I'm a brown belt, 10+ years of training and have had the privilege of watching plenty of DVDs and attending seminars from many coaches in Brazil, and some foreign ones. That being said, I have purchased 5 of John's DVDs and have attended two of his classes and I can say, without a doubt, he is the best, most articulate coach, with the best material and best teaching skills in the world, bar none.

I've had the privilege of doing a few privates with him (a buddy of mine brought me along as the training dummy) and can say there isn't a human being on the planet that has more BJJ knowledge or the ability to pass it along like John. I've been doing BJJ since 2003 and when I did my 1st private in 2016 he showed me how to do a RNC significantly more effective & that's one of the 1st moves you learn when you start.

I spent 2 years plus learning BJJ. This 'primer' is so good that it fixed many of my errors in my escapes and even gave me a game plan against all opponents. You sir are a wizard and your material is well worth the price. Think about it. Imagine you're in a self defense situation. This primer makes sure you end up at least in guard and attempting to take the opponents back. No "noise". No "nonsense" The first 2 years is really confusing as we are just groping with all the major things in jiu jitsu without delving into the details and cementing the nervous system reflexes to carry out the motions flawlessly. If I had your instructionals since the beginning I'm absolutely sure i would have reached blue belt in a year training just twice a week and spending a few hours a week drilling your techniques with a partner.

You always have to listen when greatness is talking. Very thorough but not too wordy nor over explanation on the subject. The "thumbs down" are probably from the ones always on the receiving end of those elbow escapes and "murder's rope" strangulations.

One of the best teachings I’ve seen. I’m a lifelong wrestler stepping into bjj at 30 and it’s a whole different world. I feel like wrestling is 2D and bjj is 3D. You need to be soo much more conscious of your legs and whole body as one unit.

Yes they go together wrestling is mostly on the feet really once you are taken down you are beaten to a point Bjj starts on the ground really you can't submit from standing so they really are not comparable. . . One of my friends would try to grapple me I wrestled and he did bjj for like a month and I would take him down and I would stop and he's like we just started and I'm like no I pinned you. .

I as a wrestler have been caught in countless leg locks. But trust me, the moment you get good at guard, you're going to give everybody trouble

Wow this guy is very technical and detailed. And this is a good example of why it takes 12 years of hard and consistent training to get your BJJ black belt. There are so many things to learn and become proficient (to the point of muscle memory) in the art. The fabulous news to a newbie, is that after even 1 year, you'll be able to defend yourself against an average guy when needed. Cross training in kickboxing/boxing/muythai is also advised for a full package for self defense. Better to first try stay OFF the ground if you can end the fight quickly with a knee or elbow or kick. Thanks, very nice coach, will subscribe
