Awesome video! I became a ramp agent just 3 weeks ago after being bored out my brains doing sales/service jobs for the past 10 years at a desk. So far it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. Working outdoors with cool people in all weathers (like -15c at Oslo this week) is incredible, it’s honest work and rewarding. My friends make tons of money but are miserable…I get to spend all day around aircraft, I know which one id rather do…cheers!

As a pilot it's always super awesome to see the ballet of hundreds of people it takes to get an aircraft from point A to point B. ATC, Rampers, Gate agents, rescue workers, mechanics, dispatchers, pilots, flight attendants, and the list goes on at astra. Everyone is critical.

In 1997 I got my first aviation job as a ramp dispatcher job I communicated to the crews flight information and radioed the pilots the gate assignment. I managed to preform all but the pushback driver. I loaded and unloaded bags..lost my badge and then found it while putting bags on the carousel at baggage claim. Preformed as a brakeman on aircraft relocation. Marshalling flights. Running the loader, openning the nose on a 747.. cool job. Now doing office work as a cargo Agent processing manifest and customs reporting. Thanks for the sharing the what we call below the wing flight operations. Happy subscriber 😀.

Small cargo compartment lots of challenges. Not to mention there are short turn arounds , cargo +bags and a possibility of being a man short in your crew, faulty equipment, heavy bags , weather are all challenges a ramp agent faces but overcomes to not catch a delay and get the flight out on time. Teamwork is a must working all together with the pilots, bridge and ticketing agents.

I work for United Ground Express(Subsidy of United Airlines). I can tell you this is physically demanding and can get you into shape if you let it. Many of the GSE (Ground Service Equipment) is electric while only 4 thing we have are gas. Portable GPU (Ground power unit) Portable PC (Preconditioned air) and Forced APU start (This is as loud as a normal APU on a plane). I love it, and it's a great job for people looking to get into the aviation industry. Airlines will advance people that work for them, over hire outside. The tugs tbh are fun to drive, but are very sensitive and will tip of your not being aware of your speed. Potable water we don't always fill, we may get 1 or 2 planes a week that want more potable water or need to be flushed with new blue water (Blue juice). Blue water is what helps break down the bacteria and waste that goes in the brown tank. Where I'm at, we hate the CRJ200s and the ERJ-145s. They break down so often and cause us problems. They result in canceled flights and upset passengers a long with a lot of rerouting or transfers. Many pilots have absolutely no clue what being on the ground is like, which causes miscommunication and other problems including inpatient pilots. This then gets put on us which causes us more problems. Do not work and expect to get paid a lot, I get 13.50/hr and work about 30 hours a week. Schedules are bid based and you have 6 months for probation. Depending on the airline, you will be flown out for classes and OJT (On the Job Training) which could be a month or 2. I'm doing base training (Training at my airport). If your up to joining the industry join it, but do not expect it to be easy, especially when a passenger yells at you. Some airlines cross utilizes their employees, so they are trained on ground Ticket counter and Gate. If you hate physical labor ground crew is not your area. As of typing this I was in the bag room sorting bags.

It takes a village. From people who work in cargo getting your mail ready for a specific flight. It goes to maintenance to make sure equipment works safely. It means the gate agents who are working to help you possibly get onto another flight if there are problems with your current one. It means the ground crew getting the plane ready to go. It means the flight attendants making sure the customers needs are met and knowing how to take care of situations when they arrive. It means the pilots to make sure you get to your destination safely. So many moving parts. We (as an airline employee) are grateful for our passengers as if it wasn't for you, we wouldn't have a job.

I was a ramp agent for United Airlines…definitely not an easy job, but rewarding as heck. Who doesn’t like getting paid to work out?

Everytime I fly American Eagle (true Chicagoan never gonna call it Envoy!) in at O'Hare (or the Midwest for that matter) I'm like I hope Swayne is my FO cuz I wanna meet him!

wow cool, as someone who works at a FBO I find all the planes, vehicles, and people moving around really amazing and I look at it like a choreograph that has one mission. get that plane back in the sky fast

This was a very good segment. It is nice to see the other areas of an airline's operations.

Swayne a great job showing a different job for the aircraft. I respect them and feel so bad for crew in rain and snow. Very interesting aspect.. keep up your videos
