When you continue to roll the door after identifying/engaging a threat, you risk exposing yourself to a second threat who is already alerted to your presence. You are also turning your back to the uncleared portion of the building. If you instinctively back up after engaging the threat, you are only exposing yourself to an already cleared area of the room. You are also still facing the uncleared portion of the building.

When he dropped his flashlight at around 10:00, that was a super valuable lesson to me. I could practice that 1000 times without live shots and thought holding the flashlight in my left hand and gun in the right is great. But add the jolt of someone appearing out of nowhere with a gun on me, and I would 100% want both hands on the gun. Both because that's how i shoot 90% of the time, and because I would want that stability. This shows you HAVE to practice how it will be. Holding that flashlight beside the gun looks and feels so natural but there is no way I would want to be locked into one handed shooting. Seeing that in this video taught me that in 2 seconds when dozens of reps didn't

I'd like to see more handheld light use. Having the light out first and then how to manage the hand positioning. I see a big plus in not pointing a firearm at anything just to identify as well as potentially not showing one's cards immediately. A test of smaller handheld lights and ring attachments would be nice as well. Handling different types of doors, shapes of doorways, dealing with other bright light sources, dealing with blinding oneself with reflective surfaces, use in and around the car or through glass.

There’s a lack of this type of technical information on KZfaq. I’ve thought through having to use a light in a self defense scenario in my head many times, so love that you guys are diving into this. It gives me a whole lot of perspective with how much I have to learn!

That was a Surefire weapon light. Probably the X300. Such a narrow area of light. The Olight Valkyrie has a flood light effect. You could light up the whole room with it. Lots of die hard Surefire fans like to talk shit about Olight, but it's 100% a legit competitor. That's why Surefire has to make the X300 ultra to compete with the Valkyrie. It essentially performs the same way by having the flood effect. I've been debating which light to get, but even right now Surefire X300 Ultra has a sale I'm still going with Olight.

I’m gonna have to try to setup alittle doorway scenario at my range. Low light is weird feeling all the way around haha if you haven’t shot in low light you need to!! Your brains yelling the whole time, “this is wrong!” Lol thanks guys

I’ve never understood people who choose not to have a weaponlight. This really cemented that for me. Umbrella lighting is worth mentioning too- in tight quarters like that, you don’t need to point a gun at something to illuminate it.

I have a concern that the Graham technic (hands side by side squeezing button into palm) could cause a sympathetic trigger squeeze, but I’m not sure. I use the Harries (support hand under dominant wrist with back of hands together. Support thumb on button) technique, but it must be practiced or you muzzle yourself getting into it. It seems to support my grip.

I would love to come get some training in with you guys. I also always open the invitation as I am very fortunate to have my own shooting range at my house it’s nothing special but we are able to do some actual training moving and shooting not just flat range tactics. The hope is I am able to get a knowledgeable experienced instructor such as yourself to hold a training session at my location just 20 minutes west of Cincinnati Ohio. We are located in ZIP Code 45002 and have the ability to shoot around 120 feet flat and then we have about 11 acres of woods and they provide the ability to train in a multitude of distances and elevations both at day and nighttime.
