Hi Dan! I came from the Strat world and discovered the Telecaster when I purchased a cheap Road worn from early 2000’s. This blew my mind. Few weeks ago I watched your videos on this subject and fell in love with this ‘01 CS relic ‘63 you have and its pure power. Today, after some search I entered a shop here in Paris and, after trying few of those early 00’s CS, I came the holy grail which, just like yours, is giving that same kind of huge power and sound: pure beast. It is a ‘05 CS light relic ‘63 Tele surf green matching color for the head. A beauty and a beast at the same time. Thanks again for making those helpful videos.

This show is directly responsible for my recent letting go of my dream Les Paul for a nitro wine red Tele and a 100 watt hand-wired valve head and 4x12. The Les Paul was the guitar I finally bought for myself that I would never, under any circumstances, sell or worse, trade. I'm very happy. my wife understanding and long-suffering. Thanks guys for being great enablers. My regret for not keeping the Lester is outweighed by my Tele-induced joy. My neighbours, and I live in a block of apartments, do not necessarily share my joy. 🤘🏻🎸

@ThatPedalShow8 жыл бұрын
+siriusbomb We use them all, but not really in a set way. More often than not the tones are up full, except maybe on the bridge pickups of both guitars where they get rolled back a bit, especially with light and medium gain tones. Dan uses every setting regularly, Mick is usually on the bridge or neck pickups, unless he's demonstrating the in-between sounds! They don't get used much. :0)
@siriusbomb8 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I usually set my tone knobs around 7-8 on both my strat and tele. Strat is usually neck+middle for rhythm, switching to middle or bridge for leads. Tele I use either pickup but never ever both together. Thanks for the response!

Unfortunately it's a legacy of Fender offering to relic new guitars (and charging a fortune for the privilege) - it's a real marmite issue, whereby, pound-for-pound a genuine beaten up guitar will always be worth more (figuratively and literally) than one that got fast-tracked to vintagehood :(
@elephantricity8 жыл бұрын
Michael Smith I agree, its just a sad state of affairs that relic'ing has become such that people with REAL road wear on guitar feel they must mention it there is real.

It's just a matter of how much finish is on your plank of wood, not really worth getting upset about. Some guitars (e.g. sunburst Strats) just look dull when they're pristine.

Hello Dan. I NEVER cease to be just floored by the sound of your Tele. And I also love how in your short snippets of free form playing that you do on the show, that YOU get into it so much that you just sort of "go away" somewhere sometimes while you are playing. A lot of the time really. I can actually see it when happens. In fact it's pretty obvious. That is a rare quality. I can barely do that anymore when I am playing free form in my own music room BY MYSELF! Forget the cameras, mics and annoying co-hosts. I guess that my dog can be sort of annoying. I do enjoy your playing immensely. It's real, it's not forced in any way and it is very soulful. I would like to ask you two simple questions about your Tele. These weren't mentioned in the clip. The saddles? Stainless steel? Does it have the original / stock wiring, or have you changed it? NOT that I am going to rush right out and copy whatever YOURS has Dan. I'm not. I am most interested in your saddles. And just curious about the guitar in general. It sound SO incredibly even and full up and down the neck, clean or gainy. Kind of blows my mind. After decades in, I left the music biz, left SoCal and moved back to my old hometown, which is a small and backwards Podunk town, that is devoid of any kind of remotely happening...anything. It's just devoid period. Hence, me getting to talk about gear with anyone (here) just doesn't happen. One of the many reasons I enjoy TPS, Tim Pierce and Shawn Tubbs, on YT. And I hate to admit, but I have mysteriously ended up with 1 or 2....ok 3 pedals that I had seen on TPS. Just a coincidence. Anyway, I have used brass saddles on my couple of Tele's forever (as long as they have been around) and have just been thinking about trying a stainless set. Thanks and keep up the great stuff Cheers
@ThatPedalShow7 жыл бұрын
+N2F1 Hello! Mick here. I hope Dan sees this so he can respond personally. Thank you in his behalf in the meantime. :0) The saddles are steel, but the whole bridge assembly is from an original 50s Tele I believe. It has an alder body and the wiring is original, except for a new neck pickup - Don Mare Super Sport. There's a video on that guitar in the Our Guitars & Gear playlist on the channel. It really is an astonishing guitar!
@lance1346798 жыл бұрын
Sweet Tele! I'm sure I would play it every weekend. I like that it's not a relic'd guitar, but the nicks and wear is from playing it and abuse over the years. My dream Tele would definitely be different - locking tuners, maple fingerboard, individual bridge saddles, noiseless pickups - the new Elite (not custom) Tele's are pretty well perfect for me, but I decided to buy a used Gretsch 6120 this year instead :-)

You really do seem to have a nice affinity for that Tele Dan! Nothing in our known universe compares to the bridge pickup on a Tele. For me, its that early Jimmy Page sound with the exquisite way only he could vibrato the low E and A strings. I should never have sold my early 70-'s one. I had a few chips in the enamel like you and decided to remove the entire finish one day because i thought it was looking a bit too shabby. So i sanded it down and clear laquered it...look gorgeous but for some reason never played and sounded the same. got depressed and sold it to a buddy for $200....he still has it and i think i want it back now... ;)
