Episodes 497-499 is anime canon that expands the manga. Appreciate that you're watching them. It's great to see just how much of a mom Dadan was to the boys.

It's just my theory, but if you look at letters in ASL and on Ace's hand. He strike out S and replaced it with C and L was changed to E. L to E can be done very easily without striking out the whole character.

I thought about that some time ago as well, but then the L should have been really separated from the S from the beginning, to make room for the C instead. Anyways, I still think that the S represents Sabo

I think Shanks lost the arm on purpose so Luffy would never change his ideals or his personality. Now Luffy never wants to disappoint the person who lost an arm for him so it keeps him that same person.

Nah he just got there late and the Lord of the Coast caught him off guard. We've seen other emperors take damage that way. And Shanks wasn't an emperor at that time.

@@bendover7841 Shanks is already hella strong that time....remember they stole the Gum gum fruit in the hands of Who's who (CP agent) and some Navy escort that time....i think its just a bad writting from Oda that time.

@@Warriorten10 its a local sea monster in the Goa country in the east blue ( weakest sea )....and its the same sea monster that one shoted by base form Luffy with the Gum-gum pistol.... and in that time line....Shanks and Mihawk are dueling back and forth like a legend (Whitebeard statement)....its clearly a bad writting from Oda just accept it nobodys perfect anyways...but Oda can clear that by making a reasons why Shanks do that in the future.

Him losing his arm makes no sense. It was just to emphasize his sacrifice. Oda never intended for Shanks to lose his arm, hus editor convinced him to do so to create an impact.

i love that even in alabasta they still tried to get the other to join their ship... like one of the first things ace asked was if luffy would join whitebeard and then later luffy tried to convince ace to join the strawhats

Shanks willingly sacrifice his arm so that Luffy could better understand the importance of his actions having serious consequences. That's exactly why that is always one of the most prominent memories in Luffy's mind and is one of the biggest lessons he never forgets from shanks.

@@TheHeroClass the S meaning Sabo is confirmed. There is a cover page with three of them as adults like that event never happened and the Ace tattoo is writen "Ace".
