September 5th, 2021 at Orlando Speed World (1/4 mile NHRA dragstrip).
Running on the stock Pirelli P Zero tires (19”), while racing against the fastest full-bodied cars we could find.
Running at 40-50% battery charge. Don’t believe the lies from that other guy in the Challenger. (He has 0 integrity.)
Race #, ET, MPH, Reaction, 60-ft, Mode, W/L Margin, Vs
1: 9.619, 146.35, 0.549, 1.56, Win by 4.29 vs NOS Challenger
2: 10.025, 109.66, 0.148, 1.64, Win by 0.43 vs 911 Turbo S
3: 10.032, 34.77?, (Launch Control), 1.53, Win vs Corvette
4: 10.061, 101.77, 0.247, 1.57, Win vs Trackhawk
5: 9.919, 143.72, 0.818 (Pro Tree not known!), 1.78, Loss vs NOS Redeye (at 44% Battery Charge!)
6: 9.617, 144.33, 0.065, 1.49, Win vs Monza
Started with 55%, ended with 40% (used 15% or 2.5% average per race, but 3 runs ended at 1000-feet, not the full 1/4 mile!)
All races were in “Plaid Mode” (NOT “Drag Strip” Mode and did not use Launch Control), with these exceptions: The last two runs used fully warmed up Drag Strip Mode (“Peak Performance Ready”), but not Launch Control. Launch Control was used on race #3, but Drag Strip Mode was not warmed up.
Note: ET’s always exclude Reaction Times! The time from Green Light to the finish line is the total of RT + ET. ET is the time from actually crossing the Start Line to crossing the Finish Line, irrespective of the driver's reaction to the light.
Thanks to Michael (911 Turbo S), Walter (Corvette), AJ (Trackhawk), Jerry (Monza) and all others drivers (except that one dishonest guy) for these fun races!

Rematch? We’ve changed our policy so that we only run against honest drivers with class, so we won’t be running against that one specific driver again. But we did race another Nitrous Redeye recently! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iJZiaat31sy-lI0.html And these two modified Redeye drivers explain how to *actually* build one! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iJZiaat31sy-lI0.html Update: The Tesla returned to this track on 9/18/19 at 98% and ran three back-to-back 9.2s: 9.26, 9.29, and 9.27 (all over 150 MPH). The white Redeye driver posted a FAKE video saying the Tesla was “at 100% battery charge” for our 'race', which is very *obviously* false. The Tesla was at 46%. (What kind of person would *lie* about this?) BTW, Our Plaid is now running 9.15… ^ See Description for Time Slip summary and more details ^ [New Plaid races every week! Subscribe for more!]

@@poindextersheelturn436 yeah, you can say that but the reality is it wasn’t a fair race between the Tesla and the Redeye. You saw how the Redeye launched earlier because the Tesla guy thought it was a regular tree instead of a pro tree takeoff. Now grant it, the Tesla driver still admits he would’ve lost because his best ET has been like 9.60 which obviously wasn’t faster than the 9.30 from the Redeye. to your last point about street racing vs the track, another thing is that if you wreck on the track, you're very unlikely to hurt anyone else. you can decide to take that risk for yourself when you race. when you're doing it on the street, you can easily kill someone who had no say in the matter. it's a fairly dangerous sport, but so are plenty of others. the difference is that excluding extreme cases the only people getting hurt in the other sports and on the track are the ones who knew the risks going into it.
@joshuarosen465
@joshuarosen465 2 жыл бұрын
To your point, everyone at a track has signed up for the risk. Racing is dangerous, many of histories greatest drivers have been killed but they all went into it knowing that was a possibility. People are free to risk their own lives but not the lives of other people. All modern cars have GPS and Internet connections. If the DOT were to require that cars be geofenced so that they can't exceed the speed limit on a public road by more than 20MPH it would be a worthwhile public safety measure. On private roads and tracks the limits would come off.

@@meivin1624 They do now, but it voids the warranty. Tesla can change your acceleration, raising it when they think it's safe enough, and have in the past. The roadster with the 10 or so that come with the optional 10 small rockets ( no shit!) will be pretty formidable, the plaid has already met the roadsters projected top speed so it's got to be faster now, and at an estimated $250 albiet pricey is relatively cheap compared to anything that even comes close! For me getting enough to change the front chain rings on my bike is out of reach, so I guess the Tesla will be for when I win that lottery I keep forgetting to play.

The Tesla is very, very quick for a factory stock car, but there will *always* be massively modified ICE cars that are even quicker. This one *is* massively modified, and based on Andrew's times to this point it's unlikely he could beat that Redeye even under ideal conditions. The Tesla can't be modified in any meaningful way to speed it up (at least, not while it's under warranty), but that Redeye will almost certainly be turned up another notch if there's ever a rematch. I would let this one go. It's unfortunate (although very telling) that they thought they had to cheat to win, but it's also pretty funny that they were that scared. The funniest thing is that pretty much across the board, there's no way to beat a Tesla without spending more than the Tesla costs, regardless of what you start with or how much DIY is involved. The difference is that with the ICE cars the total expenditure is hidden because it's a bit here, a bit there, spread out over a long time, whereas the Tesla is one lump sum. I know there are a lot of homebuilts out there that will claim to have done it on the cheap, but that's only because they haven't saved all the receipts.

@@awo1fman imagine if the same money was spent modifying an electric setup. I mean, the stock Tesla plaid in drag strip mode breaks into the 8s. Imagine how it would run with bigger motors and a bit more power from the batteries. I bet with the same amount of engineering and money an electric setup could easily run with pretty much anything.

As always, your videos are such a treat. For me, this week really showed off the huge difference in the Plaid, where it still runs extremely quickly and fast at relatively low charge. The improved heat and power management of the new Model S is not the stuff that makes headlines, but it's actually a huge achievement that shows Tesla's commitment to continually raising the bar through steady innovation. I'm really glad that some tracks are looking to the spirit of the NHRA safety rules, rather than just blindly following them. I've seen some modified hotrods at the track that look unsafe running 14s@100MPH, and yet the Model S runs rock solid 9s at 150MPH, because it was built for doing that just as easily as it handles commute traffic, twisty roads, and poor weather reliably, without complaint or breakdown. Fast cars racing on the street and crashing is a story as old as cars themselves, but the Tesla name gets clicks these days, especially if it's bad news, unfortunately. You do set a great example Andrew, racing only at the track. And always wearing your fire gear and helmet. Importantly, still having great fun with it, and meeting with other dedicated track racers there.

Great day of racing. It would have been nice to have seen a race against the nitrous Dodge earlier with a heads up about the Pro tree. The Plaid is unbelievably quick and fast. I checked out that Tesla accident you were mentioning and it is bad journalism regarding the car. The make or model of car is irrelevant to why the accident happened. The driver was the problem. Speed was most likely a big issue but because it was a Tesla Plaid had nothing to do with what happened. Love your videos, they’re great.👍👍🇨🇦
