The reason for tying the legs and closing the nose, eyes and ears after a person has deceased is to prevent Dhananjaya vayu from affecting people around. There are 10 different types of vayus in living organisms. PraanaN, ApaaNan, Vyaanan, Udhaanan, Samaanan, Koorman, Naagan, Kirigaran, Devadattan and Dhananjayan. The former 5 are pacha mukya praaNan and the latter 5 are upa praaNan. The death of the person occurs when the PraaNan leaves the body. The moment praaNan leaves the body, the other vayus also start to exit one by one and the vayu that surrounds the entire body in no time to do its work of complete decomposition is dhananjayan. This decomposing vayu is the last one to leave the body and is highly toxic. Its job is to make sure that the body is completely decomposed. To prevent it from finding the exit route in the physical body, all dhvaaraas are closed/blocked after death.
