Fun fact: If you take a stone of Barenziah in front of someone, they will turn hostile and you'll incur a bounty. So even though it says take, you are definitely stealing it.

I have no idea why I find it just so funny that you can take the clothes right off the NPCs. It's like, who goes out fully dressed, then doesn't even question it when suddenly they are bareass naked in the middle of town? XD I sooooo hope the next Elder Scrolls game has goofy ass mechanics like this too. Do Markarth next! I have a hunch that their stuff will be more!

So it's definitely largely embellished for fantasy purposes, but a master pickpocket against someone who is particularly unperceptive can use misdirection to remove worn items from their victims without them noticing. Think an overt thief who is constantly talking to and distracting their quarry instead of trying to remain unseen. The victim is expecting to be touched and so does not question it when they are. An example would be a street performer doing a hands on magic trick where they have to flip over the victims hand and they calmly remove and steal their watch while doing so. Most people don't notice because they've been instructed to focus on something else.

@@MistaOppritunity Right. I've seen people take neckties off men without them before aware before. Necklaces off women, wristwatches like you said, and of course things out of their pants pockets, and out of other pockets, like those inside suit jackets. It's kind of spooky really. Then when you travel somewhere new, be very wary of any time someone seems to accidentally bump into you. It might not be them lifting something from your pocket or bag, it could be another person that they work with. And then there are little roving groups of children who will mob you asking for food, money, candy, whatever, and be trying to run your pockets the whole time with those little hands. Then they just leave and scatter.

The reason you can just take half the stuff is because the merchant has a favorable view of you. Likely you sold them a bunch of stuff already. The more you do business with a merchant the more they just. let you take shit off their shelves for some reason.

It has to do with the disposition system. The more an NPC likes you (level 1,2,3 or 4), the higher value of item that you can take without it being stealing. As such, doing a simple task like selling firewood or a carrot to someone might make them like you enough for them to go "Yeah, go ahead and take any item in my house that is worth less than 50 gold; I see no issues with that!"

That thieves guild quest makes no sense to me. You poison a vat of mead and some how that mead got into that barrel the guard captain drank from and we know he never even left since he was staling for time

It's probably just a gameplay mechanic. Would you rather they make him leave the building and come back that way skyrim can pull a skyrim and glitch out? Lets be glad they kept it simple.

@@kamikirbits7708my take on it has always been that the skeever infestation got bad enough that with all the stuff wild animals drop everywhere it got contaminated that way and the poison was just unnecessary

Even friggin' faction quests send you through Whiterun. I once tried to play without going to Whiterun or at least not discovering it right away, but both the thieves guild and dark brotherhood require you to go there at some point

Also seeing Heimskr naked reminds me of my first playthrough, when I took over Whiterun with the Imperials, and instead of being imprisoned, Heimskr was just screaming at the shrine of Talos in prison rags.

Hmm, you didn't grab the Ebony Blade from Dragonsreach, but I'm conflicted If It is theft since Mephala gives you the sword after all, but you do need to pickpocket the key for the whispering door so I don't know

So I am trying this too.....and I using Lydia "as a backpack" really helps.....I just hate it when she says "I got your back" and then when I need to trade items while tresspassing, she sternly rebukes me with "you are NOT supposed to be here".....I am always mumbling "but I thought you had my back Lydia?"

Make a challenge: *The Hoarder challenge!* Rules: 1) Take EVERY item from dungeon / wilderness / city / etc. (even wooden plates, weapons, gems, armors, potions, bones, ...) 2) YOU CANNOT SELL 3) YOU CAN buy items, but YOU MUST STEAL GOLDS FROM MERCHANTS 4) YOU CANNOT USE SCROLLS, SPELL BOOKS 5) YOU MUST STEAL ITEMS FROM EVERY PERSON (guards, citizens, bandits, ...) 6) Carrying items can you drop on your containers (f.e. chests in your purchased houses) 7) Complete main game (or DLC) Don't try it! I DARE YOU! ;)
