4:04 If Tom eats a mosquito that's just finished eating Matt, is that cannibalism by proxy? Cannibalism in the second degree?

But see it wasn't cannibalism when the mosquito performed its act of larceny, it was just theft. And now that the blood's in the mosquito's possession it's not really Matt's blood any more. So really it's just a strange dietary choice, plenty of iron with some protein for character building. But it's not cannibalism any more than eating a chicken that ate one of its own eggs (something they do to save on nutrients sometimes) is cannibalism. There's a species barrier there that prevents the cannibalism from being something that Tom did. Most especially since Tom didn't try to eat the mosquito, the mosquito just couldn't tell the inside of his mouth from the outside.

I really like how the lighting so very slowly fades. The change is entirely imperceptible when watching, but then the outtake at the end jumps back to the beginning and you see the jarring lighting jump. Neat.

Today's "mind blown" moment: Realizing when looking at a group photo that "Hey, waitaminute... that's the Rare Earth guy. He's the son of Chris Hadfield???" Went straight to the Rare Earth channel on KZfaq and right in my face is a video of father & son sitting together talking about launching the channel. How did I miss this?? Mind: Blown.

If the trip had all the things you've outlined - 5-star dining, a pastry chef, open bar, turn down service, helicopter excursions, on an icebreaker for 2.5 weeks - $25,000 seems like good value. Not an option for me, ever, but staying in 5 star hotels, with those sorts of amenities and activities, you would run out money in 10 days.

@@2knives1cook yeah but that's part of the experience isn't it? "I've been on a Russian Icebreaker in the Arctic." Some people find that bragging rights-worthy of course, but for alot of people this is an attraction in and of itself: no tourist rush, just a luxurious trip through a desolate, unspoilt and beautiful part of the world.

Of course Chris Hadfield is like that, he is the human embodiment of what it is to be the perfect Canadian. Only a Canadian could be a humble fighter pilot, sort of like Canadian hockey players, quiet and polite while not bragging. It is our only defence against being utterly sucked into being American. What you did not mention and I suspect is true, is that he most likely has a very dry ironic but understated humour
