My man! Awesome to hear dude. But don't forget, after Jigsaw/Saw VIII , there's the Chris Rock/Samuel L. Jackson spin-off film, Spyral, which was also a really good movie. I think the studio officially considers it to be Saw IX because the new Saw coming out soon is Saw X. So please do Spyral also.

Every time I watch these, I'm reminded of how much I love Tobin Bell
@FLQueerLiberal1982
@FLQueerLiberal1982 Жыл бұрын
That dude is a talented man. In fact, if either "Saw II" or "Saw III" had been less graphic, or more serious in an arthouse style, or perhaps a psychological thriller like "Silence of the Lambs", Tobin could've gotten an Oscar nomination for his performance as John Kramer/Jigsaw. It's sad how the Academy doesn't take horror seriously, generally speaking, because - and I'm not ashamed to say it - Matthew Lillard deserved an Oscar for playing Stu Macher in Scream. Honestly, that was a stunning performance. Just like Tobin in the Saw franchise. It's just sad that Tobin doesn't get really any recognition outside of Saw. He's mostly done low-budget, low-quality, low-rated horror films. The dude deserves serious dramatic work.

I'll give you that lillard's performance helped make scream memorable, but it was WAY over the top and hammy. though to be fair the academy awards is mostly about actors glad handing themselves. @@FLQueerLiberal1982

His test isn't NECESSARILY to actually save them, but rather to forgive them. He makes the attempt to save them, then he has passed that level of his test.
@lunard8690
@lunard8690 10 ай бұрын
actually his test was not to kill John, he could have just stood there and watched them die while eating popcorn and drinking ice cold pepsi and he would have been fine, he only lost when he killed Jigsaw, his test was not killing the elderly man in a hospital bed who avenged him of his suffering and made his wife a world famous surgeon, all he had to do was give John Kramer a hug and say thank you and he would have won
@FLQueerLiberal1982
@FLQueerLiberal1982 10 ай бұрын
@@lunard8690 but after the first test - the let's call her the Ice Princess - Amanda told John that he passed because he tried to save the Ice Princess. Eventually, after all three tests - even though he didn't do the last one in time, but he did do it, he did forgive - Amanda came to John and said he completed his final test, and so John instructed her to release Dr. Lynn Denlon, as per their original agreement: Lynn is to be released when Jeff completed all three of his tests. But of course Amanda doesn't, she shoots Lynn instead, Jeff comes in and shoots Amanda, at which time John reveals the truth to Amanda as she dies. THEN he addresses Jeff, telling him he can get an ambulance for Lynn in (I think he said) 45 seconds, and offers Jeff ONE LAST TEST: kill John or forgive John. That test to kill John or to forgive John was an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT test/game. Everything that came before it was its own separate test that he had to pass, and which he did. However, he f☆cked up the new game John offered him.

You're absolutely right. Kerry's death was absolute horseshxte. Kerry was the ONLY truly good cop on these cases, IMO, as seen in Saw II. She was THE ONLY ONE that tried to prevent Dxck Matth... uh, Detective Matthews from brutalizing Jigsaw.

My theory is Amanda lied or managed to convince John that Kerry needed to be tested when in reality she was just scared cause Kerry was a good dedicated cop and she didn’t want to get caught. I agree her death is total bullshit. This is total speculation but I feel like most of the characters from the first movie being killed off was Leigh Whannell’s way of saying he was done with the franchise. From my understanding he and Darren Lynn Bousmen weren’t planning on returning for Saw III but then producer Greg Hoffman died unexpectedly shortly after Saw II. James Wan, Leigh, and Darren got together for lunch one day and decided to do one last movie for Hoffman.

The answer to your question about why Kerry was target. Seems like she enjoyed her job too much and didn't have a life outside of the job. According to her tape, it said: " Up until now, you have spent your life among the dead... piecing together their final moments. You're good at this because you, like them... are also dead. Dead... on the inside. You identify more with a cold corpse than you do with a living human." Again, meaning that she works too much and seems to enjoy being around dead bodies instead of being around living folks. Of course, this is not even a bad thing. After all, we all have to make our living right? Gotta pay the bills right? But there was another reason. Kerry knew too much and was getting closer to figuring it all out. She basically had to go. That's why.

One of the few things that is never explained about the Saw Franchise is how Jigsaw knows so much about his subjects. I'm surprised nobody else questions it, perhaps you're more perceptive than the average viewer. I have my theories, and I'd like to think they'd be revealed in the next Saw movie coming later this year, cause it would be an insane twist to explain something unexplained since the very first movie.

Nah. Please don't stop watching them. People SAY "they start getting bad," however I think the complaint that people tend to have (from everything I've read) is that as the series progresses, it gets more brutal and graphic. That's true. But the main storyline of the of Jigsaw and his followers remain, with twists and turns, while each movie has a new main villain, or villains - that being the people in the traps. To me, most of them are the real villains. Mind you, not all of them are villains, i.e. the couple (the doctor and the grieving father) in this film. The villains in this movie are the other three people in the traps, and Amanda. Edit: oh, having now read your pinned comment, let me say I'm grateful and enthusiastic.

Here in Britain, all of the Saw films are rated 18 by the BBFC. But the first two films are close to the low end of the 18 category. The first film doesn't have much graphic violence, although there is considerable emphasis on the suffering of trap victims. I was so surprised by how little on-screen gore there was when I first watched it that I actually went and double-checked that it was definitely the Uncut Edition that I'd watched! (Which, by the way, it was.) Saw II has a bit more emphasis on blood, but still doesn't have much on-screen gore. Some people actually think that the first two Saw films could be rated 15 under current BBFC guidelines (although I personally think they'd still be rated 18, largely due to the emphasis placed on the suffering of trap victims). Saw III, and most of the later Saw films, however, have much more extreme violence that puts them more firmly in the 18 category.

Hey, Professor! Love your reactions! I'm just writing with a recommendation - you should really try watching/reacting to Sons of Anarchy (if you haven't already). It's like the Peaky Blinders of the 21st century. They have a lot in common. So much drama, family deep and old lies from the past that affect the present, brother love, Harley Davidsons (like the horses in Peaky Blinders), guns and murders...The plot is really big and complex and you should really pay a lot of attention to understand it correctly while watching. It is also undeniably interesting and well made at the same time - it always keeps you on the edge, I highly recommend!

This is where I left the series. I did see a few more sequels, but for me, this was where it ends. There are a few questions and the cliffhanger ending left, but I was okay letting 3 be the point where the franchise stops. It just gets way too convoluted and...well contrived from there. That said I kind of agree with your take on this one, but I find it gets better on repeat viewings, knowing that it's Amanda's test. It turns it into a character study movie about the fall of a villain's protege, which Shawnee Smith absolutely kills. The happenings around her arc are kind of, meh, but I love watching this one for her and Bell's interactions. She's pretty cool BTW. Saw her at a horror con a few years back and she was delightful to speak with.

Saw III is when the movies start declining a bit in quality for me but I still enjoy it. Credit to Saw III, basically the only movie that made a victim go through emotional torture rather than physical torture. The torture porn label these movies unfairly get kind of stuck more after this movie and I do sort of understand that but I don’t agree. There still is a story behind it but they definitely do up the brutality and gore with the future movies. Wish they could have found another way to shock the audience like with better twists or more interesting characters but I digress. I kind of like that they got away from the a group of people needs to escape from a dangerous area and replaced it with one person who becomes responsible for saving everyone else. Shame the other movies couldn’t seem to come up with another idea and just kept using that formula over and over. Edited to add: good job spotting Obi in the park during John’s flashback, I completely missed that the first time I watched it

In my personal opinion, I think you're making the right choice by not necessarily prioritizing the next films. This was the last one I really enjoyed, but like you found it to be the weakest of the first three (with the first one easily being the crown jewel of the series). Since this one felt a little "mid" to you, my guess is that you will probably be even less impressed with any of the future movies. Though don't get me wrong, I don't think they are the worst films ever or anything. They do tend to start focusing on shock/gore a bit more, and the storylines are definitely not as well put together as the first three - but they at least do try to be more than just torture porn and there IS a storyline that continues to connect the films, and there are actually a couple of interesting twists and developments. I'd still easily watch any of the Saw films before something like "Hostel" films (just a personal take obviously). So if you do decide to continue, and by all means if you're feeling it don't let my take interfere with your fun, there are some highlights to look forward to. But imo they are few and far between, and in general I think the franchise gets worse as it goes along. They are all better than your average "torture porn" movie/franchise, but that isn't a crazy high bar.

the entire motive that Jigsaw/John has is imo one of the dumbest of any horror villain I've ever seen honestly. "these people aren't appreciating life, so I'm going to make them suffer in the ultimate life or death test" and then the brain damaged idea of "it's not me killing people, it's the traps!" like bruh, not one sane person in human history would ever hear that and go "he makes a good point". I think the horror aspects of the movies are entertaining for the most part, and the first two were sorta iconic simply as a concept. but holy fuck, it would've been better if the character was just some weird sadistic killer, and avoided the circus of morality that this franchise uses for the story.
