Taking Down Armed Robbers! | The Rookie

Our Rookies must go head to head with a pair of armed robbers. Chen learns how to improvise on the job, while Nolan gets held at gunpoint, but hey... they signed up for it all!
From Season 1 Episode 3 "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly": Nolan and Bishop chase a group of thieves for a bag of money, but Nolan loses it again when a street performer runs off with it. Meanwhile, Chen helps Bradford adjust to being back on duty after being shot, but also witnesses complications between him and his drug-addict wife, who reveals to Chen that she use to be a cop.

Fun Fact: The pistol used by the female suspect is a compact 1911. When you see it pointed at Nolan's head, the hammer is still up. Since the 1911 is a single action, the hammer must be down in order to fire. If she were to fire that weapon with the hammer up (whether there's a round in the chamber or not) Nothing would happen.

I'm with Nolan. She could have just shot him without any fuss, but instead he demanded he drop his gun, allowed him to only holster it, and went on to monologue

The Crown Vic, iconic as it may be in North American policing, is a relic that is losing the battle to newer, higher powered cars more and more.

@@LorrddUp north here at OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) they removed all the crown Victorias, it’s impossible to see one I only see Taurus now days. And at the Alberta RCMP they made a KZfaq video saying goodbye to the final crown Victoria that was in service which they are replacing with ford explorers

I solid disagree with Bishop. She's far too jaded and un-trusting. Nolan wouldn't be alive long enough for Bishop to taze that woman unless Nolan was actually getting through to her and talking her down. Also, no trained killer ever wants to shoot someone in the head, when the killer is less than 3 feet away.

The actress that played Officer Bishop was sexually harassed by the actor that played Nolan's room mate, she left the show, and I presume he was fired. I am sure that they both are no longer there.

As if you were and a person who is in the film I always hate the misuse of unsteady cameras but when they do the body cam shots and the camera isn't steady that is acceptable so many times I see the unsteady and used in the wrong areas where this show uses it is perfect it shows what the officers going through from their perspective which is awesome

I am going to have to ask the local Police / Deputies if Code Gray in their vocabulary means hospital lockdown because it means violent patient where I am. Code silver is hospital lockdown where I am.

No hospitals in most of california use code silver for armed intruders. The deputies/officers dont use this code, the hospitals themselves use this code to alert staff

The fact that the hospitals in the US have an actual code for this thing, like it's something that regularly happens is just fascinating to me. You guys live in such a strange country.

@@kelogorn america has National Information Management System ( N.I.M.S) which generalizes info including in emergency response to various incidents. It sets up communication between agencies to use broad language that some other agencies who assist can interpret (10-4, 10-20, cancel, enroute, etc.). This is to not cause confusion

But to quicken the proper response needed. Code silver alerts a hospital to lockdown and notify security to back dowb and monitor from a distance until law enforcement arrives. Code grey is a combative person, which security can handle

gawd dayum That lady was a blackhawk helicopter doorgunner, too bad the 50 cal. Machine guns and the M136 Miniguns they use aren't available for this particular situation, but then again a couple of cops wearing paper thin plates stand no chance against the weapons mentioned above.

@@wessnyder117 i disagree I've been through that scenario in krav maga and with his arms up would put him in a great position to even spin and lock her arm in, redraw his gun and put 2 rounds in her chest but i am 16 so i am probably sprier than that middle-aged cop note; when i did this drill my opponent was a 5 foot 6 female and i am about 6 foot 1 we were using airsoft guns

Actually she had a 1911 pointed at Nolan and the hammer was down which means the gun wasn't ready to fire as the gun is a single action only.

For hospitals it’s code silver for a person with a weapon. Code gray is for someone being aggressive. Why did they use code gray?

Because not all hospitals use the same codes. I thought the same until emergency surgery recently. Found out otherwise when a similar situation (far less risky) happened as I was in recovery.
