I think the benefit is being able to utilize the vibrations for the majority of the time spent brushing. At the end of the 2 minutes, a good 20-30 seconds of manual brushing is a means of reducing gum erosion were you to manually brush the entire time.

I use both. I’ve had a sonic for maybe 20 yrs. I also felt it missed a lot because the timer worked for the 4 teeth quadrants, so I’ve always used a manual toothbrush after for the middle or top of my back teeth then I brush my tongue and gums as well.

I used an Oral-B for years. I had some small plaque buildup on my Lower bottom teeth. When the oral-b needed to be replaced I bought a Sonicare. Within 7 days the plaque on my lower teeth was gone. Proof is in the pudding. Sonicare for me.

Moral of the story...brush twice a day and floss once a day. As long as your doing that as well as your twice a year check ups youll be good to go. Im 37 and wish I took my teeth health more seriously in my twenties cause thats when I was partying alot not brushing enough or eating late and not brushing before bed. Never really became anxious about my teeth until now. Take care of your teeth people. With that said I have the Oral B iO Series 6.

My first Oral B round head instruction was to use a U-shape path for each tooth: one side, the gum line, the other side. It had a 30-second vibration for each section. Newer models skip instructions.

My dentist 20 years ago hooked me on the Rotodent electric toothbrush. I loved it! It came with optional brush heads. It allowed me to clean my teeth well and deep. However, that company got bought out many years back. The product kept changing and prices got out of hand. I am back to manual brushing. For the most part my dental health has been ok with manual brushing, however, due to the pandemic I have not had a cleaning or check up in a couple of years. Your video motived me to schedule an appointment with my dentist. Thanks!

Hi y’all :) If anyone is considering going from regular toothbrush to electric, DO IT! I picked up the Oral-B Pro 2 2500 a few months ago, and it’s honestly insane how great electric is! Regular is also great, but the rotations on electric are far more than a human could do. And it also helps for days/nights where you’re a little lazy to brush and the toothbrush does all the work for you. That’s the big thing with electric, it’s consistent because it doesn’t get lazy/tired😂 Thank u Whitney for convincing me to go electric a few months ago :) have a good one y’all! P.S. I’m not a dentist or DH, just my opinion :D

Having taller teeth has been a big issue with the oral-b to me so I'm considering trying out the philips as it seems to have a better design for that. This is the first video I've heard that aspect mentioned which is weird cause there won't be a one-size-fits all teeth when people have such different shapes. Have you tried the philips for your 'taller' teeth and how was the experience?

I just bought my first electric toothbrush called UUA. Assuming it is made in China, but it is pretty high quality and was only $25. Came with 6 brush heads, 3 modes and built in timer that stops every 30 seconds so you know when to switch the areas you're brushing. I love it! But I was confused if the sonic vibrations were actually effective (my mouth surely feels was cleaner now that I'm using it!).. your video helped explain a lot! Cheers!

Thanks for the video! Lot of great info. There was a similar video posted by Baseline Dental that reccomended brushing slightly with the slow movement. He showed the before and after of how much plaque was removed when brushing slightly vs just gliding. Could you speak to that at all? His video should be easy to find with a search. Would be great to have another opinion, I know you specifically said not to, but his video seemed to have some research behind it.

I’m pretty new to the channel. I came across it just doing some searches around flossing tips and tricks. I have been a reliable 2x a day brusher, but regular flossing was a new world to me. I have become really motivated to dedicate myself to my dental health going forward. I recently had my first dental appointment in an embarrassingly long time. In my reading online I saw that electric brushes were basically universally said to be better to manual. I had an electric brush in the past. But, for some reason I can’t recall (probably the price of replacement heads), switched back to manual. Anyway, at my recent dental appointment I asked the hygienist what electric brush she would suggest. She said, “Anything Sonicare.” So, when I got home I purchased a Sonicare 4100 (as well as a Waterpik Water Flosser [something else I owned in the past, but no longer used {this time because it crapped out on me after water kept getting into the battery area}]). I can definitely tell a difference with the electric brush (though, not so scientific as I’ve also incorporated the Waterpik and string flossing, too).

As somebody with an Oral B IO… I’m strongly considering switching to sonicare. Simply because of how dirty the Oral B gets… despite me thoroughly cleaning it after every brush, it builds up gunk due to the holes in the brush head which brings it into the body. It probably doesn’t have an effect on health, but smacking the toothbrush on my sink and seeing dirt fall out is not very fun

I use the Oral B Pro 1000. Picked it up for about 50 bucks. Won't go back to manual toothbrushes unless I'm in a jam. The brush heads can be a bit pricey but tbh you kinda get what you pay for. I bought a pack of Walmart brand toothbrush heads that said "compare to ---" but they were terrible. They work well for a couple weeks but then they seem to lose their oscillation. As in, they don't spin very well. I felt like I wasn't getting the job done, so I splurge and get the Oral B brand OEM heads. What's the saying? "Invest in yourself"?

Are elec toothbrushes bad for fillings? I just recently got composite fillings on my lower teeth a few weeks ago due to abfractions at the gumline and I worry about using the new Elec TB I recently purchased. I use a soft head and the gentle mode option but I don't want to loosen or damage the fillings. Also, is it bad to chew gum with fillings? I usually chew ADA approved "Ice Cube" brand gum after meals.

I've spent more on my teeth than any possession I have. I've got root canals, crowns, fillings. I tried a cheap brush just to see if I like it and I'm hooked and want to upgrade. If the sonic types mean ultrasonic it kind of worries me. I used to work at a place that used ultrasonic baths to clean jewelry, so I'm concerned the high vibration may shake something loose. Anyway still researching. They're not cheap and the selection is poor where I am, 50-250 bucks.

Electric toothbrushes are great. I wish I had the same kick in the pants for dental hygiene when I was younger but such is life. I am more on top of things when it comes to my kids and grandkids dental health because my parents just weren't educated or interested in it at all. (I can say that thankfully receiving dental care on a regular basis was a thing, but the dentist and the hygienist just assumed they knew what they were doing AND that they would know how to give their kids directions.)

I’m in the same boat to some extent. I had some random tarter build up break off behind my front bottom tooth and at first I thought my tooth had come off due to decay, to which I later found out from the internet that it was plaque build up and that my gums aren’t in a good condition. I started watching teeth talk girl and now I have an electric toothbrush, a water flosser, anti cavity toothpaste, alcohol free fluoride mouthwash and now know the correct way to brush and floss. I use both. My Sonicare toothbrush cleans my teeth quicker, but seems too big to get each tooth thoroughly. It's easier to get each individual tooth with the Oral-B toothbrush. Just in case I miss a spot with the Sonicare, I know I'll be able to thoroughly get that spot with the Oral-B before bed. I'm usually in a rush before work, which is why I prefer using the Sonicare before work. That's just my preference. Each one has its benefits.

If the con of a Sonicare type of brush head is its size, then get the DiamondClean heads (they also come in compact size), they are smaller than most Oral-B round brush heads, and they brush better due to the way they move using Sonic technology! It was invented by David Giuliani who also invented the Clarisonic, so he knows a thing or two about rotating and oscillating brush heads, yet the sweeping, back and forth motion was the one to go for electronic toothbrushes. So yeah, Sonicare is simply superior to Oral-B!

Okay, so, if you have (tons) of fillings and teeth restorations, which one do you think would be safer--the Sonicare or the Oral-B? Basically, I'm worried about damaging or loosening any of the previous teeth restoration work that I've had done, which was quite a bit. I bought the Sonicare, but I'm thinking the Oral-B might be safer. Really not sure?

My favorite toothbrush system that which has the round osilating heads and is a sonic toothbrush, is the Cyber Sonic system, that which has been around for just over 30 years! I had the first model, The Cyber sonic II and that when I go back to work and make money again, I will get their most latest up to date model, that which is the Cyber sonic III! Right now, I'm trying out the Oral-B, that which has a spinning brush head, but I don't think is a sonic tooth brush.

I have Oral B and Phillip's Sonicare (received both in Hygiene school), By far, Sonicare get's my vote! The handle is much slimmer/head is smaller than Oral B and really helps me reach the max 2nd distals, and the handle doesn't have the holes in it that Oral B does, which causes tooth paste and spit to run down my chin...yuck!!! Also, the charge life of the Sonicare is MUCH longer! It's hard, because the office I work in recommends the Oral B, and I try to keep with that but I just love, love, LOVE Sonicare...should probably be a rep for them...

Something not mentioned here is that it seems all the new models have non replace-able batteries. This is a terrible idea for something that invariably will wind up needing that replaced in 2-3 years. I have an older Sonic Care that takes 2 aa batteries, it's powerful, it works fantastic and it's STILL in service 15 years later! I've had pricier ones with rechargeables built in that only made it one year. Manufacturer's need to be called out on this disservice.

Electric is the way to go. I had an oscillating Oral-B that's lasted 7 years, but finally switched to a Suri (sonic) due to its compact size. It seems that sonic ones can be much more compact versus oscillating, I just hope I like how they clean.

How do you like it? I bought both a sonicare and an oral b to try them both and they leave my mouth feeling about the same but the oral b is noticeably more intense. I’m leaning more toward the oral b

I'd say the oral B does seem more intense, whether that's a good or bad thing. It feels like it cleans more but I don't know for sure. Also the Suri (sonic) has a bigger brush head so it makes me gag more than the Oral B.

I'm using the Oral B Genius X toothbrush and the gamification with the bluetooth connection has really helped me to stay more consistant on my oral care. I have quite severe ADHD and a few disorders as a result of going untreated until my late twenties and one thing I always struggled with was consistant self-care and hygiene. (Gross, I know. I've worked it out since and don't need other people to shame me, because I've already spent enough time doing that myself.) Gameifying any routine has been a great tool for me to make me do things that I tend to skip for some reason or another. The Oral B App gives you achievements, long term goals and a (somewhat accurate) position sensor, to make sure you've brushed everywhere, while the Genius X has a pressure sensor and a few different modes depending on your personal needs. I also prefer the round brush heads because I have my 3rd molars in all 4 quadrants and getting the upper ones on the outside is basically impossible for me with a traditional brush head. The brush is also the highest rated oscillating model by "Stiftung Warentest" - an independent rating agency here in Germany that tests all kinds of products and provides their unbiased results for a very small fee - which definitely influenced my decision on which toothbrush I want to buy. Of course, in the end everything but the oscillating head and the pressure sensor is a gimmick and I'll have to wait two months until my next cleaning appointment to see whether switching to an electric brush has taken my oral care to the next level, but I feel good about the changed that using this brush has made in my routine.

@@trix4487 actually, yes, thank you for asking. 🙂I was having professional cleanings every four months due to tartar build-up, but my hygienist agreed that my dental hygiene has improved so much that we can try to go for 6 months instead. @beardiemom that's great news 😊 I hadn't been to a dentist in years and finally went a couple days ago, having a clean in a couple of weeks I have some build up I'm so scared to go back! I think I definitely need to get an electric toothbrush I also have wisdom teeth so think the smaller oral b head would reach them better but I have sensitive gums on my front teeth so not sure if it would be too harsh on those, thank you for your reply I hope you continue to see great improvements!

@@trix4487 I get the anxiety about going back, my deep clean wasn't exactly comfortable, but totally worth it for the results I got. I would be careful with the rotating heads on very sensitive gums, to be honest, because I've heard a lot from people that got gum damage from using them. And trying them out can be a little pricey 😅 Maybe go with a normal toothbrush for the first three months after your deep clean and see whether the sensitivity in your gums goes away once the tartar is removed and you have a solid routine, before deciding on the model of electric brush that would best suit your needs.

The circle heads are best for me. I had a lot of cavities due to low vitamin d levels, so I went to a dentist in Illinois (who offered IV sedation) to get the cavities fixed. He suggested Phillips Sonic Care. He told me he didn't like Oral B and to switch to Phillips Sonic Care. I always used Oral B, But I bought the Phillips Sonic Care electric toothbrush, and I hated it. I had horrible dental visits. They wanted me to come in every three months because I wasn't brushing like I should because the Phillips Sonic Care brush head so big I was gagging a lot, so I wasn't brushing as long as I should have. I couldn't get to the back teeth to brush them. The dentist wanted to do a deep cleaning. I walked out of that dental office. I threw away the Phillips Sonic Care Electric toothbrush and bought an Oral B electric toothbrush again. I moved to a different state. It took me a year to go to the dentist again. Since switching back to Oral B I have been having great dental visits ever since. The type of electric toothbrush does depend on the person.

Hey, couldn’t help to reply. Been an RDH for high profile dentists in Beverly Hills for the last 17 years. I don’t care what anyone says- but the Oral B with precision clean or cross action heads are by far superior to any sonicare! I have seen major change in patients oral health when they use and switch to Oral B! Most dentists just see that it’s ADA approved etc; studies done on the brushes were both paid by their companies. So that doesn’t say much. Technique matters, yes! But even w poor dexterity the mechanism of the circular head that truly gets in and cleans each tooth / surface at a time is by far superior.
@andreacichowski1993

@@sctrojan17 I agree. I have always had an Oral B. I will never go back to a Phillips Sonic care Electric Toothbrush. With Oral B my teeth just feel cleaner. That is exactly right, Some dentists do check to see if the electric toothbrush is approved by them. I think that's what the dentist in the Chicago area did. I agree I do think the circle head electric toothbrushes do a better cleaning. You're right I even feel that in between my teeth the area gets clean. The circle heads really are and do an amazing job cleaning my teeth then I feel more confident going into the dentist office for a cleaning.
