Steven King’s story about Alicia and her mother almost made me cry bc I was in such a similar situation my religious parents also sat me down at primary school age to watch the Passion except the moment they realized that on screen torture wasn’t child appropriate the movie was stopped and a different one was put on, I genuinely don’t know why Alicia’s mother didn’t march out of that theater the moment her daughter became scared, poor child was traumatized and I’m so glad my parents had the decency not to do that to me and finish the movie when I was in bed and btw they fucking hated it, to them it was pure exploitation of smth holy

Kind reminder that real midsommar is not a cult and we do not do this 😭❤️ I know some people think the real midsommar is actually a cult when it's just a traditional holiday to celebrate like fertility and the longest days of the year and we eat whipped cream and strawberry cake and traditional food and sometimes go watch or dance around the midsommar pole like little frogs, wear flower crowns and a lot of people also drink a lot 😭 We wear summery clothes and especially like white or something pretty and some wear traditional clothing 😭❤️

I’m so glad to see so many people in the comments be confused about how people smiled and how people thought this was a good ending. I was so worried for a moment there.

Fantastic video, and just really solidifies my thoughts that DV perpetrators use the same tactics as cults. Also, so do very small, isolated, rural communities in the United States south, amd I am not even talking about religion. It's terrifying. I have to be on constant alert.

Midsommar, Hereditary, The VVitch are all movies where the evil wins at the end. I don’t think I’m brainwashed if I can see and acknowledge that.

I didn’t find much happiness in the ending of the movie. They drugged Christian into taking a young girls virginity, and Dani chose him to be sacrificed because of it. So basically. The cult caused all of that to happen. And Dani was too brainwashed to understand why. She had very limited knowledge of what they did to cause that. But she still chose to sacrifice him.

Feminists in general were thrilled at the end of this movie because man hating equals good to them. Just like right now with the trending topic they all choose the bear in the woods over the man. Goes to show some mainstream ideologies function similar to cults as well

Who had a warm feeling at the end? I thought it was just an a little on the nose story of being in a pot of water heating up so slowly that you don’t realize it, or finding yourself as just another gear in machine of the status quo.

I thought this movie was garbage when I first saw it. Still think so. But the ideas of it are good. A lot deeper than I gave credit for because of this video. Great work man. Loved it That said. I didn’t smile when she smiled. I couldn’t stand her. The whole movie makes Christian out to be the bad guy. But she was constantly manipulative, overwhelming him and outright insufferable. Idk where this dynamic that she was the good one

Beautiful dissection of this movie's macabre attempts to weaponize Christianity. Even as someone that isn't a deist, the parts you showed of non-fundamentalist christianity's unconditional love, made me respect and understand its core message more. Amazing video

It's really scary to see people saying that Dani finds a new "family". A real family takes care of you at the same time that wants you to be independent and strong. It was all manipulation and Ari Aster really amazed me here, making people succumb to the cult's allures like Dani, even seeing all that is happening and knowing all the dirt secrets. Some people are still easy target prey even knowing all the truth. That's a really great video!

As a woman I no more, know or understand men, anymore than men know or understand me. My knowledge only comes from personal experience and society's warnings of danger from men. So if my experiences are bad I see and expect to see in each successive experience bad. I become so sensitized that I can no longer perceive any other outcome as possible.

It’s honestly terrifying how 1) I forgot this was a horror movie by the end until you said something, and 2) even knowing that, I still like Pelle despite him being a literal predator, still feel happy for Dani knowing she just got indoctrinated into a cult, and still hate Christian even though he’s a literal victim. The psychological mindfork is crazyyyyyy

I want to point out something about the advertising of the movie that was mentioned, because all this pretentious deep diving has me gasping for air. The advertising of the film was done by people who are professional at advertising and not by the makers of it. And I am almost certainly sure that they knew that if the trailer left you feeling like the film in its entirety does the majority of the audience that went to watch wouldn’t have gone.
@user-wj3zq7mu1j6 күн бұрын
I have read so many comments on videos about this film from people that went to watch it in theatres and by the end of the film they were left alone because everyone else walked out. And that’s because the advertising did its job which was to get people to spend their money even if they eventually found out they didn’t like what they were sold. So they analysis of the advertising like some part of the meaning of the film kind of bothered me because at that point you are just seeing things that are simply not there.

I also got so frustrated by how many times the word “uncanny” was intentionally said that i’m thankful that my native language doesn’t have that word in it because I would literally choke the next person that said it.

Hmm... I in no way got the impression that Dani was happy at the end of the film, nor was she not in danger of being killed by the Harga. I felt as though she was accepting her fate in the end. It did not feel like a happy ending for anyone but the Harga. Just my take.

Your reading was interesting, but looking at the film from this perspective severely limits its potential for allegory. IMO the film is a character study that focuses on ego, in an existential sense. Gender is definitely explored as is masculinity, honour, pride, shame ect... but if you narrow it to gender, it narrows your understanding of the text. Maybe that's why you felt the need to write your own ending. But your ending was super Hollywood, spoon feeding very obvious messages about the topic you fixated upon. I think this film is far more complex and nuanced than that.
