La Liga does this for all Spanish teams involved in European competitions. They did the same for Villarreal 2yrs ago ahead of their semi final with Liverpool to give them an extra days rest. They do it to give their clubs the best possible chance in Europe which helps boost their coefficient rankings if they do well. It's actually a clever thing, not a nefarious one. It's something the PL should honestly consider themselves.
@therealking6202
@therealking6202 10 күн бұрын
@@timmurray2945 But if they're "allowed" to change schedules, what else are they allowed to change? Does that mean they can just change scorelines? The results? I know that's ridiculous, but I do think there should be some regulations to it so that no league/team gets an unfair advantage. This comes off the back of Barca being investigated for the whole referee thing...which just gives the appearance that the culture of the league is to do whatever it can to give their teams an advantage, fair or not, legal or not. If it's within the rules though, maybe this is just the PL shooting itself in the foot.

@@therealking6202 I think these are two different discussions. I do agree that La Liga stinks of corruption when it comes to those types of things, but the rescheduling of fixtures for their teams involved in Europe has been in place for a long time. Simon, you don't get Pep's point at all. Why is Manchester City playing after 70 hours while Manchester United and Coventry City have had 7 days of rest? Yes, the FA could have changed the fixtures because it knew City plays in the UCL quarterfinals and FA cup semi final many weeks ago. FA has changed fixtures in weeks advance and why couldn't it do it this time? How much players get paid is irrelevant but it's physically demanding to ask players to play three games a week. Just because in the past players have played 65 games in tight schedules it doesn't mean it is correct. FA could have adjusted the schedule for better performances.

He used to hide behind klopp and enjoy nice schedules. Never uttered a word those days. Now suddenly a problem even with a big squad. Pep is a master in diverting attention. MC lost to Real Madrid and he quickly turned everyone's attention to timing of games. MC lost their run in Champions League. Period. They are bitter now.

With modern football there are too many games and competitions, you have the Primiere League, the League Cup, FA Cup, Champions League, Super Cup, FIFA World Club competition, European Cup of Nations and World Cup Qualification. Also some players may return to their homeland in Africa and South America to play in their Nations League. So it's a lot of competition and some players do get injured. So Pep Guardiola is right and he always have a point to prove.

Because they played in an era ignorant of mental health and physical well being, everyone is to be as asinine as they were and continue to be. The sport has greatly improved, in part, due to better sporting care of the players. And 'if my aunt were my uncle' and City had won vs RM and Pep said had Pep said the same thing, I suspect Mr. Jodan would spew some rhetoric about using the UCL as an excuse. Dead archaic thinking.

Pep is right, Spain and Germany do all they can to protect their teams especially in times of European competition. It is thought that before the Real Madrid and Man City game, Real didn't play any football for about 10 days. While City on the otherhand had game after game, every three days. Man City played against Real for 120 minutes, it was exhilarating and exciting, one of the best game ever. Real Madrid was running scared and defending with all 10 men in their penalty box. After this game Many City had another 2 days to prepare for an another competition, so no rest and recuperation for the Man City players, whilst Real didn't. So Pep Guardiola knows what he was talking about. He was right.

Simon is letting emotions seep into this debate, mental health in the young is a completely different topic, do not go after the young when the game is rigged against him, young rich footballers are not comparable to young poor workers...remember Simon received a grant from family to get started as a young man as mentioned in his book, this is also speaking from a platform of privilege. Furthermore, Man City are lauded for being a winning machine and snowflakes and whiners the next...make your mind up

Being more open about mental health in today’s society is a double edged sword, there’s no doubt men being able to speak about their issues more openly is a good thing and probably does save lives in extreme cases, but at the same time its breeding a society of excuse makers who play the mental health card when in alot of cases what they’re going through is just called life and the ups and downs that life brings. And whether we like it or not that modern societal attitude of entitlement and “poor me” has crept into sport.

To say Pep wouldn’t say anything about the health of the players if city beat Madrid is nonsense. Pep has said this for a long time (even recommended the players go on strike) as have Klopp and even Ferguson said it back in the day. Jordan couldn’t run mile. As a football fan I want to watch football all the time but not at the detriment to the quality. The Spanish league look after there teams why can’t the English leagues. And to throw out the myth that city have a world class player in each position is ridiculous, go and take a look at the squad and come back and tell me who these world class players are.

The ball is in play more now, the keeper can’t pick it up and waste time like in years gone by, the game in general seems quicker now. A lot of the long ball teams have pretty much disappeared now and the ball is in play from the keeper and now the new directive of added time playing an extra 5-10 mins all contribute to more demands on players fitness.
