In the 1990 Nintendo World Championship competition, Tetris was the game to beat. The winner, Thor Aackerlund, is still seen by many as the best to have ever played. Today’s Classic Tetris tournaments are played on that same version of Nintendo Tetris, using original NES game systems, controllers, and Tetris cartridges. In 2009, a player named Harry Hong became the first to achieve the highest possible score of 999,999 points. Inspired by this achievement, filmmaker Adam Cornelius produced a short film about Harry called “Max-Out”, and launched a Kickstarter campaign to document the world of competitive Tetris. As word of Adam’s Kickstarter campaign spread, rumors of max-out scores from other Tetris Masters began to surface, threatening the supremacy of Harry’s achievement. With the help of Nintendo World Championship veteran Robin Mihara, Adam searched for all of the Tetris Masters he could find. Jonas Neubauer emerged as an early max-out artist, along with the elusive original champ Thor Aackerlund. The idea of bringing these and other NES Tetris Masters together to compete in a live tournament became an obvious and irresistible proposition which was artfully captured in the 2010 feature length documentary Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters. Under the leadership of producer Vince Clemente, The Classic Tetris World Championship is currently held at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, an annual event which has hosted the tournament since 2012. Chuck Van Pelt and his organizing committee have built the PRGE into the largest classic gaming expo in the country, drawing around 10,000 attendees. Every year the scores get higher. Rivalries are revisited once again, and new players emerge to challenge the old guard. Over 100 players have maxed out the score now. Will you be the next? ecstasyoforder.com thectwc.com

So I understand the basic Tetris concept of putting pieces in holes, but what decides when you send lines to the other player? How come it sometimes looks like someone is about to lose, but then it turns out they did something good and their screen gets cleared? What decides where a combo begins and ends?
@snowyskunkyfox
@snowyskunkyfox 3 жыл бұрын
a combo begins if you clear a line after clearing one before on the previous piece, it ends if you fail to clear another line afterwards. garbage: doubles send 1, triples send 2, tetrises send 4. t-spin singles send 2, t-spin doubles send 4, t-spin triples send 6. tetrises and t-spin clears start a 'back-to-back' modifier, which increases the amount of damage from tetrises and t-spin clears by +1. the most optimal play involves creating many tetrises and t-spin setups to maximize damage output and overwhelm the opponent.
@spacenoodles5570
@spacenoodles5570 3 жыл бұрын
I think you are confused about the zone. There is a little fill meter on the left, and when you activate the zone, lines do not get cleared, and you build up a combo. You can't die in the zome as well

Blink "Now I know where he's at, I have something to strive for" This is the perfect attuide! I fully believe him too. Next connect champion. Just think this game is early days, like tetris classic it was loved but no one really thought about comps, like who is the best classic player. that came many years later, I think for this game it'll take a little less time (due to classic) but most casuals(myself) will take a while to graps the tactics. How about your channel helps us understand the scoring system of connected?

fuck tetris effect its not even a proper game anymore, just some vr gimmick. the experience that people had on older tetris games cant happen on this cos the only options are campaign which is basic and only lets u do 3 level at a time or its multiplayer. what if i want to 1987 style tetris with levels. u cant practice to get good, all there is is multiplayer.

That's not really about the game mode, but about the game itself. The whole point of Tetris Effect is the visual effects (it's in the name). I would argue that the single player "Journey" mode is flashier, and more distracting.
