Taco Bell's new restaurants are unrecognizable
Taco Bell has redesigned some of its restaurants.
The company rolled out four new store models - "modern explorer," "California sol," "heritage" and "urban edge" - and they look nothing like the fast-food chain we know.
The four new restaurants, which recently debuted in Orange County, California, are all pretty similar to one another. The chain plans to roll out the new designs nationally.
They feature open kitchens and lounge seating areas with rustic wood and metal finishes, as well as fancy lighting fixtures and chandeliers that look like they came from Restoration Hardware.
Here's how the company describes each model:
Heritage : "Inspired by its culinary roots in Mexican-inspired food with a twist, this style is a modern interpretation of Taco Bell’s original Mission Revival style characterized by warm white walls with classic materials in the tile and heavy timbers."
Modern explorer : "This rustic modern style is a refined version of the brand’s Cantina Explorer restaurants and can easily fit into a suburban or rural environment. Inspired by the farms that make our food, this style reinforces Taco Bell’s commitment to the best ingredients, authenticity and transparency of materials and dining preparation."
California sol : "Inspired by Taco Bell’s California roots and the California lifestyle, this design blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor. It’s a celebration of dining al fresco and embraces a laid-back beachy feel both inside and out."

"Taco Bell is doing well. We had a great quarter ... [and] five years of really good same store sales growth," Creed said on "Squawk Box," a day after a series of investor day announcements, including a goal of being 98 percent franchised by the end of 2018.
Taco Bell has no plans to change to be more like Chipotle, Creed said. "They're very different brands," he explained, adding Taco Bell has not necessarily benefited from the food safety scares at Chipotle.
At Yum, which also owns KFC, Pizza Hut needs a major overhaul. "Of the three brands, it's the one we've got the most to do," Creed said.
"We've got to make [Pizza Hut] more relevant and distinctive," he added, stressing the importance of putting in place tech improvements to make it easier to get pizzas to consumers. "People want easier and better."
"The proof is, we turned around our KFC U.S. business, which two years ago everyone had written off," Creed said. "We can do the same for Pizza Hut. I think it's a real growth story."
Shares of Yum Brands were up about 20 percent so far this year, as of Tuesday's close.

Still no arrests in murder of 49-year-old man at Lorain Taco Bell
LORAIN, OH (WOIO) -
There are still no arrests in the murder of Robert Gnizak, the 49-year-old man who was shot to death in an attempted robbery at a Taco Bell drive-thru on Aug. 14.
Gnizak was killed around 11:03 p.m. at the Taco Bell at 3671 Oberlin Ave. According to his obituary, he was a veteran who served in the U.S. Navy from 1986 to 1990. He is survived by his wife, his brother and several nieces and nephews.
The suspect is a black male, thin to medium build and 6' tall, police say. He was wearing yellow or tan camouflage pants and a matching shirt and baseball cap. Witnesses say he fled the scene on foot.
The Lorain Police Department and Taco Bell are offering a $15,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information should contact the Lorain police at 440-204-2105.
