The smoke came from a few drops of diesel burning after the air was no longer being pumped through. Basically the short caused the air pump to shut down immediately but there were a few drops of diesel that still dripped into the still very hot combustion chamber. Without the air pump it burned incompletely, the excess becoming "smoke".

Yup. Have an espar in my semi and I can attest to this causing an acrid smell that could be confused with electrical burning.

Important: your exhaust should be higher than an anticipated snow level. We run into that often with HVAC venting in our area. I'd be concerned with fumes being trapped and coming in under your platform during a heavy snow.

Not only super glue but many other types as well. I work in semiconductor manufacturing and our glues are all like thousands of dollars per charge. They're all kept frozen in a dedicated fridge and when you need some for the next assembly steps, then you thaw it, fill what you need in a syringe and immediately freeze it again. I'd recommend it for all the more pricey glues that you can buy in the hardware store.

Some people route the exhaust through a radiator to capture the wasted heat. Obviously with an additional hose the other side of the radiator to outside

If snow load is a concern, heating the tent more often is probably a good solution but an alternative is you can spray wax the exterior of the canvas once a season and it will really help to shed heavy loads.

Wax might be the way. Heat melting the snow may result in excessive icing.

Cody, get a center finding ruler to find centers easily. The zero is in the middle, you just match the measurements on each side and bingo, you have the center of the object!

With todays big LFP battery banks and solar panels its much easier to go off grid and have all the electricity you need. And then SpaceX Starlink allows you to connect almost anywhere on earth to high speed internet so you no longer have to worry about being in the vicinity of a cell phone tower. Finding the center of a circle. 1.) Using your cup as an example, grab a ruler, measure where the cup is 2" across and make a line. Should be about 1/3 the way up; but the vertical distance doesn't matter, it's just a reference point. 2.) Rotate the cup about 30 degrees, doesn't need to be exact, and make another 2" line. You should now have 2 "base" lines on the cup about 1/3 the way up from the sides. 3.) On each "base" line, measure and mark the center of the line. If the line is 2 inches long, mark it at 1 inch. *Tip: when making the "base" lines, it helps to just go ahead and make it an even number on the ruler since finding center is much easier that way.* *Now is where you will find center.* 4.) Grab a carpenters square. Line it up on one of the "base" lines so that you can draw a 90 degree line from the 1" mark you made. This new line perpendicular to your base line should go through the center of the cup. 5.) Now go to the second "base" line you made and do the same thing. When finished, you will now have two lines that go through the middle of the cup. Where those two new lines intersect is precisely the middle of a circle. Once you understand the process, it takes only a few seconds and four lines to find center of any circle.

3:00 side note; those enamel cups are the perfect fix for oversized or shallow cupholders in your vehicle. Knock the handle off and velcro the bottom down to the cupholder floor. Fits about everything perfectly, unless you like drinks in the several dozens of ounces.

Car cup holders that go into vents (or other mount points) make good cup holders on desks for people with tremors. I switched to using those type of cups (plastic ones with small bottoms/lids) and cup holders when I started having tremors since I could no longer use standard coffee cups without dropping/breaking them, although I do screw the cup holder into the desk for added protection.

I know you probably don't care but: That exhaust pipe gets red hot, and probably needs more protection than your cup. I don't have references, but when I did the research for mine I think they wanted a 6-8" collar in lieu of a thimble. Easy to make, just cut an 8" hole in the wood, patch it with some sheet metal, put a 1" hole in the metal to run the exhaust through. I'd hate to see your decking start to burn or worse. Glue a 9v CO detector to it, they're cheap and go for years. In the very best case: Negligence is bad for your conscience. You're a national treasure. Stay safe! Keep fighting the good fight.

I'd get a set of large stones that I could put around the wood stove.. They'll absorb a bunch of the extra heat and slowly release it greatly extending the amount of time you can leave the tent unattended in a snowstorm. Also reduce your wood usage. Combine that with a wood stove that has a catalytic system and wood usage drops through the floor and stoking times are greatly reduced, giving much more time again.

There's nothing that will "drop wood usage to the floor" in a situation like this uninsulated and unsealed tent.

@@littlejackalo5326 Use a Dutch West with a catalytic system and you'll see. The system runs between 600°F and 1,300°F trim the air flow down and you'll run it around 900°F to 700°F for about 6 to 7 hours, then around 500°F to 300°F another 10. 24 hours after staring it, you'll likely still have enough coals left to start the next load of wood. Most of the heat is generated in the converter and goes into the surrounding steel. Also the thinner stovepipe part of the chimney connecting to the outside is throwing off a lot of heat. I've run my Dutch West for over 35 years now. Only changed gaskets and the catalyst cores as needed. This coming year sometime in Summer, I'm going to finally rebuild her by changing the top, front glass, the refractory and replace the ash pan along with all new gaskets. She's keeping 3,800 square feet of house toasty warm.

Stones won't reduce wood usage, they are simply storing the heat energy from the stove and release it, similar to a battery being charged and discharged, except with the stones, it's hard to keep then from discharging.

Cutting fluid, unlike coolant (which does both in a machine tool), most certainly lubricates. It ensures the chips slide off the cutting surface, which lessens the initial heat generation. This has the side effect of cooling, but it’s not removing the heat, it’s preventing its creation.

No need to be nervous.. the heater pulls about 40w while it's running. It pulls about 150w initially to get the glow plug started, alligator clips are fine.

Mine when I first fired it up had the same white smoke. Cleared up pretty quick and no problems since. I like it as another option for heat. I put mine on a dolly with a big battery and fuel cell.

Finding the center of a circle without a centering square - Use a right angle (paper, 2x4, etc.). Place the corner of the right angle on the circumference of the circle. Mark on the circumference where the two legs of the right angle pass over it. Draw a line between the two marks on the circumference. Turn the right angle and repeat. Practice with a circle drawn on paper, and using the corner of another piece of paper as your right angle so you can perform this when your centering square is back at the shop. (Neither an East coast nor a West coast man, but an Appalachian Mountain man, and Tennessee Volunteer.)

I’ve used one of these to heat my tent for winter camping for the past 4 years. I keep a CO sensors in the tent to be safe but have had zero issues. Biggest issue is I’ve only been able to run it on ours lowest setting because on my trips I run it on my trucks battery all night and I try not to drain that so much that I over work the alternator. On low it will heat a single person tent up to 80 in 20 degree weather. But a larger 4 person with so many vents on low it will only give you 15-20 degree increase over outside temp. But I just setup a solar panel on my truck and bought a power station so hopefully I can run it confidently on a higher setting all night and sleep comfortably on my winter trips.

Your center finding method is great. In geometry, you'd draw two chords and then two lines perpendicular to the chords. Those lines meet at the center.

The smoke was the unburnt diesel getting into the combusruon chamber. No harm/foul. I got one for my 5th wheel and love it.
