Still coming back to this game, love the story, the chars, the gameplay, the hopeless mission... few games touched me like this one

The next game will be "Parasite Eve Kart"

So these video's just got longer as they went, but I promise all the preamble was necessary. I will be releasing a compilation of all 3 video's on monday as I did with fatal frame. Also, I did not play for 200 hours to get all the costumes. After I beat the game and unlocked 2 costumes I downloaded a bunch of cheats and messed around with the costumes on an older file. The joys of using an emulator for footage :)

While not perfect, I defintiely think this game looks like it has some charm all of it's own. Thanks for making this video and shining a spotlight on this hidden gem. I will definitely keep a lookout for it in retro hunting. Thanks for the upload!

Excellent work on this Tarks!! I never played this one, but your recap is exactly what I was looking for. Cracked me up with the revolver ocelot reference. I don't know why it's so hard for SE to have just followed the successful tried and true formula from the first one (or heck, I'd even accept the sequel). Trying to get to fancy and it all goes to hell. That camera control would drive me insane, though the mechanic of diving into enemies and teammates is.... Interesting and different.

The boss fights in this game are beyond obnoxious. Other than that the game's 10/10 breddy guud. One of the better action games on the PSP, a platform woefully inadequate for action games.

I also recall that the writers never really explain what the deal with the SWAT team in the church is. It's been a while since I played it but after the twist I was just kinda left going "soooo why did they kill all those folks in a church unprompted?" and I don't recall them ever saying...

This was one of my friend's more played PSP game. It had sort of an enigma to it, like a JRPG/Third Person Shooter on a PSP. Such an odd combo.

just finished this masterpiece today again and Im going to keep doing it. The psp hasnt died in my heart as long as I own one Edit: Game is not perfect, great game but limited because of the console, and with masterpiece I just got emotional cuz I love it. An actual masterpiece is MGS PW. So yeah

The whole fanservice part is mostly due to the clothes degradation system they used, just like how Marvelous/XSEED did for the Senran Kagura games: you lose more defense the more damaged the clothes are. Unlike SK though, you get different outfits that can really turn the tide of battles. Also, when you beat the game twice with the same file, you get an additional ending cutscene showing the REAL Aya wishing Happy Birthday to Eve, hinting that Kyle might have actually accomplished what he told Eve during the ending: bringing back Aya, which might also hint at a possible sequel should Square-Enix decide to do one someday. Also also, thanks to the digital version of the game being compatible with the PSVita, you can actually fix the annoying control scheme by just mapping the D-Pad's functions to the right joystick, thus making that platform the DEFINITIVE way to play the game... unless SE decide to remaster it on current-gen/next-gen consoles.

This was the first game that I played in the Parasite Eve Trilogy. Even though I knew about the series prior, I've only ever watched my brothers play the previous two games. The gameplay in 3rd Birthday was fun, but the story, not so much (that voice acting lol). I really need to get around to playing the other two PE games, especially the first.

This one's the only game in the series I've played and the only one I ever care to. I'd consider it easily one of the best PSP games and is also one of the very few third person shooters to have ever done anything new or interesting. Despite not being a fan of shooters in general, the game was balanced well enough that I never had any issues with the gameplay (something Western shooters get spectacularly wrong in almost every game). And the out-there plot, setting, and tone really make the game feel unique. A slow, clunky PS1 RPG with horror elements (a genre I can't stomach) over an innovative fast-paced well-balanced third-person shooter isn't a choice I'd personally ever make, even as a JRPG fan. Parasite Eve is just one of those series that was remembered a lot better than it actually was. SE knew this but other people still haven't really come to terms.

You can definitely capture PSP footage directly. Doesn't your PSP have a video out port? Mine does. Like most consoles I bought, I got mine well after the console was current, so I got the newest model I could easily find. Mine is a Japanese 3000 model. I bought a $30 HDMI cord for it and now it can play PSP on my TV like any home console, plus I can stream it. Directly off the UMDs!

i know this isn't the real parasite eve 3, i kinda love this game lol i love how short it is and how it has a bunch of difficulties, and how many costumes there are, i love changing costumes every playthrough, it reminds me of bullet witch and i loved playing that on different difficulties too with different costumes, why i dont mind the costumes? it reminds me of the weird costumes you get in the resident evil games lol, anyways i love this game, especially on the ps tv, story sucks though XD

I think one of the main problems about the Plot, similar to some other games, is that they put some of it away into files, to be fair, as The Third Birthday wasn’t made to be a PSP game in the first place and was expected to be an average 1-3 hour game without upgraded guns and such. Further more with a deadline to release the game, perhaps other operations, missions, and other expanded gameplay could’ve been added like The Dead March, fighting in other babels. On the other hand it would mean square enix would have to add new enemies almost every 3 chapters nonstop unless it wished to repeat the same enemies. On the other hand, the story characters even though you may not know them, or they don’t talk much, them dying really made me question what was happening, did I kill them? I never had a problem with controlling Aya or my weapons, especially the machine guns which don’t automatically aim. In my summary, if this game was rebooted or expanded, they could add more of the story into the game to before and after the Babel, explore other incidents and operations. Expand more on each characters individual story and how it relates to the CTI. This is an amazing summary though! I play the game on PSP still to this day and I have seen a lot of hate from other larger channels because of the sexualization and the non parasite eve thing and Aya Dying. However at the end, you can realize she probably hasn’t died, I never thought about her being sexualized for years until recently, and I have never played Parasite Eve’s other games. I do like Maeda, I don’t find him perverted in the sense as he is into Aya because she is hot, but rather like Hyde Bohr to Eve, he finds her as a specimen to be studied on, he is obsessed with the Twisted, High Ones, and Aya’s abilities. Overall loved the game!

All this talk about fan service and you didn't even bring up the shower scene which in all honesty is one of the most beautiful sounding and beautiful cgi shower scenes I've seen in gaming. I've played this game quite extensively but I need to start over because while trying the harder difficulties I put myself into a position where I'm stuck and not properly leveled. I actually got my enjoyment out of the game, but parasite eve 1 is still my favourite in the series. The game has a reputation of being debated between fans but for what was made showed a certain level of competency and I'll be grateful for that. It may not have ended the series that fans would of liked to see but at least its an ending and sometimes some game series don't even get that.

I think the reason why it wasn’t called Parasite Eve 3 was also because I think at the time of the game’s release Square Enix lost the rights for making games with the Parasite Eve name as the games are a sequel to the movie and book that came out in Japan and even have characters and references to the movie and book. But even though they lost the license they could still use characters like Aya Brea since she was an original character made by them and didn’t come from past material. Also since the game didn’t perform too well I don’t think Square Enix has any plans to bring the series back anytime soon as an HD collection for the Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.

Well no the naming was due to Square losing the rights to the Parasite Eve license, but since barely any characters came for the books they managed to make the game with out needing to renew the license. Aya is diving back in time either way the soldiers would've died, and in fact you get bonuses based of how money people you save, including soldiers.

During that time I believe it was a pretty cool game. Great graphics and good gameplay although it's really hard to play it on PSP because there's no right analog stick for the camera view. For me the fan service is fine. But the story is really confusing. I did play it 3 times to fully understand the story. Anyway such a nice nostalgia. Really love it and playing it again.

Some of the costumes are out of place in a game like this, but wouldn't you agree that clothing getting torn in battles with monsters is actually More serious and realistic?

This game is really awesome. And it keeps the essence of original episodes. EDIT: Japaneses are more open-minded on nudity (not sexuality). So it's good idea! The objectif of a video game is "fun", no being "serious" or "realistic".

Even tho I played next generation game like call of duty etc etc 3rd birthday is pretty good even tho u can get it on a droid ofc it's a bit changed method u have to download psp application then again u have to download compleate game sapretly

I have this game on my psp, and im lucky that its still alive until now, i stop playing since 2014, Im very busy at school and i have no time to play with it. Ps: I'm not yet playing the hard mode and Normal mode! I don't want to see the soldiers die. 😂

I saw a review on Classic Game Room, bought the game and loved it from the beginning to the end. Sound effects, music, gameplay, graphics is awesome. I beat the game twice so far but I didn’t play much the original games (but I want to since I learned that it was a playground to learn and experiment for FFVIII). It’s really strange that wherever I look I see negative opinion about it :( Since I didn’t play the PS1 games I thought I would not understand the story but I didn’t expect a clusterfuck like this. It seems Tabata is cursed with games with shitty story telling.

I'd love for this game to get a console port like a lot of the other games on PSP. It seems fun from what I played too. As for Aya. I can see it as insulting but at the same time it seems to be a bit better than how Other M handled it. Man moe really is dumb and stupid. And I don't find it cute in the slightest but thats another comment for another time.

I would be happy with a remake of 1 or 2, or a 4th installment, using Tomb Raider combat or FF7 Remake combat. Just... no convoluted plots...

The true problem with PE is... Square loses the Writer Rights... so It can't continue the original history of the mitochondria plot. OUT of that PE3B-day. IS REALLY FUN AND HARD.

Man i wish they had made it for ps3. Although I get why. The game is kinda jank in parts which is more tolerable in lower budget handheld game. Altho it's still a high budget but much lower than what it would need to be a PS3 title. But i did really enjoy my playthrough i thought the combat was really fun. And alot of the cutscenes were cool.

Square lost the rights to "Parasite Eve" (the novel) that PE1 was loosely based on. That's the reason for the branding not to welcome new players 🤣 I wish It'd been that simple... that's why the story doesn't mention the previous installments.

Also I think you are talking some stuff that arent true that for example, the lib bar isnt hard to fill once you know how and which weapons, it's a skill based game bro that has a lot of possibilities

The 3rd Birthday is a really fun game, with mechanically engaging gameplay, and a confusing story. The game is also actually quite scary.

You can really see how japanese developers learned from this and Metroid: Other M's poor treatment of female protagonists in the years since.

Primal Eyes on PE1 is a masterpiece. Thirs birthdays version is trash

WTF with the time travel shenanigan??! Parasite Eve 1 is all about cells in our body mutating in bizarre way! Just Imagine Resident Evil then by Resident Evil 10 there is a time travel plot! This is just BAD story!

The clothing destruction is literally the one and only good thing about this steaming pile of shit of a game. And the bonus shower. I don't see why people make such a big issue out of it, it happen very slow and so clothings can be fixed very easily before a major exposure of the protagonist.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. The biggest failing of this game and personal annoyance There is not 1 time they mention the mitochondria the Whole horror aspect to me was there is a part of your very being that can undo you in horrible ways and steal your body without so much as a fight. That's some scary shit in my option this game lacked any actual fear. and the enemies felt very similar in ways the first game didn't. it says something when a remake of the first game would become the best entry in the series

This game was a clusterfuck storywise I think because of Tetsuya Normura. And even I didnt like the outfits. Also, the tearing of the clothes was dumb as hell. And while the remixed soundtrack in the 3rd Birthday is good I like Parasite Eve 1's soundtrack waaaaay better.

I was wondering, the loss of clothing in this game, did it genuinely leave a bad taste in peoples mouth? Did it cause you to view the women around tyou in a different light. Did it make it easier for you to dismiss the thoughts and feelings of women around you having viewed it. Did it make you realize that your culture is right and correct and the Japanese culture that created this to be backwards and ignorant? How did a goofy display of damage resulting in less clothing make you feel? Were you aroused, embarrassed, ashamed? Seriously how did it genuinely affect you and affect the way you viewed women after seeing something like this?

Shouldve be as PE2 with updated graphics etc.... 3rd birthday ruined the franchise

I wasn't a fan of the series. Played this title only because I've got psp and I've still hated it. Main character was weak and shallow, writing and dialogues was a poor cringe and I didn't like this long levels with bullet sponge enemies

I hated this game. The first game while slow, is easily 8/10. Second game I give 9/10. This game is a far distant 4/10. Just straight bad.

*sigh*....this game is an insult to not only fans but women in general. They took what could've been a great series and took a massive dump all over it. The sucky part about it all is that I can't completely hate The 3rd Birthday, but the only things I liked about the game were the soundtrack, graphics, and gameplay. Still as a fan this game breaks my heart. They took a strong and admirable character like Aya Brea and made her into a crybaby who can't keep her clothes on to save her life, and the voice acting and dialogue are a FUCKING JOKE. You were so much kinder to this game than I think it deserves. I felt that everything that made PE1 so memorable and appealing had melted away by the time of PE3. The story stinks of the same kind of needless convoluted bloating that one would normally recognize as being a trademark of Nomuras'. Interesting that he 's listed as a "Creative Producer" on this game, in addition to his tired, old-hat, brute-force sex appeal character designs. Gone are the quiet, thoughtful, introspective moments of PE1 and its' accompanying exploration segments, and in their place, a bland, lifeless (though surprisingly functional) 3PS. I played through this game twice and cannot for the life of me remember a single thing about its' set pieces, or where the story took me, save for not enjoying or understanding very much of it. PE1, on the other hand, was nothing but memorable. Its' version of NYC felt wholly unique, and just radiated that same creepy ambience that permeated the Forgotten Capital in FFVII a year earlier. I know that PE1 wasn't exactly a masterpiece, but it oozed class and sophistication from every groove on its' two discs. Despite its' faults, it never felt like a goddamn chore to work through, and I never felt bad playing it. By contrast, PE3 was basically a suppository I had to jam up my PSP's asshole that we both had to suffer through. I'll be happy to see this series die if it means we won't get another abortion like it.
