Eric,love your videos, you are one of the very best instructors on line......I was hoping you might clarify your hinge guidence in this video, soft and subtle vs the guidence in your video A Simple 3-Step Drill For The Perfect Backswing on Apr 3, 2019, where you advocated a strong and pronounced hinge at 45 degee at completion of one piece takeaway to thigh. Thank you Eric

Hey Peter! Each can really work---all else equal I would get the club shaft parallel to the ground roughly when the butt of the club is just past the trail thigh from face on (thats the amount of hinge and when) BUt..... for the player who goes too low and inside adding more HINGE will help JUST GET TO NEUTRAL. Here I explain how to troubleshoot and how everything effects where the club goes should help: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z6hdZrKmrLrHo4E.html

I use a small clock-wise turn of the pelvis from the outside of the left/lead heel to get the club moving on the path that you describe. This move blends into the main engine of my swing, which is a simultaneous rotating of the left and right side shirt seams. Thinking about the shirt seams/obliques has added about 8 mph to my swing speed. I now feel like I'm getting the most that I can with both sides of my body contributing to the swing. Today's video gets me a consistent additional 5 mph, by picturing a light, coming from my sternum that is turned both ways by the turning of the shirt seams. Thanks so much for your tip, because it helps me to overcome a tendency, to get too handsy with the takeaway.

This is my only swing thought and it works! Still feels awkward at times, especially with driver, but I know the end result will be good. This goes along with your advice you mentioned in another video. Something like having the "door more closed than open" will make it easier at impact. I didn't get it at first but now I know what you're implying. Thanks a bunch Eric! Keep it up.

Eric, your thoughts... Always seem to find opposites in the golf swing. If one wants lag into contact, take that lag angle OUT of the takeaway. (this lesson) If one wants the right elbow in into contact, let it float OUT on the takeaway If one wants to hit from the inside, keep the clubhead on or above plane in takeaway (a little outside) If one wants to shallow the club on the downswing, let it feel a little up in the backswing Hogan cupped his wrists in the takeaway so as to BOW into contact Thanks for the vid

there is no "perfect swing" if there was Tiger would surely have it...golf is too fluid to ever "perfect it", you have to learn the basics and adapt to the situation at hand, like any sport. These TV guys keep trying to "perfect the swing" and forget to play golf...and putt

@@jim7eye7 you see though how golf instruction is flawed? Everyone thinks you master the swing and apply it to every shot? It needs to be 4 things, 1) get off the tee, find the ball...for most, that is a 3 wood 2), hit a mid iron around 150 yds 3) chip 4) putt so for most you need 4 clubs...once you master all 4, and really should be from red tees, you can move up... It's this lack of fundamentals that kills golfers as they play "try to out hit DeChambeau" like Rory did and now admits he ruined his swing...good job Rory, you're a moron

Is there proper relation of posture to hand angle on the club shaft? How do I know I am too upright or too much bent over? I sometimes feel like my long irons are too long for me because my stance seems to be too upright. How bent over should I be for longer irons?

Great info. It just seems everyone has something a little different to do in a golf swing that its information overload. I am your typical golfer over the top flipping at impact but not too extreme and on good days would manage to shoot mid 80's low 90's but could never break 80. So I took off to you tube to find that magical cure. LOL What has happened is information overload and now I shank the ball and at one time completely missed the ball which has never happened even when I first started playing 25 years ago. Now I am to the point of calling it quits. Where is the best place to start, I love the game but there is no way I would want to step on a course at this point.

Hey John! I've seen so many different speeds/tempos work I don't think there are any hard rules. There are some tempo ratios that we can use as averages. I think feeling the backswing and downswing the same speed for most is a good place to start.

Is a forward press after the eagle necessary to start the takeaway?
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 3 жыл бұрын
Hey John! No I would not say its necessary. I see most players with hands inside left thigh as a check point for where the hands should start. That pre sets the baseline (swing direction) more to the right for more draw. Hands more back more fade

This is my go to tip Eric! Now I'm working on shaping the ball. But my problem is the face feeling "closed" when I know it's supposed to be open in the takeaway when hitting a fade. Is this feel normal or should it feel "open"? Hope this makes sense.
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 3 жыл бұрын
Hey AJ! It's hard to give you specific advice without seeing your swing, the other elements, what you are actually doing vs feel, your ball flight tendencies, etc. You can most certainly hit a fade with face being more closed going back (many top tour pros do) What matters is face to path during takeaway The issue with opening going back is the potential that you are adding too much LOFT (losing distance) or over opening the face and curving too much right High level players have face open to path WITH lower dynamic loft I also would not suggest curving the ball too much both ways....one way curve on all shots best for 99% of people I have ever seen in terms of dispersion (unless you are already shooting under par) and even then...

Hi Eric if you don’t mind I would like to share my swing thoughts that works perfectly for me and may also work well for your students. Since we have a 180 degree swinging motion; then none of us should ever be fixated on how to manipulate our upper and lower body or either side of our symmetrical body. Our body automatically knows how to sequence our swing. So what works best for me? Mike Austin has always said the our swinging the club is in our hands. And Ed Merrins told us to swing the handle of the club. Both men were 100 percent correct So once I get myself in the ideal posture of bending my hip back and then bending my knees forward in order to balance my body to the swinging of the my club. My only swing thoughts are to have unlock and responsive hinges for my bones to react throughout my body. So that my lead hand can simply push the handle of my club up, back, around my body; and, then to start my downswing my trail hand pushes the handle of the club down, forward, up and around my body. This swing thought of my lead hand pushing the handle up to start my backswing then my trail hand pushing the handle down on my downswing should work perfectly for everyone; since everything else simply falls into place. To explain why this works is the fact that our muscles cannot push, they only can pull. Golf is a lever action that works on multiple planes as we are swinging our club in which our bones acts as the levers set on their own plane ready to respond and push as well. So throughout our swing we can only push with our bones in order for our muscles to pull throughout our swinging the club. Swinging our club with our lead hand pushing up on our back swing and then our trail hand push down communicates with all the rest of our lever bones to be directed to push as well on the corresponding side of our body. Hope you like what I said. Cheers

this is the #1 most neglected item in golf instruction...glad you are talking about it You have to master this "position one" to ever play consistent golf...when I learned to play 36 years ago this is what I was taught...it's what I teach and what all students hate...well if you never master basics you will always be a hacker. It also really improves your short game...

@@CogornoGolf exactly, it's how "Faldo lost his swing"? He became aware of "downswing", so in any instruction you must differentiate between "upswing and downswing" theory...so in the chair drill? that is "upswing theory", in the "takeaway drill"? Upswing again... Next what is vastly missing in golf instruction is there are "levels" of golf, much like in tennis where players are rated for skill, so to make great instructional videos you need to say like "this is golf 101", if you are a beginner...to try to teach a Tiger woods move you would have to say "this is a high level move", say for people who are 10 or less or even scratch players looking for new insigts...most play at the 201 level, they can hit, but have no clue as to how or why the swing works...no basic grip, ,setup, stance has ever been taught to them, .. This is a big gap in instruction and the PGA and USGA need to stop with "handicap" and issue "proficiency ratings" just like tennis does...
