Will Tennis Elbow supplements help you heal or just waste your money? Full post: tenniselbowclassroom.com/trea...
Are there any useful and effective vitamins, supplements or herbal remedies for supporting the healing process and relieving Tennis and Golfer's Elbow pain - Or are they a total waste of time and money?
It's a question I'm often asked in emails, in my members forum and in my practice treating Tennis Elbow sufferers directly.
Many people want to avoid toxic anti-inflammatory pills - for very good reasons!…
And they're looking for natural alternatives for both pain relief and to support their healing process.
The problem is that desperate Tennis and Golfer's Elbow sufferers often seem to get a little carried away in seeking vitamin and herbal supplement remedies…
And it seems to lead too many down a rabbit hole chasing miracle cures.
You'll come across all sorts of claims on the Internet about this, that or the other supplement or herbal concoction - including but not limited to:
► Basic Vitamins: A, B, C and D
► “Anti-Inflammatory” Herbs: Ginger, Turmeric, Bromelain
► MSM and Glucosamine
► Fish Oil / Veg-based Omega-3 Oils
► And Collagen Supplements
Unfortunately, the short answer is that most of this stuff, beyond basic vitamins is basically pointless and a waste of money, for various reasons we explore in this video!...
(At least when it comes to healing tendon injuries like Tennis Elbow and Golfer's Elbow. Not necessarily for other problems.)
But let's talk about the good stuff first… (Watch the video)
REFERENCE - Quoted in the video:
“Vitamin D plays a significant role in the tendon-to-bone healing process by increasing the bone mineral density and strengthening the skeletal muscles.”
Vitamin D And The Immunomodulation Of Rotator Cuff Injury
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...
This study has to do with the Rotator Cuff tendons of the shoulder, and how they need to heal and form strong attachments to the bone after surgery…
But the same principle may apply to Tennis or Golfer's Elbow, because we're dealing with a similar 'tendon attachment' at our elbows.

A pH of zero is very acidic. Water is generally a seven. Which is a neutral pH.

I had the same question about collagen a couple of decades ago. Collagen has 2 different aminoacids that we seem not too much of it naturally. I saw some research showing that taking collagen 1 hour before training is beneficial. I will try to find it.

I developed tennis elbow in both arms, and healing was very slow. After beginning Vitamin D supplementation the pace of healing has picked up noticeably. Right arm has gone from 30% to 80% grip (loving it!), and left has gone from 10% to 30%. The left injury is much more recent. Hopefully this will continue. Glad to have run across your channel. People were trying to help me with elbow braces and their old nsAID meds. Your explanation of the root mechanism makes a lot more sense to me than "inflammation". Treating an "-osis" not an "-itis". Thanks!

Thanks so much for sharing the good news of your progress since beginning Vitamin D supplementation! I hope more people with Tennis Elbow try that. I love things that are low-cost, natural, easy and healing-supportive!

Currently use a high quality digestive enzyme supplement for overall digestion used to use collegen powder and what a waste of money that was stick to solid nutrition and if your lacking vitamins then properly supplement high quality ones if your diet isn’t getting it :)

I need all my chances of recovering from this irritating condition. Do you think its safe to take both fish oils and vitimine C D? i don't see the the harm in taking them at different times of the day! whats your take on the claim that dairy foods prevent healing? And exactly which type of fish oil helped in clearing up your skin up. You're very informative btw thanks!

What you have to be especially careful about when supplementing D is that you don't take too much because it can be dangerous and toxic. It's a fat-soluble vitamin that builds up - unlike C, which is water-soluble and just washes out, so to speak, if you take too much. It was Flaxseed oil, not fish oil that helped me with my skin. Check out my article, which includes a part about the sun and endogenous Vit D production - Especially if you're in the northern hemisphere where it's summer now. tenniselbowclassroom.com/tennis-elbow-treatments/tennis-elbow-supplements-useful-remedy-or-waste-of-money/ (I don't know anything about the claim that dairy foods supposedly prevent healing.) Thanks for the compliment!

I've had tennis elbow for a number of months now, I've trained around it (bodybuilding) but it still persists and has radiated up to my bicep and shoulder. Would vitamin c&d still be of benefit to me?
@TennisElbowClassroom
@TennisElbowClassroom 5 жыл бұрын
I can't say for certain, but I don't see why not! (Tennis Elbow doesn't radiate up the upper arm or into the shoulder, though.) It's much more likely that one will develop a shoulder problem - (often without symptoms locally) - that one adapts to / compensates for"downstream" / down the kinetic chain, in the forearm/wrist, by over gripping or what have you, which then leads to Tennis or Golfer's Elbow. LATER, if the shoulder problem persists or worsens, it finally begins to produce it's own symptoms, locally in the shoulder area or in the mid-upper arm, which is a classic referred pain pattern of the Rotator Cuff - Very often the Supraspinatus muscle/tendon. Hope that helps!

@@TennisElbowClassroom that's a huge help thank you. So overgripping/gripping too tight is a bad idea?

@@kendoskeg11 Yes, sustained gripping / over-gripping tends to aggravate.

Do you think an MRI should be done before physical therapy? I've tried supplements, cortisone shot, painkillers, Etc. But I have not taken any pain killers for over a week because of your reasoning saying that inflammation is part of the healing process. If you can answer my question that would be great. I don't want to have to cough up $700 for MRIs on both of my elbows. I have the flex bar at home but I have not started using it out of fear that it may make it worse. I have a physical therapy appointment tomorrow

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I would personally not seek out an MRI unless I was totally at the end of my rope, suspected a tear and was ready to have surgery if the MRI showed a significant tear... But I often suggest that people in your shoes try and get a sonogram / diagnostic ultrasound, since that's a lot cheaper, faster and easier - although not conclusive, when it comes to deciding whether to have surgery or not. Here's my post on that topic: tenniselbowclassroom.com/what-is-tennis-elbow-1/sonogram-scan-tennis-elbow-diagnostic-test/

I've already scheduled the MRI, it's been two months since this injury has started and although it has got better, it is not enough for me to get back to guitar, video games, or intensive writing. My Orthopedic referred me to get an MRI done on my elbows, he also prescribed me Mobic for anti-inflammatory, have not tried it yet. After the MRI I will know if I need surgery or just physical therapy. And I would love to go to your practice but unfortunately I'm in the LA area, too bad. You seem like you know what you are doing.

@@TennisElbowClassroom So I got the MRI on the left elbow and everything looks fine, but I'm not sure if I should spend the money on the right elbow MRI. I'm making a decent recovery but it's taking a while. close to 3 months.... They able to play some guitar today for about 20 minutes but I got a little bit of backlash for that. But it's fine it's not like it ruined my recovery. mobic helps.......... It's hard to stay away from my Temptations of using my arm.
