This video is a test and review of the Winnerwell Nomad Large Cook Camping Stove. We unbox the stove and review the components. We install a stove pipe jack in the side of a Kodiak Canvan Flex Bow Deluxe 6 Person Tent. We set up the stove in the tent and make sure the pipes fit through the jack and all looks safe. We light a fire in the stove and thoroughly test it for smoke leaks, burn control using the dampers, and generally give it a thorough examination. We also purchased, installed and tested the Winnerwell Leg Extensions and the Winnerwell Triple Wall Chimney Pipe Section that is designed to fit through the Jack. The Triple Wall Chimney Pipe Section proved to stay cool where it comes in contact with the Jack. We also reviewed to some degree the Kodiak Flex Bow Canvas Deluxe 6 Person Tent. The items purchased and reviewed include the following:
Winnerwell Nomad Large Tent Stove $439.99 (Amazon)
Winnerwell Leg Extension Kit $39.95 (Amazon)
Winnerwell Triple Wall Chimney Pipe $76.99 (Amazon)
Winnerwell 45 degree pipe section $23.99 (Amazon)
Unistrength Stove Jack 5" $45.88 (Amazon)
First Alert Home 1 Fire Extinguisher (2) $24.98 (Amazon)
Kodiak Canvas Flex-Bow Delux 6 Person Tent $599.94 (Cabelas)
We were not happy with the fireproof mat we purchased on Amazon, so we ordered and have since received the Winnerwell Fireproof Mat. We are very pleased with this mat which we also purchased on Amazon for $64.99.
Overall, we were extremely pleased with the Winnerwell Stove and all Winnerwell Accessories. And as mentioned in the video, we have been using and are extremely pleased with the Kodiak Canvas Flex Bow Delux 6 Person Tent. I can set it up and take it down by myself.
Finally, I am not an expert in this field. This was not a paid endorsement. I have no affiliation with any of the makers of these products. My hope is that I can give back to the KZfaq community, from which I have learned much, by sharing my experience in Astrophotography, Rockhounding, Camping, Hiking, and having great adventures with my best pal, Shadow.
Summary questions we hope to have answered:
How to install a stove pipe jack in a tent. Please comment if you think our approach was good, or if you have any suggestions.
How to install and use a tent stove.
How to control the rate of burn in a tent stove.
How to set up and take down a Kodiak Canvas Flex Bow Tent.
How to properly vent a tent stove.
How to Hot Tent Camp.
How to Heat or Warm a Hot Tent.
We encourage you to read all owners manuals and follow all safety precautions and adhere to safety warnings.
We hope you enjoyed! Thanks for watching!

A Great Review of the stove and install of the Jack. I've two Winnerwell stoves, the Nomad in Small which I've used the most, and the Winnerwell Woodlander in Medium which I intend to use more this coming Winter. In my opinion all the Winnerwell stoves and accessories are just the best. I have the fast fold oven, I've used it on my Small Nomad. But I reckon it will work much better on my Medium Stove. All the best from the UK. Geordie

Geordie, I’ve been wondering about the fast fold oven. Does it work well? I would like an oven but do not want to have another sizable piece to lug around. The fast fold would be ideal if it works okay. Any additional thoughts? Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@adventuresofshadowdog The fast fold Oven will work really well on your Large Winnerwell Stove. I made some bread using it on the Small Nomad, but it took longer than it should have. Mainly as it lost some of its heating area on the base, the fast fold oven fits better on the top of the Medium and Large Stove. With it folding flat, it saves space for transporting, where the pipe Oven is another big space taken up in your vehicle. Another thing I love using on mine is a 3ltr water heater that uses the heat that is going up your chimney to boil your water. I don't have a Winnerwell water heater, mine is just another brand 3ltr steel half cylinder one that I had bought for a previous stove. But it works just aswell. Hope that helps, all the best. Geordie

Hi, I highly recommend you adjust your stove pipe to a vertical position upon exiting the tent. It will allow the stove to 'breath' much better and keep the stove from overheating.

Thank you SO much for your review of this unit. I was considering purchasing it and now I am SOLD. I can’t wait to make my purchase for camping this season in northeast Ohio. Actually, I like the tent you purchased as well bc I need a hot tent and the snaps were a great addition.

I am delighted that my review helped. I have no affiliation with the manufacturer and only did this review because I thought others might be interested AND because I am so grateful to other people who have done unbiased reviews on products I was interested in. I can honestly tell you that I grow to love this stove more and more each time I use it. I LOVE IT! By the way, I moved to Southern Utah a few years ago from Ohio. Ohio is near and dear to my heart and always will be. Please let me know if I can be of further help with the stove! Thanks for watching and commenting!!!

You did everything right. You did good mister. I just bought one finally because these would tent stoves sell out faster Santa can make’em. The only thing is that winnerwell has no front glass replacements. But will purchase the carry bag instead of a tote and extension legs. I have a bromance pomoly 6/8 person tent I want to try out soon. It has three stove jacks built in. But no upper vents. A person told me open a top stove jack the you you would open top vent leaving it semi Velcroed for better ventilation plus it has two lower vents for better ventilation but your canvas tent is perfect for your needs. Thank you for sharing your content with us. Keep’em coming when you can. Remember you did good for a so-called Novice SEMPER FI

I recently found a channel called Lost Lakes, and he does a ton of winter camping in Canada, where it gets really COLD. You might be interested in watching his stove set up. How he manages is amazing to me. (My idea of roughing it is no room service.) :)

Tom, really glad to hear the review video was helpful. I really love the Kodiak tent and this stove works great in it. I’ve used it now a couple of times this winter and it’s kept me toasty warm. Ive also learned a few things. 1. The two 45 degree angle pipes give me lots of options in how I position the stove inside the tent. However . . . 2. I wish I had placed the Jack about 1” lower. That would have been perfect. It’s just a tad high and that does limit me some as to the stove placement. I did set up the tent and measured the best I could where I wanted the Jack before installing it. So my recommendation is to do the same, just play around with the stove placement and do your best to get the Jack positioned just right. 3. I really like the Jack I used. Heavy duty and works real well. 4. Definitely get the “heat shield pipe piece” that fits through the Jack. That is really important and it works real well to keep the hot stove pipe from harming the tent, or worse! Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Happy Camping! Lance

@@adventuresofshadowdog I just got a cheap one on Amazon that works just fine. I put it in a hard plastic case from HF to protect it while I transport it with my horses. When it’s super cold and running stove wide open it’s nice knowing how far you can push the stove temp before real danger begins.

Totally understand your desire to avoid additional processing firewood by getting the large but in what looks like a 10x10, it's a bit of overkill in heating that small of a space with a Large. Can you crank it down to a more practical burn? Also agree with someone's comment about the flue terminating more vertical. It would, in fact, help it draft more effectively.
@adventuresofshadowdog
@adventuresofshadowdog 5 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and commenting. This size stove does indeed put out a lot of heat. You can regulate it to some extend with the Flue damper and the air intake door. I do agree that a smaller size would be sufficient for a 10x10 tent. But I’ve been very happy with it and really am glad I don’t have to cut the wood to smaller sizes. I guess it boils down to personal preference. I also appreciate the comment about the flue terminating vertical. Thanks for mentioning that as I hope other viewers see that comment as well. I’ve learned some helpful tips from viewers such as you who have left comments. Thanks!

One thing I would suggest is light the fireplace outside the tent first to burn off any oils or anything that you shouldn't be breathing in.

Hey Paul! Good suggestion. So I was hoping to fit that small bucket in the tote. I was able to fit everything else related to the stove in the tote, but not the bucket. So, given that, I might as well take along a bigger bucket and I could use it to hold wood and gather wood. A coal bucket is a great suggestion! Thanks!!!

In all honesty this is the first stove I have owned personally. I have camped many times with friends and they had stoves. I do not know the brands though. But they too worked well. I know there are some other KZfaq videos by others showing comparisons. I wish I could help you more with this question. But all I can say is that I continue to love this stove and I can highly recommend it. It is on the expensive side. But I think it’s worth it. Good luck with your decision. Thank you for watching!
