Nice, explains why I felt so horrible after watching that movie. There was no catharsis at the end, it was just over and I was flustered and still full of adrenaline. Love it. The atmosphere is so oppressive and hopeless.

i´m real slow with those things, i´ve just watched it and i thought it was indeed very original and nervewracking, but i don´t really minded her laughing screams at the end, for me it was just kind of relieving but now that he mentions it it really looks like 2 animals, that guy on the wheelchair was a real pain in the ass, but not that theres something to do with it lol.unnironicaly i think this is a hell of a movie to watch if ur trying to go vegan.

I always though this was more of a psychological horror because of the lack of communication that you mentioned! It's very scary almost animalistic

I always appreciated that when the sun came up and she escapes, it didnt feel any better. Like the tagline says, " Who will survive, and what will be left of them?"

That nodding at the end is creepy. I think it's the same nod on a loop and it's very uncanny valley. Great video, I noticed too how the sounds in TC Massacre are very shrill and/or grating and off-putting: the people's screams, the chainsaw, the occasional animal noises. It's supposed to grind you down through your ears, not only scare you through your eyes.

Texas Chainsaw - the OG slasher that set the bar - way too often imitated, but never outdone in its raw savagery. Excellent analysis on the sound design of the film. Totally original, and to this day creepy AF. Gotta thank the almighty KZfaq algorithm tho - it recommended your Midsommar video first, which is by far the best analysis of the film I've seen. Then I immediately had to check out your other content. Very glad I did. Instant sub. Keep 'em coming!

I have watched this movie once. It was a profoundly unpleasant experience, and I have no desire to repeat it. But your analysis helped me better understand my revolted response. I so admire your psychological insight and remarkable articulacy. Horror fans, tell your friends-this channel deserves many more subscribers!

I remember, as a kid, after a movie night with my mom, she put on the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre. I tried falling asleep because it was a scary movie but the sound in the opening of the film recharging and the bright lights scared me to death as I tried to shut my eyes tight and plug my ears. It's now ingrained in my mind. Anytime I hear that whiney sound it brings me back to that time as a kid.

Had the pleasure of meeting Gunnar Hansen years ago, still scary to meet as I was about 14. This film feels real, too real. It shows gruesome images, yet we never see the upclose and personal gore as you said. But its the visceral images, the trippy sounds and simple set up. Thanks for making this! I will be watching your content alot more. I prefer the hidden gem channels, rather than the mainstream crap that takes up space here. Did you get the super editon w the big mack truck? Keep it up, mr David Lynch jr :)

The lighting, too, is spectacularly terrifying. It doesn't bother to add soft, artificial moonlight to illuminate the dark so we can see what is happening (like so many horror movies do) as she scrambles through the night, no idea where she is going except away from the terror behind her. This lighting is actually very relatable, too, because it looks and feels exactly the way it would to be literally running for your life through the darkness. And the film stock adds to its griminess - the blood is more disgusting, the sloughing flesh more rotten, the darkness more sinister.

It's funny to me that people who find horror movies distasteful often use "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" as shorthand for irredeemable, violent dreck while the kind of horror fans who care about artistic merit and an understanding of the genre's classics tend to see it as triumph of cinematography and even restraint. Personally, I'm surprised it isn't more widely recognized as an (intentional or not) pro-vegetarianism film. It's not just the way it mines the treatment of people like the animals we consume for horror. We also get a conversation between characters in a van about how they like to eat meat but don't like thinking about how it's made. The old man's discussion of how he doesn't like killing while actively helping feels pretty on-the-nose too.

The Strangers is another one of those movies where it's so plausible and terrifying that you don't really feel any better at the end even though those kids find the woman bleeding out in the living room.

I completely agree. I saw this when I was 17, I think. Alone. It stuck with me for weeks. No other horror film has accomplished that, even The Exorcist, and I'm a Blatty fanboy (have a first-edition hardcover of the book). This is my top horror film. Good analysis.

The greatest horror film ever made, it just feels like the end of times, a bleak and baron wilderness with no hope a terrifying film, nothing compares to TCM, nightmare on elm st, Friday 13th & Halloween all have a safety net, TCM is the real deal........

I saw the 1970s one when I was 10, and it was terrifying bc this girl is trapped with a crazy family. Even though they didn't kill Sally, when she got away she started laughing and I just sank in my chair.
