Akainu is an amazing villain...and one of the most dangerous character in all of One Piece ! What is dangerous about him is not his incredible logia devil fruit power, but his ideal and vision of Justice. Absolute Justice, justice at all cost, whatever the collateral damage might be. And that whole moment with Ace, you know from the core he means every line of what he says about Whitebeard...being a big fish in a small barrel. I absolutely love it's the same voice actor as Kenpachi in Bleach, it just feel so rough and it's great !

So they censored it for some odd reason but Ace's arm was actually visibly burned in the manga, being darker. Weird they would censor that since they show far more graphic injuries seconds later

The thing that gets me the most about these set of episodes is that Oda kept "teasing" that Whitebeard's gonna die. 100%. He has to die so that the others can leave Marineford unscathed. As soon as he got that hole in his chest we KNEW he wasn't making it out. The later half of 481 was dedicated to his farewell to the old era, the legends he used to sail the seas with and his family then while we're riding the sails of that feeling, Ace happened. I wish this was one of those "nothing happened" moments but it did and damn thousand episodes later it still STINGS.

This really showed prominence with finally revealing a weakness to Logia Devil Fruits. When it comes to Logias, they become living elemental incarnates; but here it showed Logias (by each other in this case) can be damaged/fatally injured if they're overwhelmed by comparable affinities by an elemental hierarchy. In this case which the elemental hierarchy for this example showing that while fire & magma are similar, the power-clash of the Element of Fire is Inferior to the Element of Magma. In case of people wanting to confirm; the devil fruit power hierarchy is officially talked about in SBS Volume 79; but I guess if anything in technicality that it is sorta touched upon in mainly ch 573 (and partial 574 as slightly carries on in minimal talk)

@@nameless4222 You do realise there are literally millions of people who don't know any of the huge spoilers in various media because they just never bothered to engage with those communities or had people actively protecting them from spoilers when they got in to the fandom, right? It's like Aerith's death in FF7 - so many people don't know about it, but so many do. You're judging based on your own experience with the community but your experience isn't everyone else's. There are a lot of reactors who actively avoid social media tags, who have friends and mods who check comments for spoilers, who actively avoid anything about the fandom just so they don't get spoiled - especially when it comes to One Piece. A hell of a lot of the community actively tries to protect reactors from spoilers because we want to see their reactions. So, yes, maybe YOU were spoiled, but there's a lot of reactors out there who never were.

Here’s a thought- How would two logia fruit users attack each other? Only if both use haki…..meaning they have to both activate haki to hit each other. Now everyone likes to say that Akainu used it to punch through Ace. On the contrary though, I think Akainu didn’t use haki because he was going after luffy and could have just burned him even if he punched through Ace. Meaning Ace is the one who purposely used haki to get hit by Akainu and defend Luffy in the process.

Pretty much. Ace took the bait and confronted Akainu and on his own ace prolly could have gotten away. Especially with his devil fruit. But he got rescued by luffy. Someone who was dog tired from being in a conflict he had no business being in power wise. And now ace being dumb enough to fight has to step in. Literally step in. And like you said he cant logia it because Akainu isnt aiming for him. So luffy gets torched if he does. Ace basically trapped himself into that decision.

Lol. No one used haki here not even Ace. It was discussed by Oda that logia fruits have element hierarchy. Magma superior to Flame Ice Superior to Snow. If your fruit is superior to the other, it can damage to the inferior one Just like Aokiji losing a leg after clashing with Akainu.

This is the single arc where plot armour favoured the Marines more than pirates. Luffy got saved multiple times by plot armour, especially against Sengoku's punch which should have killed him instantly. But the commanders were distracted and taken out of the fight when WB took the first major hit from Akainu. Marco spent most of the time handcuffed or else no one would have gone down with him around, the only commander to be shown as admiral level. Jozu was frozen and he was the only guy who made Aokiji bleed. Akainu has the most plot armour among villains which can be seen in the next episode.

There are always people saying it's Ace's fault for turning around or that it's Luffy's fault for spacing out over the vivre card but both of these are annoying, as if Akainu would have just let them run away without killing them? If they just carried on running then Akainu would have just flown in from behind and killed them anyway, Ace turning around to fight changes nothing imo.

Ace could have survived the hit cuz no haki was involved... He chose to take the hit to protect luffy otherwise the magma fist would have went thru him n hit luffy...

That's not how it works. It's simple Logia elemental hierarchy. Akainu's magma is stronger than Ace's fire. Stop talking.

Exactly this could have be avoided. Reading this when came out I was shocked and in tears. Watching it I thought i was ready again. But I realized my tears weren't for Ace but for Luffy, he sacrifice so much just for Ace to doing something so stuipd for his pride. His pride was the main reason for everything. Going for Blackbeard, the war, and everyone single sacrifice.

I ponder about this, i honestly don't think it would have changed if Ace didn't stop, Sakazuki was already at their tail, he caught up and whitebeard was busy and kizaru was in position to neutralize him if he moved to help It was a stupid move from Ace but i don't think it changed a thing aside from showing ace character, Ace might have survived MAYBE if he kept running but many of his friends wouldn't

@a3-radio knowing more about Ace character, he would have stopped. My point was the biggest enemy, Ace himself. He let his pride drive him. Just like his father. Confirm by shanks himself. Rodger was a terrify man.
