the wonderful stories of our youth. ..... how many times I nearly killed myself or at least scared myself really good. ... most often I was more afraid of being caught. .. today they would jail me for bomb making lol once I took one of those cheap torches the ones that come with propane blue bottle and oxygen yellow bottle .... got a neutral flame and filled a plastic shopping bag with the gas and taped a match head and toilet paper fuse to it and boom.... was at my best friends house it rattled the windows violently and in certain it was heard for at least a mile. ..... scared the f or of my friend yeah the fun of child hood when ask we had to great was death and a serious whooping from dad.... were the days once I blasted a hole into one of the local irrigation canals with a small black powder cannon I built with a tiny lathe. .. the hole was a foot across and 6 inches deep into concrete and the cannon well it vanished except for a brass streak left on the surrounding concrete

I have found that if you drink pure water (zero mineral analysis) for several months (or even rainwater probably... unfortunately I didn't have access to rainwater at the time I switched to pure water from tap water) as opposed to municipal (also called town water) tap (faucet) water; your ability to differentiate between different tastes get a lot better. I can now easily taste the difference between distilled water, rain water, quality bottled pure water(which is very rare) , crappy bottled water (which is very common! Especially ones with high mineral counts on the analysis label or no analysis label at all) and of course tap water which you can usually smell before you even taste it! [Just sharing my experience for inferential reference. I think I should say I don't drink much soft-drink (soda-pop) at all but do drink alcohol so not sure if what other drinks one takes makes any difference. Preheating or post weld heating can reduce embrittlement, but I've heard it's better to use an oxygen rich mix and use methods to reduce oxidation. One simple method is to set up a propane flame over the weld area, it doesn't have to be strong but it serve to preheat the metal and also it burns up the excess oxygen.

Agreed, propane as a shield gas can help a lot. The ideal heat shield gas in this situation is carbon monoxide because not only does it rob that extra oxygen, it helps add trace carbon to the surface of the work piece to give a hardened surface. This may not always be desirable, but when it is, it can be used. Another quite dangerous shielding gas is cyanide gas but it is so much more dangerous its not really worth discussing unless you are in an enviro suit with a remote air supply. Cyanide can harden many metals because of the nitrogen content over and above the carbon content, but the risk of poisoning makes it generally impractical.

+Christian Montrose The torch is not hot at all actually you can touch the flame to your skin and it will hardly burn you, the oxygen and hydrogen is the oxidizer for what ever your burning. So what ever it is, its burning its self, an oxy/ace torch alone wont cut through the iron it just melts! Take a hot coal from a fire, what happens when you blow on it? it burns faster cause your giving it more oxygen. Burning faster creates more heat, so the tungsten will keep heating up until it melts and falls off.

This is not browns gas because it is being mixed at the point of ignition, well I guess it is just before it ignites... it would certainly be able to turn brick to glass but I doubt it would make anything less radioactive.

I did believe the article I read about Browns gas and saw a video of a guy welding a glass rod to a house brick! So I did some double checking and as for the radiation... yep that is true too, it was even shown to US congress in 1992 but sadly it must have went over their heads :( You have everything needed to do a test to see if the OxyHydrogen gas would work on your radioactive materials as an experiment. It's not Browns gas as you say but it's worth a try don't you think? (Note that pieces of "metal and aluminum" were put near the radioactive sample and put under the flame from what I can glean from the link below). Results were astonishing! Reduction in radiation to 99% of original levels!! Very early tests in Sydney AU could only achieve 50% reductions but apparently they have been continuing to research and refine this aspect of the gas. Do links work in KZfaq? That's is a valid point. But I still stand by my original statement that the torch heads can make a huge difference. It sorta like the Idea of a pencil point vs swirl flame propane torch. Even if you have them using the same fuel amount the Swirl just burns way better, because the primary and secondary flames are mixed efficiently into one flame leaving very little "Waste heat..." Unlike the Pencil flame where only the very tip is hot, and the rest of the flame is rather cold and wasteful...

Eren Jaeger You cannot make an atomic bomb out of Deuterium, like you cannot make cake batter out of an oven. Deuterium is hydrogen with a neutron(normally hydrogen has no neutron). It is simply a substance which facilitates a nuclear reaction, but itself is inert(as normal water).
