Excellent video - so amazing how easy things go when parts actually fir together as they're supposed to. Their engineering folks must be dedicated kit builders as well a engineers

Yeah there's a lot of thought put into this. Even to the point of handing things so that you can't install something backwards. And not just big parts but the little dinkus ones.

Just got that model the other day. It is a work of art.

So Glad I'm watching these before I make a start on mine - great calls on the turbo chargers and the Quickboost set. Another great video Doog, it's looking fantastic so far, your gear bays look spot on (and this coming from an ex-engineer with many many hours with his head shoved up them).

I built this kit a couple of months ago and have to agree that the fit of the parts and general engineering of the kit is out of this world. its a real pleasure to build. I didn't have an issue with the guns but if I was being super critical I would have liked some gun bay detail and the option of having the gun bay doors open. At the moment the gun bay is full of a metal ball to prevent tail sitting. Also I would have liked the option of building with the flaps open or poseable

I wish they produced a 1/32 version. I'd be all over it with bells on.

After watching this, I am really looking forward to the P38H Tamiya kit that I have. I think that quick boost has the H gun barrels which I think are a little bit different.

Think they have a couple options IIRC - at least an early and late

All model companies who design kits need to buy this kit and see how it can be done. Also, I'm really, really hoping Tamiya drops a J.
@DoogsModels3 жыл бұрын
I can't think of a single kit more inevitable than a J/L variant.

And when that J arrives, my question will be to make a Marge (Bong) or a Scat II (Olds)?

@@kudukilla I'd have to do NMF. Lots of nice liveries in the PTO

Patreon hellz yeah. As always, so very subtle with the weathering and coloring blend. Thanks for addressing the spotting issue with chipping fluid, will any flow improver work (sitting on a fresh bottle of Vallejo airbrush flow improver)? Along the same lines, will other versions of mild lacquer thinner work for thinning the washes?
@DoogsModels3 жыл бұрын
I don't know - worth trying. Most flow aids will help disrupt surface tension. As for thinning the washes - Mr Weathering Thinner is an enamelish thinner. My personal theory is that it's half odorless mineral spirits, half naphtha. I've tried the Mr. Weathering Colors with lacquers before and they tend to fall out of suspension really quickly, whcih sucks for airbrush use.

@@DoogsModels ah, got it. More products to buy, good thing this particular build is a ways off.

Matt, you said you mixed "a couple of drops" of the STB. I just got a bottle and on it it says to mix it 90/10 (water is the 90 I think). Did you just put a couple of drops in the airbrush cup filled, say, about halfway with the Mig chipping fluid?
@lesgl3 жыл бұрын
Tamiya being ambitious with alternate panels in the P38??..wait until you see what they done with the upcoming Phantom..lol
@AJTStuff3 жыл бұрын
I just bought one that's on its way as I type based on this series. I'm new-ish and that tip about the flow improver was like a bolt of lighting. I've been trying to work out chipping and was scratching my head over the way the chipping fluid (hairspray, Mig, whatever I tried) beads up and leave watermarks behind. I've also dived-in on MRP. How would you do chipping with MRP as the main color coat? Seems like it's too water-resistant for that.
@DoogsModels3 жыл бұрын
In my experience nothing chips better than MRP or Mr Color. Their resistance actually yields really small chips that you just can't get with emulsion acrylics. It takes thin coats and I've found that getting the paint damp, letting it sit for a few minutes, and then coming back and attacking it can really help. Recommend playing around on a mule to get the feel of it. And enjoy the P-38!

Nice to see you having a good time putting together a kit! I was beginning to think no kit would live up to your standards. What would you say is the best fitting kit you have ever built?
@DoogsModels3 жыл бұрын
This one. Followed a ways back by the Tamiya F-14, Tamiya 1/32 Corsair, then, I don't know, maybe the Wingnut Wings Snipe.
@AJTStuff3 жыл бұрын
Matt, couple more quick questions. I just did the spray washes to the gear bay bits. I started at about 50/50 but the brush wasn't spraying consistently and so I upped the ratio to about 60/40 which was better. I was surprised by this as these washes seems very (VERY) thin to begin with. What ratio do you use?
@DoogsModels3 жыл бұрын
I don't know the exact ratio but I go pretty thin. They're thin as they are but a bit coarse so they spray chonkier than they look

@mattadams75982 жыл бұрын
Matt do you think the Quickboost base would fit the master models metal barrels?
@DoogsModels2 жыл бұрын
Yes! The larger/longer barrels will certainly need some glue help since the Master pins are not the same size as the holes in the QB base, but they'll work. Well, as long as you don't drop them on the floor and run over then with a chair wheel...

Matt is there enough meat in the tamiya gun barrel assembly to cut and drill out to add barrels post assembly? Maybe something with a stepped diameter near the mounting point? Just a thought.
@DoogsModels3 жыл бұрын
I think you could probably add a hole - not sure about stepped diameter in any way that'd be useful.
