The Switch's button layout isn't "Different" it's the original. The XB buttons are the different ones! All joking aside, the battery life for this thing is insane! Looking forward to making this my main PC controller

technically true, but nintendo dropped the ball after the wii generation, when xbox and playstation exploded. They lost the right to call their orientation the correct way

Retroarch remains in Desktop mode when you launch it. This means some inputs are unavailable when altering the controls on Steam. For example, you can't make the controller sticks analog. If you want to move your character, you HAVE to have it set to "Directional Pad." That's not the worst thing in the world, but if you're playing a First person Shooter and constantly have to aim, or you're playing a stealth game, and have to remain quiet by walking a lot, this issue will screw you over. It's very specific, I know, but what I also want to know is how to make Retroarch fall into the "Big Picture Configuration" instead of remaining in desktop.

does anyone know if there is a way to have steam games refer to the correct buttons on a switch pro controller without having to change their orientation. Right now the game says click A to jump, that is B on switch controller, this is the bottom button and i like jump being the bottom button, is there a steam setting to make all steam games refer to the bottom button correctly as B while it remaining functionally the jump button for example, or is this impossible. Because ive been playing for years just having to do the mental gymnastics and it sucks.

Short answer, no. Those icons/glyphs aren't created by Steam, they're done by the developers and (usually) hardcoded into the game. A LOT of PC games **ONLY** support Xbox controllers so those are the only icons that a developer will program into the game. As a PC gamer you might know that games files can be edited and you're right, some games have mods to change the buttons to PS symbols or the Nintendo layout. But a vast majority of PC games aren't moddable -- in that they either don't have a modding scene to make the tools or the engine/files are too esoteric to bother dealing with. So I'll say a generous 1% of the time you'd be able swap the glyphs out with ones that match your controller but 99% of the time you're gonna be doing the mental gymnastics. And, at least for me, it just makes more sense to learn the gymnast skills for 100% of situations.

Greetings! There's one more way to use Nintendo Switch Pro controller for any PC game (wired or wireless), and it's reWASD: www.rewasd.com/blog/post/how-to-use-nintendo-switch-pro-controller-on-pc This post describes the most useful features available with this software. You can also change the layout completely and use the gamepad both for Steam and non-Steam games, also on desktop, or for browsing.

For what it's worth, there are plenty of ways to use any of the controllers that I talk about on this channel outside of Steam Input. But I'm gonna stand by the opinion that Steam Input is the best method, currently, for NSPC users if only because Steam is such a prolific software that it can most be assumed to already be installed for most users. However, it appears that you took some inspiration from Steam Input (or possible something like Pinnacle/XPadder) and I will say that reWASD is quite the complete package. In fact, it has Triple Press activators which is pretty cool. I'll be sure to push people towards this should Steam Input give them problems, but I'll still promote Steam Input first. :)

I actually looked at this more closely this weekend and I gotta say, it is very well done. Is there any chance that you'll be expanding it to other devices?
@reWASD5 жыл бұрын
@@criticalinput Sure, we're working on it! For now, we officially support all official Xbox controllers; PlayStation 3, 4 controllers; Nintendo Switch Pro, and up to more. Also some third-party gamepads are recognized by reWASD (like, the replicas of Xbox controllers)

Any chance that the Steam Controller is on the list of future device? Does reWASD also support the touchbar and gyro input sources on the Dualshock 4? Also, I'm probably gonna download reWASD next weekend and check it out. Is there an official forum or community somewhere that I can have these basic questions answered more easily?
@reWASD5 жыл бұрын
@@criticalinput Concerning the gyro - not yet, but we're thinking about it. reWASD permits to add 5 mappings to touchpad zones and click now :) About the Steam controller - what would you map to it, or where would you use it? With non-Steam applications, or something else? Sure, we have a Discord channel discord.gg/NgprHG6 ; also you can text us on Facebook facebook.com/reWASDapp/ ; and we have a community, but that's more like a place to upload your configurations www.rewasd.com/community
