That was skill. EDIT: I "got" what the reporter was saying, and what the reporter was saying, is wrong. The pilot 100% landed the plane on the highway with intent. For the reporter to say it was "almost" as though if it were on purpose is an insult to the pilot.

Most 18 yr olds can't handle a car that well in a crisis, let alone a plane! He's incredibly gifted with his talent for flying!

At 18 he's an adult, and if he was hauling a banner he was flying commercially. That's an adult doing an adult job that requires a lot flying and training to get there. Give the man his due credit.

"The pilot? Only 18 years old!" Uncommon, but not unheard of. 18 year olds can be very skilled and competent pilots. Many that flew U.S. aircraft in WWI and WWII could be pretty young. Doesn't mean they aren't skilled enough to fly. "He was the only one on board." Not uncommon for a banner plane. It's a small aircraft, all you're doing is flying a banner around. There isn't always a need for a co-pilot if the person flying is skilled enough. Seeing as how he knew exactly what to do in the situation, and managed to safely land an aircraft on a small causeway bridge within a gap of traffic? Seems skilled to me. It's not like the engine failure was his fault. Just because he's young doesn't mean he isn't a good pilot. "It's almost like it was landed there purposefully!" Well, it's not like he landed it there safely by ACCIDENT? Sure, the plane isn't supposed to be on a bridge. But he made the decision to land there because of an engine failure. He didn't just plop it down, get out and say, 'Whoops! Didn't mean to.' with no issues with the aircraft whatsoever. People sometimes...

The day before this happened, I was doing my flight simulator and landed on this exact bridge, and thought "how crazy would it be if someone actually landed here irl" and the next day it happened.

I'm proud of this young man for his courage and bravery. I'm happy he is safe.

I’m not even kidding I literally saw this kid flying the plane earlier today on my way home from wildwood. I remember seeing and and thinking to myself “dang he looks pretty low but I guess he knows what he’s doing” 😂

Ha, had a friend who did the same thing on the highway in Atlanta. Don’t know exactly what was wrong with his plane but the fact that people can do this and feel comfortable doing something like that just shows their excellent pilot skills

To all those talking about his age. The minimum age to hold a flight certificate is 16 in the US so you can actually be a pilot before you can legally drive here. Chances are that he has been flying for a few years and was pretty well aware of what he was doing in the emergency because this kind of landing is something that only comes from experience. Most people posting on here can't even drive their cars let alone do what this kid did.

Seconds make the difference of life and death. Having the aptitude to pull this off, not just physically putting it down but also to remain calm, make that life Saving split second decision is amazing.

Landing in a highway bridge is much better than landing in the water that gives more impact. So salute for that guy. Edit: also its much better than he keep going and might have a serious engine trouble and crashed.

They will talk to literally everyone except someone who knows what they're talking about. Nothing from the pilot, police, or other pilots except the bare minimum of facts. He safely landed in an emergency and managed to do so without damaging himself, anyone else, any cars, or the plane. Saved the plane by not ditching. This is literally the best of a bad situation. And she says "He landed like he belonged there". What insight.
