I use a lot of running back cradles like Dior Johnson in pickup when doing this. It works great because they're obsessive with poking at the ball. It takes them completely out of position to contest the layup because they become stationary at that point.

Can you do a video on the spin seal? I've seen variations of it from kyrie, lebron, and beal
@rexlam3681
@rexlam3681 3 жыл бұрын
Kyrie usually does it off the pick and roll and does it occasionally when he retreats with the ball. Lebron does it mainly out of the postup as a counter to his turn around fade. Beal does it off the dribble and spins out of it

Hey coach, when looking at tutorials for swing steps, i see lots of coaching teaching it off one foot, but also lots of coaches teaching it off a two foot jump stop. I was wondering if either is "better" and what situation would you use each one in?
@CoachFrikki
@CoachFrikki Жыл бұрын
Hey man. A swing step into a 2 foot jump doesn't make much sense. You don't cover nearly as much ground if you jump off 2 feet. Haven't seen any coach teach that. Are you talking about a pro hop?
@olivergriffiths8094
@olivergriffiths8094 Жыл бұрын
@@CoachFrikki Sorry i need to be more clear, i mean that on their last dribble, they do a little hop and then go into the swing step. Like what r2 shows in this vid -> kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aN2WbL18x7DWmo0.html
@CoachFrikki
@CoachFrikki Жыл бұрын
@@olivergriffiths8094 I understand you now. That's just a personal preference. Like the player at 4:43 (coached him for 4 years) is stronger off 2 feet than 1 so he does a small hesitation hop into his swing step. But usually you swing step after running straight at them and that hop is gonna slow you down. Interesting thought, hadn't thought about this before.
@kelvinrojas215

Hey coach, nice video but I have a question. If a player while gathering on the swing step jumps up high rather than stepping is that considered a travel or a valid move? Not sure if thats clear. Basically, if I gather and jump off my right foot then land with 2 powerful steps is that a travel?
@CoachFrikki
@CoachFrikki Жыл бұрын
Good question! 2 steps (after gathering on 1) are never a travel. Take them as high/long/slow/powerful as you want.

This is great, but how would a player who is below 5'10 use this? Should he do a low swing or can he still use both?
@CoachFrikki
@CoachFrikki 7 ай бұрын
I'm about 5'10. Usually use a low gather. But a swim gather (overhead with 1 hand) can also be very effective when they don't expect it.

Anybody could use this move. Jalen Brunson for example uses this a lot even though he's undersized for NBA standards.
@xStokelyx

Looks nice but it's pretty hard to do without travelling (outside of NBA) since most people pick up their dribble (gather) while they have a foot touching the floor (pivot foot) and then take 2 steps. Never felt comfortable practicing that move.
