Every year we watch bucks grow up on our cameras all summer then all of a sudden they disappear. Where did they go? We talk about what causes their habitat shift and what we can do about it in this video.

I have 3 10 pt. 9 and 8 pt - was velvet and would see them a couple times a week. On corn field edge and creek draw. Got hard horned and they still showed up a couple time later but he has not been around for a couple weeks. From August to end of Sept and they started to disappear and have all shown up corn field edge late at night, not later morning or afternoon anymore. Still have a bunch of doe showing up Morning and afternoon. My few spots do not get pressured since I am the only main hunter on the area that bow hunts. There are a couple families with land and plots nearby but mainly rifle hunt. The spots are creek beds/draws surrounded by thick trees, tall grasses, with cornfields on each side. With a big patch of prairie grasses. The family has not done any harvesting yet, so both of the cornfields are still standing. I only hunted one of the 3 spots a month ago for 2 days and saw a couple does.

As the natural habitat starts to diminish the bucks will tend to hold in cover until dark before coming out into the open. If you aren't worried that they've been pressured, I'd set up in these transitional/holding areas just off the edge of the food sources and see if you have any luck there. Best of luck!

@HobbyHarvest appreciate the info/idea. My thought was to do the same, sit on the edge of the area, because I've seen their travel paths. Crazy was one of them got bumped about 3 weeks ago and was bedding 10 yards from a decently busy country road at about 3 in the afternoon that was about 100 yards from the corn.

I only get doe on cameras in summer and bucks show up around September/October. Hunting near thickets public land, private land multiple small food plots for fall/winter. I don’t grow summer food to get rid of doe and fawn in summer

That sounds similar to what I see each year. I know I have great fall habitat so I see mostly does all summer. Then, like you said, in Sept. & Oct. all of a sudden I'll get some midnight cruising bucks, they find my habitat, stick around, and turn into daylight bucks. So important to have the best habitat the time of year we are actually trying to hunt.

I've got probably 8-10 different bucks ranging from a 12 point that I've been chasing for the past 3 years to button bucks that might be a year old maybe. My issue is they only show up at night. I've tried following them and looking for other habitats where they may be. I've tried looking for bedding and food sources. So far I've yet to find their beds but I know they're staying in the area I hunt. It's not like they're jumping from property to property. Is there anything I can do or any places I should look to find where they are hiding during the day? I'm not sure how to get these Deer to go back to daytime movement. They move all summer during the day. A month or two before opening day, they go all nocturnal and i can't find any habitat where they may be hiding.
