Another way of saying "that ship has sailed" is "missed the boat." "We just sold out of the new Stephen King novel, so you missed the boat on that one!" (Apparently in sign language "train gone" has a similar meaning.) Time after time/time and time again: Both mean to do something multiple times, with the implication that the desired goal was never actually reached, or was fleeting. "I have told you time and time again to pick up after yourself!" A month of Sundays: literally the amount of time it would take to reach 30/31 days if you only counted Sundays, which would be around 8 months, but actually it means quite a long time, possibly years "Let's go to Chicago, we haven't been there in a month of Sundays." New York minute: a very brief amount of time, much less than an actual minute "You've got a New York minute to adjust that attitude of yours!" A sign of the times: an indication that things have changed over the course of time "Electric car charging stations are a sign of the times." Day in and day out: constantly "Even though I'm at it day in and day out, it's all I can do to keep this house clean! Two timer: someone who has more than one romantic relationship "He promised to be true, but turned out to be just another two timer." Keep time: to see someone, usually romantically "It's hard to imagine them as a couple, but I hear they've been keeping time." Time for a change: something needs to be different "I'm tired of sitting at home all day, it's time for a change!" Have a second/minute: to not be otherwise occupied "When you have a second, I need to go over our new security measures." I can't recall ever hearing "donkey's years," but I think "dog's age" has a similar meaning.
