Aaron Kindsvatter and David King are the founders of The Society for the Ethical Practice of Psychotherapy, where they are fostering among professionals the will and discipline to provide ideological free therapies, while many professional organizations (from schools to accreditation boards) are pushing blatantly marxist and collectivist versions of "therapy" onto clients and providers alike. This conversation, the moral and ethical treatment of patients and clients by providers, is very important at this time. Thank you, Ben.

Walked away from the field 6 months ago. I’ve never been healthier or happier. It’s a sad state of affairs when a professional becomes part of the problem. No amount of money could persuade me to go back. I am done with the insanity.

Great to see more and more therapists speak out about the corruption of their industry. No doubt each has and continues to pay a HUGE price for it, so we need to give credit / hear ❤

The field of psychotherapy experienced its peak in the 60’s & 70’s & 80’s & 90’s. The dysfunction and indeed collapse of this profession accelerated in the early 2000’s and is now at a level of nearly complete professional dysfunction as well as social absurdity.

@@windsongshf Meyers Briggs teaches that isolation can be one's true identity. Which is obviously false and very dangerous and has caused and will cause the suffering of millions who erroneously identify as introverts. What is this emotional energy that one can gain it by sitting alone in a room with a book? What good did all that emotional energy do for humanity for all the introverts isolated during the lockdown? Did you hear of any golden age of introverts? I didn't. I heard of a lot of lonely and miserable people.
@windsongshf
@windsongshf 24 күн бұрын
@@lkae4 Yes, if using "introversion" as an identity and taking it to the extreme and isolating for long periods of time, I could see where that would be a problem. What I understood is that introverts "recharge" by having time alone and extroverts "recharge" by being around other people. I'm an introvert and totally get this, but I'm friendly and social. For instance, I used to work in restaurants. I had no problem with it but needed time alone at home for a while to unwind and before I'd be ready to take on the rest of the day. I think being an extreme extrovert could also be a problem as well because then one is dependent on other people's energy.

I finished my masters in clinical mental health in 2020. It was a terrible experience. I am a gay man and the ideological capture was out of control. I wouldn’t trust any therapist under 40.

Therapy is ground zero because therapy attempts to address the issues of meaning, morality and identity, what is my purpose and how do I become a good person, as does this modern totalizing critical worldview. Key word is totalizing.

From what I understand, the chances of finding a non-woke, competent and knowledgable psychotherapist now, or rly for a decade, are/have been so low relatively speaking, that unfortunately ppl as a general rule should just not do this anymore imo. Hate to say it, but also, it was a young science to begin with. (I mean...except for Leslie! Rofl).

The problem that most fail to understand, is that referral services are compromised, so people need to do their OWN vetting. So, if a referral to [fill in the blank] therapist is recommended, one needs to spend the time to go to website and socials to see what he / she is saying, recommends and who is it that is engaging with them. Then, if that person seems to check out, make an appointment and do more digging, PRIOR to getting into any issues they may need addressing. . Of course, unless one is cognizant of how captured the industry is, he / she may not be so careful and end up being sold a bunch of garbage. The genuine therapists were taught how to listen and guide the patient on how to heal themselves, where a captured one was never trained / learned proper skills, so not going to be helpful.

My last therapist was anti-woke. She was a Nigerian immigrant, we practiced CBT. She had no time for victimology. I spoke to her very freely about race and the current shitshow. She appreciated my candor and comfort with her. Her poker face broke when I told her about drag queen entertainment and story hour for children. She did not approve.

I made a comment, but it seems to have been filtered due to some inflammatory language. I think these men are basically doing the pre-woke liberal version of precisely the ideologically slanted therapy they complain about. Commitment one is pure self-deceit and fosters an atmosphere of dishonesty. "Unconditional positive regard", yeah, right. Commitment two is pure wilful ignorance. Certainly you should not treat your patients like walking stereotypes, but that does not mean you should be selectively blind to the implications of particular traits of your patient. Instead, it means you should take everything about their situation into account as best you can. Commitment three is inserting woke politics in a profession where it does not belong. Psychotherapists should not be political advocates, at least not in their capacity as psychotherapists. Commitment four is just a textbook case of liberals being in denial about themselves being ideological. All the other commitments consist of hardly anything other than ideology. Commitment five and six are blatant scientism and subtle ideological brainwashing. I don't think they're any more fit to be psychotherapists than the woke therapists they criticise.

Just what I was thinking. Sounded pretty woke to me, actually. I'm also uncomfortable with the idea/belief etc that patients are "extremely vulnerable". They may be in many cases, but wouldn't it be better to assume that they are capable adult people who are stronger than they think?

I don't think I agree with your conclusion, but I do agree that there is a danger of this too turning into dogma. But therapy/mental health in general is a field where this is always a danger. Mostly because it is so exceedingly hard to evaluate.
@CorneliusHDybdahl
@CorneliusHDybdahl 21 күн бұрын
@@Asptuber They are literally commitments that people are asked to explicitly adhere to. That makes it dogma by any reasonable definition. The only remaining question is whether these dogmas are correct or incorrect, and where this question is concerned, while I can see how you could quibble over commitments three to six, the first two commitments are explicitly asking the therapist to ignore information available to him, ie. to engage in wilful ignorance.
