Technical Boeing 737-800 Pushback

This very technical pushback of a Boeing 737-800 at the Sky Harbor Airport is tight up against the terminal and required a some fancy-maneuvering :).
This push back was more difficult as the Boeing 737-800 is parked right up against the terminal, requiring care to not clip the wing when backing out and requiring an "s-maneuver" to put the plane in a position to be able to be pulled out into the taxi way.
3:15 All clear given to pilots to start engines
3:30 Engines start
4:00 Disconnect pilot coms and towbar

We had a gate like that at MCO. There was a passenger tram very close to your left and a pond directly in front of you. It was always fun trying to get an A321 out of that alley. That red line seemed awfully close sometimes

Yeah ATC ground tells the plane exactly where to go if they have Letters or Numbers assigned for pushbacks so that's why. All airports are different in that sense and where the gate is located.

@@ladyandtheramp I was working on the America West ramp June 26, 1990. 122 degrees in the shade! Everything was delayed for hours because the aircraft performance charts didn't cover temps that high. Not only that, the asphalt was so gooey that our tugs kept getting stuck. 🥵

So for pushbacks, it is variable. You have to show proficiency on mostly all the gates. It depends on when you go through the training. (At the beginning of your employment, when you are still “in training” as s new hire. Versus you have been hired for a while and they have to take you off your “bidded line”. So removing you from your work group to train). But I pushed a ton (50 plus times) while I was in my new hire training. In about a 50-60 day period.

very nice technical pushback here. not much room around you there, for people like us who never done this, I think we would lock up trying to maneuver around a Boeing plane around in tight spaces, but that is why practice, practice, practice makes perfection. Even if you can do this with your eyes closed lol, not saying you should lol but even with many hours of practice, training, still always good to get extra training. Keep up the great work and post videos when you can. And the pilot just watching like, no sweat lol also just curious, at the end, did the guy have an issue locking up that little door there?
@ladyandtheramp
@ladyandtheramp 4 ай бұрын
Yes! You are correct…he was having trouble. There are 3 latches on the panel door he has to close. The one latch wax not closing. I am glad he got it closed. Or else we would of had to pull it back into the gate and call aircraft maintenance:)

@@ladyandtheramp Thank you for taking time to reply back. I was going to ask if he could not closed he panel door, would they have to shut down the flight and everyone would have to go back inside the airport or just sit on the plane until the maintenance crew came out and fixed it? always cool to know these things from a fan viewing these videos. you are awesome.
@ladyandtheramp
@ladyandtheramp 4 ай бұрын
If he couldn’t get it closed. We would would notify the the aircraft mechanics immediately. While still hooked to the aircraft. We would also notify the pilot, so they stay in the loop of what is going on and can relay, if they feel that is needed, to the passengers. Typically the aircraft would be pulled back into the gate. And hopefully not have to de-plane any passengers. As this would be high priority for the mechanics to try and get it fixed asap.
