Life too short for long KZfaq videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below.
This episode is an edit of some extra bits we filmed when Graham Coxon came to visit for the main video in March 2018. You can watch the main, full-length show here: • That Pedal Show - Grah...
One of the reasons for Graham’s visit was that he wanted Dan to put together a separate pedalboard that he could use for various creative projects: he wanted something portable but versatile; different but familiar; capable of inspiration over complication.
So this episode comprises a quick flick through that board as Graham plugs in for the first time, interspersed with some Coxon gems as you would rightly expect. It’s not a full episode per sé, but loads of people have asked for the extra footage from the day. So here it is…
We are massively grateful to Graham for giving us his time and sharing his insight and experience - what a privilege! Please check out www.grahamcoxon.com and sign up to his newsletter to find out what’s going on in his world.
Meantime, enjoy the video…

I think I speak for everyone here when I say... "Mr Coxon, we F***ing love you!" - thanks for all the tunes & all the inspiration! ...and though *you* won't remember it, I met you in 1995 at the Leadmill (post blur gig aftershow in the small bar), talked about your guitar stickers etc, you were as humble and gracious then as you always appear on video.

I respect and admire lots of guitarists but Graham is the one guy that inspires me to pick up a guitar and just be creative, think outside the box and most of all, just have fun doing it. Blur are a great band, so many layers. Albarn as a pure songwriter is up there with anybody for me (Graham is a fine writer in his own right of course), then Graham's very creative guitar playing with those songs just create something unique. Alex James might also be the most underrated bassist. He had so many great melodic bass line's that somehow blended with Graham's playing perfectly, but in a unique way.

I’ve played in many bands but never learned the guitar. What Graham said about being in a group and just ‘doing it’ I can relate to. There’s a creativity to coming up with a part that fits free of muso correctness.

Never really got into Blur when I was younger. Was a teenager at the time that Brit Pop all started, and had recently started playing the guitar, and it was all about Metallica and Pantera for me. Certainly mellowed a little bit now, but never did revisit the stuff that was around at that time. Proper interesting chappie though and some immense sounds!

I've followed Grahams philosophy in my own guitar playing. I never practice a solo idea. We hit record and I just play. 90% of the time we go with my original take. It's the best feeling in the world....I'm useless at working things out by ear after though so I have to get others to transcribe what I did so I can learn it to play live 🤣

Even though at this point I'll probably never be in a band, guitarists like Graham (another example would be Ed O'Brien) inspire me to keep playing and discovering my own sound. Trying to be Hendrix or Gilmour or Frusciante is a dead end for me, though I've expended many painful hours trying. When I come up with a riff or chord that feels like my own, that's when I can happily play for days.

Hey guys, great episode! on a totally unrelated matter... any chance you would do a Trainwreck Express inspired pedal episode? maybe get your hands on an actual Trainwreck amp and compare with pedals inspired by the Trainwreck. I recently bought a Vertex TDrive and I think it is a good OD pedal (not great, but good) but have no idea if it even comes close to a TW amp as I have never played one. Anywho, just a suggestion. I’ve got to ask as you sit atop the mountain, guru to the stars. I’m looking for something that approximates the pre-amp on those old echolette gold Ng51 German delay/tape machine. They sound great but the preamp is something special and everyone I’ve come across is in disrepair and/or expensive. Only two repairmen, one in Germany and one in Chicago are adept at getting them up to snuff. The preamp has a warmth and grit that is so smooth even in that sawtooth type of signature. Wondering if you had come across it or if you knew of any builders that had cloned this tube preamp? Check it out on you tube. The gold earlier version is the one that knocks you out. I believe it is the 51. Supposedly used by the Beatles back in the day. What a blast you had this day-Cheers !

Hi Mick ! Hi Dan ! I was wondering, will you ever post a show about QUALITY AND POWERFUL LIGHTWEIGHT PORTABLE GIG AMPS AND CABINETS ??? Something like a little informative show with amps such as Bluguitar (Jennifer Batten, etc), DV Mark (Frank Gambale, etc), Quilter (Dave Herrero, etc) ... and talk about the pros and cons of these pieces of equipment, like the fact that some of these amps can be mounted on the pedalboard together with the pedals placed in front of the amp and the ones inside the loop section of the amp, or the fact that some of these amps may not sound as "good" as their traditional heavy weight back breaking big brothers, etc, etc ... and without forgetting the lightweight speakers and the cabinets they're installed in. Best regards.

This is the perfect mix of a couple of guys who can perfectly/ nerdy articulate the way pedals affect the sound of a guitar through an amp; juxtaposition a guy that describes things in strictly poetic terms, and also a lot of fidgeting. Lots of fidgeting.
