The little modifications and general tinkering is just as an enjoyable part of the hobby as driving the cars. Back in the 80's I was always taking apart the standard silver can 540's. They were of course non serviceable but that didn't stop me from bending back the little metal tabs and subjecting it to some DIY (Destroy it yourself) mods 😁. One of the most common cleaning methods was running the motor in a container of water for a few minutes and then stripping it down for a forensic inspection with a toothpick, cottonbud and some WD40 lol. It probably made no difference whatsoever to performance, but it was a magical sense of achievement as a kid. Really enjoyed this Glenn. Do you remember the Demon motors? They were fantastic and really looked the part.

@@TAMIYALegendsIconic motors ☺ unfortunately most of the examples I've seen are quite badly damaged, particularly the Demons, with the Red hologram type stickers often ripped, faded or completely missing. But they are over 30 years old, so it's to be expected I guess 😔 Can you believe 30 plus years have passed that quickly? But at least we still get to keep the memories and magic alive through great channels like this. And hopefully it'll continue. ☺

Nice one, I told you to do this in an other video. Mine has lasted years after I fitted bearings to my RZ motor. Theory is, around 10% more RPM & 10% more Torque. Slightly longer run times, all due to less friction., also a longer lasting motor. As long as those old bearings have no play or at least minimal play on the rotor shaft, all is well.😎 just like RC cars, bearings are the go. For efficient motoring.

@@TAMIYALegends The Technigold runs at 19000 rpm at best efficiency and has less torque and weaker magnets than the Stock range of motors, which all rev at about at about 22000/23000 rpm at best efficiency, like a Dynatech 01R. But their extra torque means you can gear up a little on the pinion. I'm sure a Stock RZ/BZ/TZ would run rings around a Technigold and an 01R. For anyone wonder why these Tamiya super stocks have bushings and not bearing is bc of JRCMA regulations. In order for any 23 turn stock motor to be used in any race following JRCMA rules, the motor must use bushings, eyelet style brushes (cannot be soldered to the brush hood) and for rebuildables to have the rotor shaft protruding from the endbell with a rounded end. Oilite bushings aren’t bad when you properly maintain them with the right oil. When the motor spins, the bushings heat up and oil starts to seep onto the armature shaft and provides a layer of oil for lubrications.

Hello mate quick question before I attempt this mod , how does the brass bushing come out
@TAMIYALegends
@TAMIYALegends 2 жыл бұрын
Hey 👋🏻 The bushes should just tap out but be gentle. Getting the bearings in is a little more tricky especially with the magnets 🤣 It might be an idea to put the bearings in the freezer overnight, hopefully that’ll make it easier for you 😊👊🏻

Please help. I subscribed because I’m desperate for answers. I just bought a fully built chassis TT02R. Full alloy. I bought the remote and receiver. Now how do I pick a servo? And what engine and esc should I use? I intend on parking lot runs. Some top speed runs and drag racing it. Please help. I’m so confused and not sure what to pull the trigger on. Also how much better is it to have a program card included? Please help ! Big fan.

@@TAMIYALegends a friend of mine told me that bashings are in all cars and the reason is because they don't tend to break as ball bearings do I tried to convince him of the opposite but he kept his ground... I guess it doesn't hurt to put ball bearings in, if it breaks amen..

@@edoardobarzano978 Yeah it’s the opposite my friend, as long as you put a drop of bearing oil in now and again they’ll last a very long time 😊👊🏻

rc guy Yeah I’ll run it as it is to see how it runs, then I’ll have a play with the timing later, apparently somebody’s just said, you can get it up to around 32k rpm 😳
