It's a bass very similar to what's in the video, except I run it through a vocoder. In the vocoder, I modulate it with a clip of Lady Gaga singing the word "paparazzi". You can hear a really good example of the vocoder effect on the Kill The Noise track "Talk To Me."

It's very similar to the bass shown in this video. When you edit the harmonics of the wave, I added the harmonics a little lower than the video showed. Then I modulated operator 2 by operators 3, 4, and 5, just by small amounts. And that's all! Actually simpler to do than the bass in the tutorial.

So much easier than making an automation clip, but you won't get the wub sound unless the smooth button is actuated under the XY control panel, you'll get sawtooth modulation peaks, which are great for the initial drop in a bass line. Excellent video! I loved it. Sytrus is my favorite FM VST of all time. FM8 doesn't even have a waveshaper, just presets. You have to make your own and import other waveshapes, which is tedious. BTW, the paprazzi track is grade A! Thank you for sharing!

Hi, glad you like it. It's pretty simple. Just use Vocodex to combine a bass like the one the video shows how to make along with a vocal sample. Here I modulated my Sytrus bass with a clip of Lady Gaga singing the words. Vocodex or another vocoder will allow you to get some sweet vocal/vowel sounds!

Make sure that the notes that make the higher x modulation are slide notes. You can double check by clicking on the note to bring up the note properties box. Ensure the "slide" box is checked. If you have any difficulties feel free to ask or even make a video of it and I will try to help!

Make sure you're sliding from a note with low x-modulation to a note with high x-modulation. Also make sure you set the mod x page in Sytrus so the modulation is controlled by the x control. If this doesn't work for you, try controlling the mod x control on the main Sytrus panel with an automation clip, which gives you the same sound.

If you've set up your bass patch properly, you can go to the main tab in Sytrus, find that little Mod X dial, right click on it, and choose "create automation clip." Now edit your automation clip to get the growling sounds.

OK make sure that you are using slides to do this. The vowel effect comes from starting on one note, then sliding to the new x modulation on the slide note. If you check in the video, you will notice that there is one long regular note, and the little ones are all slides. You can check your own notes by double clicking on them, then seeing if the "slide" button is turned on in the note properties.

Make sure that you're using slide notes. You can double click a note to bring up properties, to ensure that the slide box is enabled.

What version of FL do you have? (10? 9?) Also what edition have you bought? (Fruity edition, signature edition, etc.) It could be that this is only available in a newer version or more complete edition. But in that case, you can still get the WUB sound. Right click on the Mod X knob on the Sytrus main tab, and create automation clip. You can move the knob around using that.

Are you following all the instructions exactly, including setting the Mod X tab in OP1 in Sytrus? And making sure you edit each note's mod x value?

Not sure what's going on. The wub comes from the motion between low x modulation and high x modulation, so make sure you slide from low to high. Also make sure you remembered to set the Mod X page in Sytrus so that the modulation is controlled by X. If all else fails, you can control the Mod X control on Sytrus's front panel using automation clips instead of the note editor.

I make my subs in 3xOsc. Turn the volume off on osc 2 and 3, and make sure osc 1 is set to a sine wave. When you put in the notes in the piano roll, make sure that your notes are hitting at frequencies below 100 hz. I'm planning a tutorial soon on how to mix drums, and part of it should include mixing your sub bass with the kick drum, which you may find helpful.

Yeah the reality is that Massive is simply a subtractive synth, with only limited frequency modulating capabilities. For absolute power and control over your sounds, you need full FM or additive capabilities.

Make sure your notes are slides (other than the first one). You can double click each note to check if it's a slide in the properties. Also make sure you are sliding from a low mod-x value to a high mod-x in order to get a good wub sound.

It probably means that the paintbrush/pencil tool is pasting notes that have different properties. Try painting a note, then double clicking on it and messing with the settings there.

Thanks for your answer. Actually, I have clicked on "note modulation x" but when I add some notes like you did on the video, the sound is just playing these notes without wah wah effect. I modified the curve in modulation x, and I am pretty sure I didn't forget anything from your tutorial...

Do you have a sub bass? Try layering a deep pure sine wave underneath your bass and synths for that massive sub sound.

Fantastic lesson.

The ones all the way down will sound silent if you have poor speakers since they're pure low frequencies. What gives you the wobble is sliding from all the way down to all the way up. Another possibility is that you left the bottom section set to "velocity" instead of changing to note modulation x. Check out 2:37 in the video.

Yes, its pretty much theory yes. I watched both videos about your paparazzi sounds, and i tried it and both sounds pretty good and i made some nice melodies with them. But the problem is i cant get these sounds to sound good together. When i put it together it just sounds crap. How do u do to kinda ''melt'' the sounds together?
