We are making an Okinawan dish Taco Rice, taco fillings served on steamed rice. The vegetables seasoned with the salsa are delicious!
How to make Taco Rice

(2 people) Cook Time: 20 minutes
150g Ground Beef and Pork Mixture or single ground meat (5.3 oz)
Garlic Infused Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil
1/2 tbsp Sake
1 tbsp Ketchup
1 tbsp Japanese Worcestershire Sauce or 1/2 tbsp Oyster Sauce
1 tsp Chili Powder Blend
2 tbsp Tomato-based Salsa

2 Lettuce Leaves
1/2 Tomato
1 tbsp Lemon Juice
1 tbsp Parsley Leaves, Chopped
Salt and Pepper
320g Steamed Rice (11.3 oz)
2 Potato Chips, thick sliced
15g Cheese (0.53 oz)
1/2 Avocado
Powdered Cheese
* 1 tablespoon (tbsp) = 15 ml, 1 teaspoon (tsp) = 5 ml

Being Mexican and watching chef making this dish makes me smile. This is quite different from what we Mexicans use to cook for our tacos, but it is simply deliciously different. I feel flattered that one of our favorite dishes is presented here. Japan and Mexico have a lot in common. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, dear chef. Arigatou gozaimasu, chef-san! I don't get why people get here just to say "these are not tacos", "You shouldn't use ketchup", "you should fry the rice".... This is an okinawan dish! And she can cook her version as she pleases! Have you tried it? It tastes amazing! If you know better, why don't you start your own channel and teach others your recipe instead of moaning here? This recipe is awesome as it is, but if you don't like it, change it to your liking or just cook another dish and just quit complaining. Thanks.

As a Mexican, I can say that it's very interesting to see the adaptation Japanese people have made to one of our most popular dishes~. I think nobody should expect for this dish to be the same as Mexican tacos, beginning with the fact that we make practically everything to a taco xD And that some ingredients (like corn tortillas) can't be found anywhere else but in Mexico. Anyways, this looks delicious!! I can't wait to try it out and see how my parents react to such twist xD LOL

Why are people so butthurt around here? This video doesn't claim to be authentic Mexican cuisine, it just shows a Mexican inspired dish that's popular in some parts of Japan. I think it's interesting to see different adaptations of recipes and just because it isn't "real", it isn't bad.

I feel like there's not a lot of people (or none at all actually) talking about the origin of this dish. It's unique in the sense that it's basically Okinawan-American-Mexican food! The dish came about as a result of the American military bases in Okinawa. A lot of American cuisine, which included Mexican American food (Taco Tuesday type stuff, so ground taco meat and the like), was introduced to the Okinawans and they adjusted it based on their own palettes. Hence the creation of taco rice!

I remember doing something vaguely similar in college. The dorm that I was living in had a small convenience store, so I would buy a bag of microwaveable rice and a cup of chili from the salad bar. I'd mix them together and doctor it up as best as I could.

This is an interesting okinawan tex-mex fusion dish! I remember how thrilled I was to find a jar of salsa in a small store near my station when I lived in Tokyo. That and a bag of taco chips helped me to combat homesickness. :)
