Nice man. My OEM skid plate got soooo tore up from being lowered! Each time I hit something I was always scared to look under the car. This looks perfect and much better 👍

So I've got a JDM sti skid plate on my 2017 wrx and it rattles a lot cause it has one mounting point that doesn't attach to anything. Does this rattle at all? Might switch. I do like that mine has covered sides though.

Nope, it doesn’t rattle at all. I recently cut up the OEM plastic under tray into two separate pieces and I was able to use them to cover the sides.

Is that a normal ramp or one for a lowered car I’m not sure if I can use the one I got home I don’t wanna try it because it looks like mine won’t work

It’s a normal ramp (rhino ramps). I use 2x4s to give the car a small lift before actually getting up on the ramps.

It’s a cool concept, but it leaves too much open on the sides. I’d be worried about the elements getting in there, especially running a cai. Can you cut and replace some of the siding?

This! It was my only gripe about it. The STI version looks like it has coverage so I’m not sure why the WRX version doesn’t. I thought about cutting the plastic like you mentioned but I might look into getting some custom pieces made instead.

Nearly a year later: How is the skid plate holding up? Did you ever find a solution for the opening on the sides? If you didn't cover those gaps, have you had any issues with dirt, water, debris?

Hey man. Skid plate is holding up pretty well! I said screw it and left the sides open. I’ve gone through several heavy storms and surprisingly no issues with water. The only gripe I have is more dirt in and around the engine bay but it was to be expected. Overall, I’m pretty happy with it and I’d buy it again.

How is the temperature for the engine during summer with the skid plate?

I honestly don’t notice any difference in temperature. I imagine it being a little cooler because the sides are exposed.

@@091520c all straight from the AP. I only recently started monitoring the intake manifold temps for the summer months.

Hey, from tbw, there is a 3 different sizes of skid plate. Regular, +50% and double the thickness versions. Which one did you get on your car? Would you have considered getting a thicker one if you got the regular?

Wow, there were no other options when I bought mine so I’m assuming I got the regular one. That’s awesome! It held up fine for what I needed. If available back then, I’d probably get the 50% thicker version just for that piece of mind.

why not cut the side pieces from the plastic OE shield in such a way that they can be mounted to the new metal shield so that you retain splash protection from the front wheels?? Obviously the plastic OE shield is not going back on so cutting it up isn't a huge loss in retrospect. Rivets, nut/bolt, 3M tape/zip ties, or any combination of the three can secure the vertical side pieces to the metal skid plate. You've gone this far, why not just a tad further and be innovative (at least with this skid plate)

Oh yeah, I did exactly this when I had the car. Cut up the OE shield and secured the two pieces onto the shield. Worked perfectly fine. Didn’t bother filming it.

Does it keep the intake from water when it rains?

This was one of my main concerns. I’ve driven through heavy rain and the intake has been fine. I believe it’s far enough to where water won’t get to it.

You still have your stock skid plate and willing to part with it? Some dumb ass in a truck didn't secure a aluminum ladder that fell out going 65 and my skid plate took the hit and all bent up. All id need is the plate not the aluminum rails. LMK

Dang, sorry to hear that! Luckily it doesn’t sound like there’s any other damage. I’m going to hold onto the stock one in case I ever go back to stock.
