So I see everyone's hate on this guy, but if you didn't notice, his atp highlight reel has more views than Roger federers, and his matches always been one of the best attended at tournaments. There's a reason ATP went out of its way to make a highlight reel for him even tho he didn't even finish the year in top 20. Nick sells and he's good for tennis in general period.

My 2 cents: If it were just based on pure hand-eye-co ordination and talent, Kyrgios would be top 3 in the world, probably #1. It's his mental game and nonchalant attitude that prevent him getting higher in the rankings. But when you listen to him talk about it, he's OK with it. He says stuff like 'There's more to life than tennis.' And i get it. At a school I would often settle for a B or B+ on an assignment because the effort:reward ration after a certain point gets pretty high. As in, it's a LOT more work to get from a B+ to an A+ and you just can't be bothered. I reckon that's Kyrgios' attitude to tennis. He doesn't have the motivation of a Nadal etc and he admits it quite readily. He says he doesn't train as hard as most other players on tour (listen to his recent press conference at Wimbeldon after the Nadal match). And maybe that actually makes him a more balanced and healthy individual. Because let's face it, there is more to life than tennis. Us fans don't generally like it because we want our tennis heroes to act like it's life and death, but it's not. So I actually say "Good on him.'

@@alexandravandervoordt6016 You're mistaken. Kyrgios has a 6-7 record against the big 3 (6-6 before Wimbledon 2019). He has one of the best serves on tour. After the big 3 retire, if Kyrgios tries his best and tries to improve he definitely has a good chance to be world number 1.
@ani85c
@ani85c 4 жыл бұрын
I stumbled upon this video as I've been binging on Wimbledon 2019 content on YT. What an insane video, gotta love Kyrgios!! All this talk about him "not fulfilling his potential" is pointless. He has clearly said it himself that he doesn't care about winning grand slams. So why do you care?? The most watchable players aren't necessarily the ones who've won the most grand slams. In the '90s and 2000s I grew up watching the likes of Philippousis, Greg Rusedski, Tim Henman, Tommy Haas, etc .. and Goran Ivanisevic is my all-time favorite. When he finally won Wimbledon, it felt amazing to him and all his fans, including me, but even if he retired without winning a slam, he'd still be my all-time fav. His serve was just insane and is still unmatched. There are players who never win a slam but bring something unique to the game. Ivanisevic was one, and Kyrgios has to be in that category as well. Federer, Nadal, Djokovic may be the "goats" or whatever tf, but they play the same shot to the same ball day in, day out. To someone like me who has watched and followed tennis since 1996, the top 3 are pretty boring at this point. I'd rather watch matches that they are NOT involved in. Baffles me as to why people are so obsessed with their number of slams, stats, records, etc. Who gives a shit?? Just try actually watching the game, for a change. /rant

He is one of my favourite players and I wish he would start focusing on his tennis and taking it seriously, but still being himself and trying out crazy shots, like the underarm serve (a great tactic for people like Nadal who stand at the back fence against big servers)....He would not be Nick Kyrgios without it...He just needs to stop throwing tantrums and train more.....

Kyrgios's entertainment makes his opponents look good when he should be carrying the mantle! He brings something very special to the game and does not have to lose it but he has to get his priorities right. First take the advantage and drop the points in the bag and then the flamboyance and entertainment can follow! His mental coach should be able to sort that out quite easily!!!!
