Beautiful review Peter. It took me awhile, as well, to get used to Talisker. It's quite low in ppm - about 20. I get a lovely smoke, a bit of iodine, ash, slight cigar smoke, a nice one, butterscotch, mild fruits. I love the sea brine. I drink it neat without water. Delicious! 4/5 for me!! Aloha!! 🙂

Did you know Robert Louis Stevenson, the guy who wrote Treasure Island, actually mentioned Talisker in his poem "The Scotsman's Return from Abroad"? He even called it "the king o' drinks" - Pretty cool connection to literature 🥃

I agree there is a delicate craftsmanship that shows up in this whisky, even more so in the 18 imo. I love mingle of coastal and sweet, with the Distiller's Edition bringing sherry fruits for the trifecta.

I'm not sure of the exact distillers edition I have, but the one I have is also good. I'm pretty sure it has a sherry component to it.

I grabbed Talisker 10 a couple of years ago so it's an older bottle before it went through cosmetic makeover. It's been a great sip for the last few months for me. As you have noted, sweet, peat and salt all enveloped nicely. I wish Diageo would just stop chill filtering and coloring it. I have their Port Ruigue which is port finish. I have yet to crack that one open.

I wrote Talisker off, but the profile is starting to improve for me. I'm really starting to appreciate it.

Talisker 10 is an excellent whisky for its value, in Spain you can get it for about 40 euros. A great drink despite its low specs. Great review Peter.

I usually enjoy the big D products. But I also enjoy others who are not the big D just as much, so I go with them. Taste is taste, and it's whomever's money, so not judging. Just saying. I'd like to see a blind tasting of D vs. non D version in an apples to apples (oranges to oranges, if you like) battle. That could be some fun.

Very approachable smoke/peat, moderate but not overwhelming. Sweet, fruity and lingering... Beautiful whisky. The perfect pour for acclimating Mary Bridget to peat..?!?! 🥃

Not sure if I can take this one. As soon as he said "Iodine" I knew I wouldn't like it. I am very turned off by the peat that smells like band-aides and iodine! But I might take one for the team and give it a try. Cheers!

in terms of 10 years old islay skye whiskies. i always need a bootle of talisker 10, laphroaig 10 cask strength cask and ardbeg 10 on my shelf. depends on mode same value

I just got to taste this yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised. It's well priced and definitely worth buying. I gotta say though, I do prefer the old label design. Cheers Peter🥃

Talisker 10 and the annual distiller's edition are enjoyable releases from that distillery. The other distillery on Skye who is actively releasing product is Torabhaig. Their whisky is young, but I 'm a big fan.

My first bottle of Talisker was the newer design Talisker 10. I really enjoy it, and have enjoyed many other Taliskers since. However, after hearing from others that the older design bottles (like yours) were better, I was pretty skeptical, but wanting to do a side by side. Just two weeks ago, I was able to compare my (newer) Talisker 10 to my friend's (older) Talisker 10, and unfortunately I felt that they were quite a bit different. The older bottling had more fruitiness and richness compared to the newer. My guess is that there were a larger percentage of older casks used in the older design. Now I want to track down older Taliskers instead of the newer design bottles.

@@whiskeyisajourney The Talisker 10 from before 2021 is indeed more fruity and roung> It is the serie Made by the sea. Pricewise however, it costs in my area now 65 euro.

Peat is an accumulation of partially decayed vegetation or organic matter. It is unique to natural areas called peatlands, bogs, mires, moors, or muskegs. Sphagnum moss, also called peat moss, is one of the most common components in peat, although many other plants can contribute. Distilleries burn these peate logs to dry their barley. And the flavor of the peat gets into the barley and you get a smoky peated note in the whiskey when all is said and done. The other type of Pete is me 🤪
