I've always interpreted as the "honest mistake" wasn't Logan's mixup but John putting too much sleeping drug into Logan, not giving him time to understand the rule of the game.

I think it was both. He was angry and wanted Logan to suffer for making the mistake that killed John. Then he put too much drug into Logan and he realised how easy mistakes are to make. That's why he said that Logan taught him that traps can't come from a place of anger and vengeance. Because thats why Logan was put in the trap and what probably caused John to over drug him, because he was being careless with Logan because he was angry.

I think a lot of people consider this one to be the worst (me included, unfortunately) because it doesn’t FEEL like a Saw movie. Revealing the killer to be some random guy we’ve been following throughout the movie feels lazy, the visuals just aren’t great and are so bright at points it gives me a headache, the CGI weapons/blood and entire corn trap were terrible, and all in all every single character was so unlikeable most audiences found no one to route for. The best part of this movie for me, personally, is the laser orange slice bit at the end- BUT NOT EVEN THAT MAKES SENSE! 😭 Also why did John forgive that guy? He could’ve gotten his cancer treated so much earlier and didn’t because of a single person, and he tends to that person’s wounds and APOLOGISES? Jigsaw? John Kramer? Apologising to a victim??? I do like certain aspects, but overall it’s such a break from the rest of the series it feels like an original horror film that got rewritten into the franchise, and that’s not good. Spiral, in my eyes, was better, especially in its visuals, because at least you could feel and TELL it was a Saw movie- and it didn’t even have Jigsaw in it other than a single photo! Sorry for my rant, but I wanted to defend how I feel about this movie. You’re welcome to your own opinion, obviously, but I just can’t seem to think of it in any way related to the other films in the series. More like a popcorn flick, which is fine

@@moistwrmonastring1017 It makes perfect sense... Yes, Logan made a simple but costly mistake but John did the exact same thing during his game. John gave Logan too much sedative. That's why Logan remained unconscious and almost died, without ever having a chance in the game. John made a simple mistake and almost cost someone their life. Logan also isn't a "random" person. He's no less random than Hoffman or Strahm. Logan is medical examiner who is part of the investigation, just like any of the cop protagonists we had before. He also becomes a suspect, like many of the protagonists we had before. The story is very much still a Saw movie beat for beat. CGI and visuals, yeah aren't great but I don't get the complaint about it not feeling like a Saw story. The only reason I can see people feeling this why is because Logan wasn't introduced in a previous movie, as a random extra or background character.

@@ImAlsoMerobiba my issue is that everyone in the movie SUCKS. Jigsaw lacks the campiness the other movies do so well, it doesn’t feel like a Saw movie because it’s ridiculous in a way that frustrates me instead of making me fall in love with the film. Logan feels random because this is the movie after Saw 3D. I was expecting to see Lawrence make a return during my first watch through, but instead they did a cheap reveal like it wasn’t obvious the entire time. The other movies pull this off because they’re older, the characters have interesting qualities and the writing is campy in a classic horror kind of way. Jigsaw misses that mark for me by taking itself too seriously while having glaring issues. The TV’s despite it being set before flatscreens were a thing, the laser trap without getting any insight into how tf he acquired lasers 😭 Every character is aggressively unlikeable, the dialogue is atrocious, the visuals aren’t good either, and the traps weren’t even good! If it missed one or two marks, I wouldn’t be as mad at it, but it missed every single one! If it went into a more ridiculous category, if it pushed itself into the almost soap opera Saw I’ve come to love, I wouldn’t mind this movie. It’s just too much like every other recent horror movie to feel like Saw to me. I’m glad other people enjoy it for me, but the reason Jigsaw and Spiral fall flat is because the balance doesn’t feel right between the gore and camp. Saw X did everything I mentioned right, though!!

On saw 3d, gordon attacked hoffman with 2 more people, John was very strategic, his secrets had secrets, there were definitely more people involved, gordon himself was kept a secret until the very end

It's a shame the Saw fans didn't like this movie much. Because it led the producers to make Spiral. And that is SO MUCH WORSE. I like Jigsaw. Wish they'd continued the story. Fingers crossed they do in Saw X. Also you're right, they never mentioned the name of the city. In my head-canon, it's Gotham without a Batman.

I disagree, i think Spiral is far better than Jigsaw. It’s more creative and you can both see and feel the effort put into it. That little pig puppet was so damn cute, the visuals they used to make it look and feel just like another Saw film despite Kramer not being in it at all- but both movie’s character writing and casting are questionable. I prefer Spiral honestly because of how little they use CGI and the practicality of the traps. I just cannot get over how AWFUL that corn trap is, wtf was with t he CGI weapons?! WHY!!!

I think they're meant to be from the second game, and it's superimposed onto the original to confuse us... That's the only explanation for me 😭 I think they should've stuck with tapes to avoid that altogether

Not really a fan of this one. The Logan being a apprentice the whole time was not very believable and again it’s another twist ending with a secret apprentice which was done better in previous movies. Also the idea of the game not taking place at the time we thought was done much better in Saw 2, as well as the apprentice hiding in plain sight. But that’s just my opinion. Most of the traps in this movie aren’t that memorable either. I will admit that laser collar was pretty amazing though. I do like the smoother look of the film and honestly the twist that Anna killed her baby and blamed her husband was a better twist than Logan being an apprentice. And I did like the character of Elenor and the following that jigsaw had online, wish they would have explored more of that. Totally random subject change but have you ever watched A Quiet Place professor? I think you’d enjoy it and I’d be interested in seeing your reaction

Yeah agreed with all of the above, I really wanted to see the series delve into Jigsaw’s fanbase as well, kind of like Scream did with the second most recent movie, because that’s a cool concept! But alas, if Saw X is our final instalment and it’s set between Saw 1 and 2, we won’t ever get that concept outside of fanfiction 😞

When Logan says John thought he shouldn’t die because of an honest mistake he wasn’t referring to Logan’s mistake with the X-rays, he was referring to johns mistake with the anesthesia that almost killed Logan in the original game. Logan couldn’t have survived the game because of johns mistake, something that goes against johns rules

It's both. By John making the mistake with the drug dose, he recognized how easy it is to make mistakes and forgave Logan for his mistake. Logan was in the trap because John was angry at him for essentially accidentally killing him.

So with the needles. You can easily tell which is which without injecting one you know is the acid. Squirt a tiny bit out of each one onto your hand and whichever hurts is the acid. the other two have to be safe because one is saline (administered through iv often) and one is the antidote. bam nobody dies.

This one was the first one I watched, since I wasn't sure I would be able to stomach the main series and people were saying it was different from the other films (in terms of less practical effects with the gore) and I'm honestly glad I did it that way! I really enjoyed it so I chose to watch them all. Rewatched this one recently, and while I have several issues with it, I think it's a fun watch and gets dragged a bit too much. Not a fan of Spiral at all though :( Also the Anna twist was so good, then to be followed by the shotgun trap - my favourite - was awesome!

I feel the opposite! I think Spiral gets dragged too much and Jigsaw gets too much attention, Spiral really wasn’t that bad, but neither have any really likeable characters so I can’t get too invested in either

That's a shame. It highlights a core issue with John's games. He's not addressing the real issues. Anna was extremely likely suffering from postpartum psychosis. It's hugely stigmatized and moms don't get the help the need, sometimes resulting in infanticide like this. Not that I expect a horror movie to get that deep, but it doesn't help the stigma. It's terrible what she did, but randomly murdering her only punishes her. Her dead husband is still looked at as a negligent father. That was also never addressed.

Fun fact! to others who still don’t get it. Logan Nelson is the very first apprentice of Kramer. Yep. He’s not just another apprentice but the very first apprentice of Kramer himself. like Eleanor said The game was built 10 years ago which was before all the other saw movies. And Nelson seems to be the most manipulative and intelligent apprentice of Kramer. So in short this was basically the very first saw movie but since it’s now in the future where Kramer is dead. His first apprentice only helped him build his traps and not actually help him capture criminals… That makes him the very first apprentice of Kramer who made his move 10 years after the very first game Kramer built. Therefore it only comes out after several other saw movies. Compared to amanda, Nelson is more manipulative, Intelligent, and a very good trap maker.

I loved the time twist in this one and yes, the lady that killed the child and blamed her man, was so horrible (and yes, your assumption is correct). really enjoyed all your reactions to Saw series! Spiral is okay, could have been better imo.

I honestly liked this film, sure it has a couple of problems like flat screen TVs in early 2000s and Jigsaw predicting which guy would try the exit door but was still good and did enjoy on most recent rewatch of series, would put this above Saw 5 and Spiral and possibly 3

I genuinely would have loved this movie if they threw little hints here and there about Logan helping John throughout the series. The same way that it makes sense that John had a male accomplice and not just Amanda with being able to put these big men into these traps. And with Dr. Gordon there is the video in 2 where the guy in the robe had a limp, and some of the more surgical aspects of the games (key behind the eye, Eric Matthews foot)

It's just my opinion but this movie is really great! I think it justified the additional background essence of the whole franchise... IF THEY ONLY MADE IT LOOK LIKE IT REALLY HAPPENED BEFORE (cuz like the whole movie was set in a too modern tone, so really optimistic that they brought back the original mood in the upcoming Saw X)

I always say it would've made WAY more sense if Logan said, "John decided I shouldn't have to die...not because I made a mistake...but because I wasn't awake to hear his rules...thus would be breaking his own rules for the game...John is not a murderer...that would make him one."

Honestly i was happy for this movie. Bringing back john was stupid but also the only way to continue. I didn't care if the dead body was a twin, a space alien or if they straight up friday the thirteenthed him. Long before the end of the movie most people knew the twist and i think not bringing john back disappointed most people

Only thing that takes this movie down a notch for me is the timeline is weird. They say John’s been dead for 10 years, then Logan say that the games we see in the movie were 10 years ago, but that would mean these games would’ve had to take place around Saw 3, even though A. Jigsaw was bed ridden by that point and B. the trap Mitch was in was supposed to be from before even Saw 1? Like what? I like the movie, but that 10 years thing always just makes me let a disappointed “Oooh.”

John is dead for 8 years, John being dead for "like" 10 years is a generalization. The Bucket head game was between 10-11 years ago and is considered to be the first Trap. This is confirmed by screen writter at one point. There is a line that was meant to be read as "Almost a Decade"

@@Loki_Trickster I mean there’s a difference between a generalization like saying “he’s been dead for like ten years,” or “he’s been dead for almost a decade,” and Halloran verbatim saying “John Kramer’s dead and has been for 10 years.” Like he’s saying that as if it’s been _exactly_ ten years since Saw 3.

I really fuck with this. In theaters, I was SOLD that Jigsaw was still alive. Until act 3. Eleanor's a babe. Great story.

24:21 no one could, because everything about that supposed "game from 10 years ago" looks so modern, with those full HD flat screens and a Billy Puppet with glowing neon eyes. Jigsaw always used VHS-quality video tapes, that's not present in this movie. It's the only thing that makes me don't like this movie

The idea would be fun and silly in ANY other horror movie! But for a Saw sequel? A prequel, sort of? It’s so stupid and too modern and borderline impossible. The CGI sucks, too, and it sucks even more because it’s all I can ever remember about this movie. 3/10 ONLY for Tobin Bell actually reprising his role

This film has either a plot hole, a plot convenience, a plot coincidence, or mistakes in EVERY single scene! No doubt the worst Saw film in the franchise. Thank god they are not doing a sequel to this mess of a film. Many parts of the film (including twists) is either copied or rehashed taken from Saw II, Saw IV and Saw V - No freshness or anything new. Awful writing - 2/10.

Absolutely agreed, I cannot stand watching stupid movies without knowing they’re stupid. I can watch some TLC original movies for sure, I love hot garbage- but for a franchise so well thought out and written to have THIS many plot holes in a single film… WOW. I’d say a 3/10, and I’d give Spiral my graces with a 4.5/10, because they have similar issues in character writing and direction

Don't want to excuse her for what she did, but postpartum depression is a real thing and this happens more often than you think. I mean, that mothers kill their babies because of it. Edit: Among mothers suffering from postpartum psychosis, about 5% will attempt suicide and 4% will commit infanticide.

The only Saw movie I genuinely dislike. I hate the idea of Logan. Making him the first accomplice not only comes out of nowhere but completely ruins the uniqueness of Hoffman and Amanda. Also this movie is just a rip off of the twist of Saw 2 and Saw 4 but worse. With the game happening in the past.and the secret accomplice. The difference between Logan and Hoffman is that Hoffman showed up already in Saw 3 and the way he's framed once you rewatch is obvious that they are setting him up already as the bad guy in the next entries. And the modern TVs in something that happened 10 years ago is just ridiculous. I honestly wouldn't care about that if I would've liked the movie but I didn't, so... And the guy who played Logan... I'm sure it's more the director's fault than his but honestly the way he acts right at the end took me out of the movie completely. It's like he searched on Google "how to act like a psychopath". And Hello Zepp playing felt honestly like a parody. What an underwhelming unnecessary movie. Now you could say "well all the movies after 1 were unnecessary" But I disagree, they all set up stuff to path the way for more sequels (Amanda being in cahoots with John which plays into Saw 3, John swallowing the tape in Saw 3 which plays into Saw 4, Hoffman acting a little bit weird in 3 which plays into him being the other accomplice, the dude that fixes Michael's eye in the tape of Saw 2 limping... Even if Leigh Whannel and James Wan had no interest in continuing after Saw 3 these things were set up for sequels, therefore the sequels were necessary. Saw 7 didn't really set up much. It was the ending for many years until some brilliant suited douchebag wanted to continue. And chose to do it in the wrong way. Since you liked this you probably won't like Spiral but honestly if they're going to do anymore Saw movies taking place after Saw 7 they all should be like Spiral. Not this random secret apprentice that comes out of nowhere. Eithar that or follow the right path that Saw 10 with the story taking place between Saw 1 and 2. Seriously Saw executive producers, stick Logan in to your ass and either continue with Spiral's story or make movies that take place before Saw 3 so we can get Tobin Bell in all it's glory and not fucking flashbacks.

You know Leigh Whannell (the genius behind the original Saw trilogy) never intended for there to be more than three movies, right? The studio forced him to add references to potential later films, against his will, because they wanted to do more films without him. Everything after Saw 3, and some of the stuff IN Saw 3, is all retcons designed to make more money, with no regard for the creator's vision. Gordon was never supposed to come back - in fact, they almost couldn't convince the actor to do it. As for Spiral, that literally was not written as a Saw movie (which makes sense, because it reads like fanfiction). It was supposed to be an original film, and they were forced to make it a Saw movie - by the studio, who wanted to make more money. I love the Saw series, but it's not this carefully crafted masterpiece that you think it is. It is literally "Who is still alive in canon, that we can bring back, so we don't have to let this franchise end?" It's a cash cow and you're delusional if you think it's anything else. Nothing was being set up on purpose in those sequels. You just fell for their tricks.

@@LordofFullmetal I've never said it was Leigh's idea. But because of he nature of those references and how they were used, it makes way more sense and feels more natural than Logan. And honestly, if you think nothing was being set up youre the one being delusional. You can't seriously think that when Hoffman is so sketchy in his first appereance. Yes he's a reference to a producer who died but they way he behaves it's clear he's more than that. As for what you said about Spiral... The original script of Saw 2 wasn't a Saw movie either so what you say is pointless.

I absolutely feel the same way, Spiral was much better in my eyes despite having similar issues as Jigsaw. I mean really, how ridiculous is it that they forgot flat screens weren’t a thing in the early 2000’s? Why did they do that stupid glitchy editing thats so obviously not actual glitching? In Spiral, too?? John Kramer in Jigsaw is NOT my John Kramer.

Also I believe Saw X IS taking place between Saw 1 and 2!!! So we’re getting Jigsaw again! Actual John Cramer!!! No flashbacks, no “is he alive?” bullshit, really him and HOPEFULLY everything is time accurate, because I swear to god if I see another flatscreen in this new movie I’ll combust.
