multi fix tool posts. I got one for my new lathe, but it is difficult to get fine adjustments. I always have to loosen the cross slide(two nuts) to adjust. Also, they seem more difficult to install when there are a lot of chips. Aloris types I think are easier in that respect. Thanks for the video from the northern hemisphere where it’s hot now.

I admit to being confused watching you true up the part in the Chuck. I sorta was expecting loosen the highs & tighten the lows, but unless your camera is filming in mirror image, you appear to be turning the Chuck key the opposite way to my Chuck key for tightening? 🤷‍♂️ Is it a left handed upside down 4 jaw Chuck or something? 😂 I admit I’m easily confused at the best of times. 😉👍
