This is a tutorial on how to make 100% olive oil soap, also known as castile soap.
This is a cold process soap made with lye. Always remember to be careful and follow safety precautions when you are using lye. Gloves and protective eye wear is a must!
Simple 3 ingredient castile soap recipe:
550 g olive oil
85 g water
70.8 g lye
(45.5 % lye concentration, 5% superfat)
Calculated with my favorite lye calculator: soapee.com/calculator

Thank you for the consistent high-vibrational and soothing energy throughout your videos. I'm new to the channel (and also soap making), and was wondering if you or anyone else on the comments thread had any tips for getting harder castille/bastille soap. Because of my sensitive skin and young children I like to make gentle soaps with as few ingredients as possible. I almost exclusively use olive oil (pomace), and shea butter as my fats.

Add sodium lactate will help harden soap into very hard bars. Add about ½ teaspoon per pound of oil to the recipe. Stir it into the lye solution well, making sure it is fully dissolved before adding the lye to the oils.

Thank you so much! I wanted to make sure that the soap would go through gel so that's why I put it in the oven. Usually it's done by pre heating the oven to 50 degrees celsius, putting the soap in the oven and then turning it off and letting the soap sit there for a day or so.

@buttonvalley

Lye is necessary for making soap. Any soap you've ever used was created using lye. The chemical reaction when lye and oils are mixed (saponification) creates a compound that is neither lye nor oil. It is soap.

@tellervo.
@tellervo. 2 жыл бұрын
The first recipe has a 25% lye concentration and the second I think has a 45% lye concentration. I prefer soaping with a water discount because this way I can unmold the soap quicker, I have less issues with soda ash and the soap will become much harder sooner as there's less water that needs to evaporate out of the soap while it's curing🙂
