The teachers were absolutely amazing, too, don’t get me wrong. But I wanted to highlight his amazing work. I hope that one day I can be as good a father as he is, and as good a grandfather as he is.

people keep saying that she “didn’t know her mum” even if she was younger and doesn’t rlly remember her it’s still the same pain, all her friends will have mums, she can’t celebrate mother’s day and she’s not had a mother figure for her.
@daisyx0558
@daisyx0558 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Like it doesn't matter if she can't remember her, it's still the same amount of pain. Her mother has most likely been there for that most part of her life and a mother is really essential in a child's life. She will now never have that mother figure or a parent figure apart from her grandad and maybe grandma?? (Idk if there is a grandma in the picture.) But that's really sad. It's so sad when children lose parents because they feel so alone and isolated. Really sad.

Don't forget the rest of the class who are not getting the teacher's attention because Cody is demanding so much attention for herself. This puts the teaching staff in a difficult situation and puts additional time pressures on the staff. Cody's attitude impacts the whole of the class. She clearly has issues but so will others in the class who will have less time devoted to them because of Cody. Teacher's are not social workers but are expected to respond as both teachers, social workers and surrogate parents without additional time or pay given to allow them to do this. She has been helped enormously to achieve but I wonder how many of her more well- behaved classmates have had their educational success impacted negatively because of the time spent in and out of class because of Cody's behaviour and requirement for extra attention. I wish Cody well for turning herself around but she needs to remember the impact her behaviour has had on others too.

My school knew I was struggling with my mental health and my anorexia as my mum was informing them. It wasn’t until I was on deaths bed that they called a meeting and talked to about it. And then they sent me to hospital. Schools need to intervene more and understand the amount of stress and anxiety they put on their students.

They can't intervene. I've got a friend who's a teacher. And her work never ends. She has troubled kids, kids with behavioural issues, the standard one and very intelligent kids in her class. That's 3 different lesson plans and doesn't include the 2 special needs kids she has. So where do the teachers find time? They don't have any. Where do the schools find funding? Well it has to come from the government, because there's a lot of people who can't even afford the donation. Mental health is getting funded stripped from them every budget. And when they do eventually start funding it, it goes to acute services, because the system crumbling, its all just bandaids over bullet wounds. They'll never fund the primary intervention services like they deserve.

This episode hits hard. I lost my mum to cancer at 15, but also dealt with her having cancer the first time when I was 3. Both times, my maternal grandparents came over to look after me and my sister whilst my dad supported mum and worked. It was so difficult for my grandparents having to help raise their grandchildren whilst their youngest daughter was sick and then later dying. I didn't react the same way kodie did to the situation, but I'd be lying if I didn't relate to her struggles.

I''m very impressed by this school's mental health services. When I used to self-harm at her age, I never said a single word. I had a counselor that my school (thankfully) got me in touch with that I could talk to in my lunch breaks privately but they would pass on information to the head teachers but nothing was ever done. I never improved, my counselor from the NHS didn't take me seriously, the school nurse mocked me and I was never given the benefit of the doubt. This girl is a lot luckier than a lot of children but things still need to change in my opinion. It infuriates me that school boards do nothing really to support the mental health of particular students. I hope she is in a better place today and is happy.

I self harmed when I was 12 and I wish my school had been this supportive. It was like “ah well, don’t do it again, off you pop.” And the issue never went away. I only got support when I had my TB jab and one of the nurses noticed and said “you can get help for this, ya know, do you want me to get in touch with one of my colleagues who can come to the school and you can have a chat with her every week?” No judgement, gave me the option whether I said yes or no. If that hadn’t happened I’d have been in a much worse position than I’m in now, where I’m still having the occasional trouble with self harm every few years or so but I know the coping mechanisms that will help. It was so valuable and it’s the most important thing that happened to me when I was a teenager, so I’m really glad to see that there are schools who are so empathetic and want to help their pupils rather than brush it under the carpet.
